View Full Version : Let's take back North Hempstead
Who's going up against Kaiman, Troiano and D'Urso?
To answer this question, you must also ask why voters did not embrace the campaign run by Frank Moroney? Are TONH residents simply not interested in the level of taxes they pay or the reduced services they now receive? More imprtantly, why is it exactly that they won't elect a republican?

Good question. But Maroney was a hack with a lot of baggage and not a lot of presence. Jimmy O'Connor is well liked by both sides, won a town-wide race, and could've given Kaiman a much closer run if not beaten him. Does the NH GOP have any more like O'Connor?
Also, for the GOP to win the supervisor seat, Balboni has to convince Great Neck to vote for another Republican other than himself.

Maybe the way to win back town hall is to find a Democratto run on the Republican line, it worked very well for us with Legislator Ford, and it worked well for the dems with Carolyn McCarthy.
Doreen Banlks comes to mind, Suozzi and Jay have treated her disgracefully. Has anybody approached her?
"Also, for the GOP to win the supervisor seat, Balboni has to convince Great Neck to vote for another Republican other than himself"
Very true: Great Neck is the key. Who is able to get behind Balboni to push for a Republican Supervisor?

What incentive would Mike have to put his own political capital on the line in Great Neck, where he has spent years trying to cut his losses? He has made great efforts to play nice with Newburger and Kaiman, to the point where Kaiman puts him on the Town's Public Access interview show. He has contributed state funds (and taken his share of the credit) for most of the Town's initiatives since he was elected to the State Senate. He couldn't possibly stand up and criticize the porjects he helped fund. And if he has statewide aspirations, having Democratic friends is a must in his home base.

here's what i wrote about balboni and martins. they are in cahoots to keep kaiman and knock off cavalaro as gop leader . . .
"rumor has it that old jackie martins and mikey balboni have conspired to knock off petie cavalaro as leader. Mikey has met with kaiman and martins has spoken to kaiman and both have told the him that they won't help the gop this year. Why? to knock off petie of course!!!

Either Nicollelo, Moroney or the Mayor from .
That is it. Case closed. Just waiting on decision.
Capozzi, the mayor of , is not taking on Kaiman or anyone else. Nicolello does not want to be Supervisor (not like he would win), he can't afford the pay cut from lawyer and Legislator. Moroney, it's rumored, may run against Troiano in the first district.
Whoever is making this decision better go back to the drawing board.
The North Hempstead GOP is dead in the water. Except for areas with truly large Republican majorities like the small southern tier villages, the North Hempstead GOP has no influence and no bench strength. While they are opposed by Dems in their own territories, they don't have the wherewithal to contest the Dems in Democratic territory.
The names thrown around, O'Connell (both), Nicollelo, Galluscio, Moroney, Capozzi, Balboni, are either safe in their seats or perrenial wannabees. And Balboni's seat is only safe as long as he sits in it. When he retires, that seat'll go to the Dems. And the leadership has its collective head in the sand!
What ever happened to the party of McGrath, Tully and Kiernan?
What was the secret behind the success of Tully, McGrath and Kiernan? How did those republicans win, and why can't others replicate it now?
What caused their defeat?
Tully died, McGrath (gym teacher) retired so he could pocket his campaign treasury and became a lobbyist for the beer industry and Kiernan got torpedoed by perceived arrogance and GOP insiders who hated him.
The divisions within the NH GOP have always been there. Kiernan and Tully hated each other and their minions took great delight in stabbing each other in the back, but they kept most of that in private, because they knew there was something to lose (patronage) in having their feuds spill over in public.
Today, in contrast, the NH GOP has nothing to offer to maintain party discipline and loyalty, so you get the not-so-secret efforts of some to overthrow the current leadership. And so it goes...

True, the NH GOP has nothing and is going nowhere. What makes the disgruntled think they can offer more or do a better job than the current "leadership"? Where's Jim O'Connor?
What made those men electable?
Why does it seem that the Great Neck Jews only vote for a democrat?
Jim O'Connor moved to Suffolk. He was burned once too often by Mondello. He was the GOP's best hope in NH and the county.
Would great neck vote for him in sufficient numbers?

Last Night's fundraiser was a huge sucess. Greg P. was there along with 100 regular (non-political) people. This might be the year that the NH GOP makes a comeback. People seem to be tired of the Democrats promising everything yet delivering nothing.
The great neck jews won't vote for a republican. Why?

I thought the Assembly Lady was running for County Clerk! She would be a good candidate for Supe. Why don't they want maroney?
O'Connell came really close to unseating Newburger. She would give the K-man a run for his money.
But why would Mo give up such a cushy seat? The Dems leave her alone because the seat is unwinnable by them. As Supe, she'd become a target and have to work hard for the seat every time.
Maroney lost big last time. Running him again is like a gift to the Dems. Please make another selection.

Although you are correct on some points there is one that I must correct. I know for a fact that Kiernan and Tully did not hate each other. Mike and John had their disagreements and they each had their respective people in each others area of control (Guarino and Angelo Mangia in Town Hall and members of the Senate GOP leadership back in '82 who thought Kiernan deserved the seat Tully was elected to.) Neither one actually went against the other. They both realized that what was done was done and that it wasn't going to change.
However you are right about the back stabbing although no one really went against Mike, certain people who supported Tully had a lot of animosity towards John Kiernan because he wasn't afraid to tell them to ship up or ship out.

No bench strength: You call Jim McCue, Javier Vargas and Mitchell Winn major leaguers? There are no strong NH GOP candidates this year or last cycle or the cycle before that.

No hope: See above.
Many of the very recent judicial candidates for district court, etc., have been excellent; they just can't get a shot. That's not their fault.

We need to spend money where it will make the most good, Harrington while she is a competent, and capable talent she will most likely lose in November. The NHGop should try to spend what money they do have on races that could win Like Angelo Ferrara, and Frank Moroney. Having two members on the town council is a start. The only way the GOP can be become a force to reckon with is for themelves to win elections. The best way to make this into realities is for the GOP to go after council district races that do not include Great Neck (all four of them). Furthermore, if we run candidates that can win in their council disticts. The Republicans can take a majority of the town board without winning the Supervior's seat. This in the short term seems like the best plan of attack.
Wow. Finally a coherent reply! I totally agree that electing district members and not the supe is the best strategy.

Balboni doesn't win in Great Neck. He gets 45%. He considers that a win because of the overwhelming regsitration. Do you people actually know anything? I mean, what you are saying is that it is your strategy to target the most solid dem seat on the council. To put all of your resources into the most unwinnable seat. As for the NHGOP (if one even still exists), it needs a top to bottom rebuild. This embarassing stuff has to stop. Maybe John Kiernan, as the resident professional, and Maureen O'Connell, Rich Nicolello and Angelo Ferrara, as the elected officials from the Town, need to get together and come up with some gameplan to salvage what's left. Cavallaro can't do it, especially by himself. He's a second tier guy at best. Can't be the #1. Just doesn't have it.
If those 4 won't take control, sadly, no one ever will and its done. It is up to them. They are the only ones who have a stake in what happens in the future.

We're done. Keirnan is AWOL, Ferrara is in cahoots with the Dems, Nicollelo still hasn't woken up ten years later and O'Connell, nice as she is, doesn't have the leadership chops. I'd call on Balboni, but he has his sights set elsewhere and only offers hacks and wannabes as candidate fodder.

What's a NH Rep to do? Be happy that his Town is doing well financially; that its supervisor is energetic and willing to try new ideas; that he has a good working relationship with local Reps, including Ferrara, Balboni and King; that Town Hall is more accessible and responsive than ever - even under May's terms; in short - the GOPS have no candidates to run for supe because there are no major issues. Zwirn won because of the GOP mismanagement and the incinerator issue.

The TONH is THE MOST indebted town not only in the whole state of NY but in the entire United States of America. It spends more than it collects in taxes almost 3:1. It's failed and corrupt mismanagement caused it to suffer a $60 million dollars court judgment that every town resident must now pay. The streets are filthy and never get swept anymore, the roads are falling apart and town services are nonexistent.
The reason there are no GOP's on the Board is due to the Jews in Great Neck. Simple. Don't deny it--be proud if it. Celebrate it, and their failures until you choke.
