What do you think of Judy Jacobs?

Everyone around here LOVES Judy and thinks that she is hard-working, selfless public servant.

Is that true?

No she is not married nor is she related to Jay "the jack-ass" Jacob's, Judy Jacob's is a widow who's husband passed away in 2002.

Judy Jacobs started out as a genuine independent, activist voice for her community. She did a lot of good work in the so called
NIMBY field. From her perspective she represented the people. As the Legislative Minority Leader, she represented a voice that was often ignored by the all powerful political establishment.

You still sometimes see a glimpse what made Judy Jacobs great. SHe does charitable work. Helps out children who are sick. There is a part of her that is very human, and wonderful, and does the right thing.

But something happened. She became Presiding Officer and Majority Leader. In this role, she seems to have lost touch with her roots as a community activist and is now a power broker. Even worse, she appears almost to be a toady of Tom Suozzi, ironically to her own political detriment. Maybe Judy is too old to lead now, and is letting this young man step all over her.

As perhaps the area's most important Democratic local elected figure, Jacobs has overseen the fall of any political organization by the Democrats in Oyster Bay fall to ruins. She has turned her back on people like Sidikman, Langberg, and Holland who were the backbones of that organization. She even permitted her district to be carved up for the benefit of Dave Mejias, a leader who himself has his eyes on the Presiding Officer job.

Tom Suozzi despises the local political type. He looks down on them has "hacks." Tom has the better education and his family had the better connections. Tom is even more dangerous to Judy Jacobs now because, as a Fortysomething suburban County Executive, he has become a "mere local politican as well." Anticipate a more tense relationship between Jacobs and Suozzi as Mr. Suozzi's statewide prospects in 2006 grow increasingly dim.
Hopefully, Ms. Jacobs is smart enough to understand this.

Ms. Jacobs, it is not too late to come to the aid of the local Democrats, like you did when you backed Di Napoli in 2001.

As a former Co. employee and a Rep. I had many dealingswith Judy. She always acted like a real lady and even though she knew I was a member of the oposition, she treated me with respect, which is more than I can say about other members of the Leg. including my own party.

I have or should I say had alot of respect for Judy.

She always did the right thing, but lately it seems the she is stepping behind The County Executive. Passing what ever he wants. Judy needs to remember that as Presiding Officer she has an obligation to all the residents of the county ( not just her district) to maintain their quality of like that they have worked so hard to get in their home towns. Which means not allowing the County Executive to advance his own political agenda at the cost of individual local towns.

When we all bought our homes we searched for the right town we wanted to live in. Some of us paid more to be in thath town. Now tom wants to change Nassau County into Queens and She is allowing this.

Kevin Langberg and Dennis Holland were subjected to so much abuse they were forced to quit. Marsha Shulroff and Pat Conligio were two of the only BOE employees to not recieve merrit raises last year, and they are also subject to various abuse by their bosses.

So what did Judy do when commissioners appointment ran out. She made a backroom deal to reappointment him during an emergency action of the legislature to prevent any public notice to aviod certain oppsition.

If she is not the biggest sellout in the party to date I don't know who is.

Remember this about Judy Jacobs: she could have fought the judge's decision about reassessment. She could have appealed. How many major or even minor cases aren't appealed 100 times? She could have fought to have reassessment phased in. She didn't. She laid down. That's not leadership. That's not looking out for your interests. If you feel like rewarding that with your vote, go ahead. I'm not.

She holds that crazy democratic conference together by being 100% trustworthy to her members. Many legislators support Judy because of this and it drives Suozzi crazy. Looks like if Judy Jacob's crosses T. Suozzi or J. Jacob's, her son in-law will be joining the ranks of the un-employed. Talk about politics at it lowest, it could only happen in Nassau County.
