helicopter noise

Who was the politician that had all the helicopter traffic diverted to fly over the LI Sound?
The noise is unbearable! A lot of residents/voters are awful mad.

Neither do helicopters. Do you whine about your neighbor's kids laughing in their pool too?

On the 11th of August 1986, G-LYNX took to the air piloted by John Egginton he set the speed record at approximately 249 mph, or 401 km/h. After this G-LYNX was relegated to be used for development and testing of LHTEC CTS800 engines, before finally retiring to the Westland Helicopter Museum, along side the first prototype Lynx.
Chances of you having one of these buzzing those dog house windows in your levit are slim and none. Slim just left.

Silence after my sarcastic but honest rhetoric? Too busy shaking martinis on the fly-bridge of your 40 footer?
apathy

Just sitting back laughing at your apathetic and dim-witted comments. These renegade commuter helicopter companies , who have had our politicians and FAA dancing on strings, may be rattling my house now, but all social cancers spread. Trust me, they'll be buzzing your communities soon when all regulations are dropped. But no one ever accused Long Islanders of being forward-thinking or proactive. The noise is so bad over so many communities, a LI hotline was established to track the countless complaints. But I guess when your head is buried in the sand, the noise is muffled. Just another reason not to be able to sell your house on LI.

Another North Shore person complaining about what happens everyday over the south shore. Every major airport routes it's final approach over the south shore coast. We complain but nothing is ever done, I feel your frustration but you are just learning what we have been dealing with for years. Just wait as Farmingdale's Republic Airport gets busier (which is part of the grand plan). It is already all day, every day with private jets at low altitudes.

jets flying over the south shore is the flight plan. helicopters are supposed to 1/4-1/2 mile out in the sound. they are breaking the law.
awwww.

The affluent and the influential have spoken. Your thoughts on the matter have been noted and they just don't matter. Too bad. Come back when you want to talk about a REAL issue that's effecting the quality of life on this island. There are plenty to choose from.

it must be sad to be you! get a better job and move to the north shore.
also, what was on the south shore 1st, kennedy airport or the 10 billion houses?
bottom line, it's not the helicopter flight patterns that's the issue. they are flying illegally (and dangerously) low, and over land, not the sound.

Sorry to shock you neighbor, but I DO live on the north shore. Doesn't make me any better or worse than anyone else, but I stand by my opinion that helo noise is the least of the quality of life issues that need addressing. YOU need to get a grip on reality.

I agree. Go inside. Turn up the cable and AC and cope. Geesh.
now we know

you are right!!! i cant believe the noise from the helicopters so far this summer. we cant sit outside on the weekends it's very distracting.
it was schumer who changed the pattern for the copters to fly over the north shore.
.....United States Senator Charles E. Schumer, joined by local residents and officials, announced today that first-ever mandatory regulations will be issued on Monday that will set minimum altitudes and establish mandatory flight patterns for helicopters on Long Island that have long disrupted the quality of life of residents. The proposed regulations are the result of years of work by Schumer, dating back to 2004, waging a relentless campaign at all levels of government, to rein in rogue helicopters flying at exceptionally low altitudes, creating deafening noise in local communities. The notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM), to be issued on Monday, will be followed by a thirty day public comment period....
THE REGULATIONS WERE SCOFFED AT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ENFORCED.

The solution proposed by the North shore people was to put it on the South shore. That is not a solution, it is just a bunch of people citing their typical NIMBY. Come on now let's come up with a better solution than screwing offer our neighbors to the south.

I think people should put this in perspective. Would you rather be listening to medi-vac and Apache helicopters in Afghanistan? I'm sure the people there wouldn't mind the helicopter noise on L.I.

the bottom line is this: north or south shore they are supposed to be 1/4-1/2 mile out over the water and they're not. why?
dangerous copters
06-29-2010, 08:17 PM
Are the residents of Afghanistan paying $15k in property taxes??
The heli's are supposed to be flying 1500-2000 feet above the water (LI Sound). They are flying at times less than 500 feet above land. No one said anything about moving the patterns over to the south shore. We're not talking about emergency PD or medivac choppers. We're talking about "commuter" helicopters that disregard FAA regulations.
Just enforce the regulations! The low flying commuter copters are dangerous and making Nassau less desirable.

The airplanes are just as loud. I'm right near the flight path heading to Kennedy - the planes sound like thunder. Sometime I look out the window to make sure there isn't a storm brewing. You're not the only ones. Floral Park, Franklyn Square - that whole area suffers with the noise of jet planes - they fly low, they fly fast & they are loud.

Not looking to argue with you but the proposed solution is to route all south fork traffic over the south shore and the north fork traffic over the north shore. The reality although both areas are great during the summer, the elite go out to the south shore to mingle on the east end. This would re-route the lions share of air traffic to the south shore, passing the burden over to the other side of the island. Look into the political requests and proposals sent to the politicians and FAA.
