cops gone wild

why is it comments have been deactivated on the story about the cop running over a citizen on the beach? is it b/c newsday supports a police state in which cops must patrol a crime free area like the beach? seems that way to me-what could the reason be?
the creeping police state is the biggest threat to our liberty as citizens-and as the story proves, its whether your guilty or not. these type of accidents happen all to frequently in the name of safety.

Emergency vehicles have the right-of-way and are immune from the traffic law. It's called tough luck for that dude spitting out his teeth. Ha, ha.

Are you kidding me? This cant be a real point of view.
Newsday supports a police state? And beaches are crime free?
How about a tragic accident or maybe the dumb cop was on his cell phone like all the rest of you idiots on the road.

I'm pretty sure if I ran over a cop in my SUV I'd be in pretty serious trouble.

Nice try, Wiseguy. But this act of police recklessness took place on a public beach, not a public highway. Traffic laws do not apply.
If I was this cop I would be at the injured person's hospital bedside profusely apologizing for my major screw-up.
Then again, I'm not a police officer. I'm just a decent person.

How do you know he's not there apologizing right now, and it was and accident not a screw up. Cop responding to a person drowning, believe it or not it's hard to see a tan colored guy laying in tan colored sand.

Traffic laws don't apply to police due to the immunity in laws. There was contributory negligence on the part of the sunbather who laid in the beach-traffic lane.
If you're such a chithouse lawyer, call Freddy Brewington. Tell him he was a good shoe shine in college.

The sunbather was cited for blocking a fire lane, which essentially clears the police officer of any negligence.
