Tier Hack

Just read in Newsday that the state is going to help with the new jail. About time we get some good news.

04-05-2005, 03:41 AM
What good news? Tisch and the County now want to spend at least $185 million. So by the time they are done it will be $250 million. Spending hundreds of millions of dollars is not good news at all. Anyone remember the Southwest Sewer District overruns or the Ducks Stadium? Both came in at over double the original budget.

From you username I deduct that you are a jail employee. Do you care about taxes and government spending at all? All of our taxes will go through the roof.

I will not vote for any official who supports this pork barrel project.

Well it's obvious you live in an area such as Wyandanch or North Amityville and don't mind criminals living in your area. For me, spend what you must but keep the trash locked up where it belongs!!!!!!

Well yes I work in the jail, I also pay the same taxes you do. I am looking foward to be able to go to work and sit in new chairs, not use second hand computers and desks, not have water pour down the walls and on my desk when it rains paint peeling off the ceiling, the floor coming apart in big chunks and lights that dont work. Would you except these kind of things where you work? Riverhead and Yaphank are in real bad shape and its time to do something about it

I am sorry you have to sit in a chair and use a second hand computer while you get $100K a year.
So because you choose to work in the jail the taxpayers should have to spend $300 million to build you a new jail? Here is a thougth for you: If you are not happy with your working conditions give up your oh so hard job and go to work in the real world.
I spent 6 years as a corpsman assigned to a Marine unit. I know what tough is, you have it easy. Stop thinking of yourself and start thinking about the other 1.4 million people in Suffolk.

Okay lets have alternatives to incarceration like the ex inmaye Maurice Mitchell wants and we can release inmates like Lavalle and McCoy so they can continue to rape and murder the citizens of Suffolk County. Or maybe we can parole inmates to Bishops backyard cause that seems to be what he wants. Wake up people its not a drunk tank out there. I am an employee and to be honest most C/O's could give a crap if this jail is buitl. Don't come crying to the county or state when some asshole who we let on alternative incarceration commits some heinous crime. Blame yourselves or the ex con Maurice Mitchell he knows so much.

100K a year? I don't think so. Most of us spend sixteen hours a day in there two days a week just to break even in this county. I chose this job, so I'm not crying, but hearing from ignorant people like yourselves is somewhat irritating.
That other guy is right. The buildings are falling apart and are woefully outdated. Those advocates can carp all they want but the truth is that those inmates they care so much about are forced to live in filthy conditions due to this county's foot-dragging.
I pay these outrageous taxes, too, but lets place the blame where it belongs. Political corruption, binding arbitration, and short-sighted fiscal policies have killed us.
Btw 'Corpsman', I know about hard work, so please save your self-promoting flattery to those that may care. Until you've done the work of another man, keep your opinions to yourself, or did you not learn that when you were active?

I could care less if they build a new jail, i come to work and try to go home in 8 hours, i make about 70K when all is said and done unless they force me work. As far as all these let them go programs, im glad i carry a gun off duty.

Stop crying, consider yourselfs lucky to have such a well paying job. After all any job a 0331 can get is a miracle in and of itself.

Until now I would never say anything bad about navy corpsman, The corpsman I worked with and trusted my life to would back me up to the gates of hell. Unless your on my job doc you don’t have a clue, I guess you believe everything you "hear in your shops" What’s sad is you probably spew this I was a FMF corpsman crap where ever you go, brag about being as tough as marines and then shit on them. Funny thing, I don’t disagree with you, like I said I don’t care if they build a jail, I would like a cost of living increase in salary. But you have to be a jackass, the only Marine you ever saw was probably the one that stole your girlfriend.

Obvious;y you know NOTHING of what you are talking. Before you make any rude and untrue comments about correction officers pay or job functions please do yourself and all c/o's a favor. make sure you know the truth before you speak. Youonly make yourself look like an ass. remember you can be an ass all your life, but if you keep your stupid mouth shut no one will ever know.

This new jail is never going to happen. I am not saying it is not needed but it won't happen because it is too much of a political football it will just be tossed around.

While they are tossing it around taxpayers in this County will spend money to house inmates in Orange County and other places. Eventually the money spent will equal what it would have cost to build a jail.
