Hey, I attend the meetings! I'm the Joe Mondello of the democratic party.

Yes. It's his house.
I hear the listing agent is none other than...drumroll, please...Frannie Adelson.
I don't think this is a move up for ole Mike, more like a move out...about one or two steps ahead of foreclosure. The sad part is that I don't even think it was his house originally. I guess the good old boy salesman routine convinced his spouse to put him on the deed. What a shame.
Well maybe he'll move to California. I'm sure his offers must be just overflowing out of state.LOL

How many police officers does long beach have? I cut and pasted from another board, but does anybody else think that maybe the police department appears a little top heavy? too many chiefs and not enough indians?
Answer this one

Why Would You Ever Want To Jepordize Safety And Well Being Of Long Beach Residents By Suggesting To Fire Three Police Officers Who Havent Even Hit The Street Yet!!!
First, you should reconsider your use of capital letters; you should also learn how to use spell check. Second, if your position is “why would you ever want to jeopardize safety and well being of Long Beach residents…” I suggest that you ask the 3 sitting City Council members who voted for the budget why they are reducing the amount of firefighters from 20 to 15 [page 173 http://www.longbeachny.org/vertical/Sites/{C3C1054A-3D3A-41B3-8896-814D00B86D2A}/uploads/{90835991-0336-4C46-A72D-9E55170E9C6A}.PDF]
Yes, that’s right folks; the City Council budgeted to terminate 5 firefighters on July 1st.
too many chiefs?

i don't think anybody wants to jeopardize safety and well-being of the citizens of long beach, but money has to be coming in to spend it. unfortunately cutbacks are needed at all levels of government given the current economy. now is not the time to be adding new positions - its a time to evaluate the current positions to determine if dollars are being wasted. based on the list of all the "indian chiefs" listed in the post above, it would appear that there are too many chiefs and not enough indians on the streets. but you gotta get rid of some chiefs to hire more indians.

I was at the hearing and I didn't hear Torres or Fagen mention any opposition to the FD budget. For that matter I didn't hear anything from the public orthe Fire Department members themselves. Shouldn't someone from the union have showed up? Obviously, they weren't too worried about it.

They also didn't offer any savings for the police department other than terminating 3 newly hired kids. No suggestions on the salaries you guys keep posting here.
Maybe we should pitch in and buy Fagen's house to get him out of here faster.

The reduction in firefighters was not reflected in the proposed budget; rather it was included on the errata sheet handed out that night. I’m sure the fire department had no idea about it until after the fact. In addition, when you allow someone only minutes to review a document often times things are missed.
Also, wasn’t it the City Council President who said that the City didn’t want to reduce services? Or did he mean that the City didn’t want to reduce services only in the police department?

Not true! Go on-line to the City's website. The cuts were in the original budget, the errata sheet only corrected a calculation error. There were not minutes to review the errata sheet. The fault lies with these guys (Fagen/Torres) not doing their own homework. They let their Dem cronies research and prepare their stuff. Just listen to Torres as he repeated refers to his BS grant "Project Beach". He spews mention of it ad nauseum. Fagen doesn't have a clue, he just says whatever comes to his mind without basis of fact. These guys should have done their homework as should have the fire representatives. They should have had access to the budget. It's the law, right? I could walk up to City Hall and get a copy. All I had to do was sign for it. Why couldn't they walk upstairs?
just a lil curious

if the budget was approved, it took at least 3 members to approve it. which three voted in favor? and wasn't it the city manager who presented the budget? sounds like a lot of people on here didnt care to do their homework in advance and review the budget but love complaining about it now.

Let's be clear. And this can be independently confirmed. The creature Theofan demands that opposition city council members use the freedom of information law to gain access to city business documents that they need to deliberate and make decisions. He does not do this with the republican hacks, only the dems.

If thats the case, then it sounds like theofan needs to go. the council was elected by the people and works for the people. theofan works for the council. is he too busy supporting his republican agenda then giving information to the ENTIRE city council who work for the citizens of longbeach, then let him go flip burgers instead.

You are wrong. Only the "adopted" budget is posted on the City's website, not the "proposed;" once the budget was adopted they updated the website. The firefighter cuts were not in the "proposed" budget rather they were on the errata sheet which becomes part of the "adopted" budget if approved by the City Council.
And therefore your argument that Fagen and Torres are at fault because "having a copy of the budget is the law" makes no sense. We all had a copy of the proposed budget, but again these changes weren't noted in that budget. Then on the night of the vote an "errata sheet" was presented (which is common practice) which reflected the reduction in firefighters. It is not the law that the errata sheet be made public for a certain amount of time befoe the vote; however, one would think that Theofan would have given it to Fagen and Torres in advance so they had ample time to review it; however he didnt do that.
Not Wrong again

The cuts were in both the proposed and the adopted budget. Check your lines. Oh yeah, you were probably one of the "experts" that didn't go up to City Hall and get the proposed budget. It was line #51101 under Fire Protection A3410. The requested amount was for $2,955,410 for Regular salaries The Recommended was $2,545, 466. This equals the amount for 5 firefighters salaries. The cut was actually more due to the calculation in the errata sheet which you should have picked up at the Council meeting. Again, do your homework! This was in the "Proposed" budget available to the members of the public not too lazy to go pick it up. You sound like your buddy, Fagen, just making things up as you go along.

You are correct, there was a difference of around 400,000 in the line for Fire Protection BUT...... under staffing there was no change in the amount of manpower in the proposed budget. Where were they going to get the 400,000 savings for the dept??? Who knows, but it clearly stated in the proposed budget available for public viewing that staffing and salaries were going to remain the same. Actually the recommended budget had a slight increase in the staffing/salary line probably for a % increase owed as per the contract. Kind of sounds like the old bait and switch technique salesmen have used against the public, trying to trick and deceive them just so they can get them into the stores. While we are looking at the budget, I see all the Dept heads got raises. Not as much as requested or even recommended in the proposed budget but still raises never the less. You don't take raises while making cuts to Public Safety!! They also added positions to other Dept's, once again not an act one does when making cuts to Public Safety. Now lets look at the City Manager letter to the council in the beginning of the budget "This budget maintains the present level of services with historically the lowest increase percent increase in expenditures
ever between two fiscal years, 1.12%. It reflects the present day realities of reduced revenues, uncertain State aid, and
the universally unpopular MTA tax." He states right in the message "maintains the present level of services"..........UMMMM Enough said!

Any way you slice it Long Beach government has no integrity. Information to make decisions to benefit the citizenry is not shared openly and in a timely manner. There is no intelligent debate, only partisan politics. Civil service, zoning board, police, school district, housing authority...you name it. And look at the half-wit that serves as city manager. Long Beach is one collasal empty suit.

You think it was any better under the dems and Eaton, aka Albergini? Yeah, so what if they decide everything behind the scenes in private meetings and give patronage payback to friends and cousins. That's the game pollyanna. To the victor go the spoils. Where you been living, under a rock? You don't like it? Leave and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Why don't you move to Suffolk County, aka, Klanville, Mississippi. Think its any better there? Or what about Newburg, in upstate NY. That's worse than anyplace around here. Just shut up already.
