Will Levy let the county participate in the retirement incentive if it passes in Albany?

Politically it would be in his best interest. Or he could be the thick headed difficult shit stirring person he is used to being and not participate. And have no valid reason why.

I think he will because of the effort by Albany to work something out. But he will not let every department participate. Brain Drain. He will select those departments who will not lose the knowledge base should the lifers want to retire.

The Suffolk Probation OFFICERS have a 25 year pension. There are PO's of various ranks who have over 40 years with the county. Rather than retire these greedy loafers are hanging around waiting for the county to give them an incentive. They already have 15 years over their retirement, and most are over 60. Is something wrong with this picture? Why should the county give an incentive to people who should have already been gone by now? That’s wrong. This is how service employees get a bad name.

Just in case you don't know. Steve can EXCLUDE any department he wants and that includes the PO's.

Why wouldn't Levy offer this incentive to all departments? Not only would the county save money on higher salary employees, but also save in areas where he could eliminate some of those positions that are somewhat obsolete. Just think, if a grade 21 step 12 at $70 a year is replaced by a tier 5 step 1 at $40 a year that is a $30 savings who also has to contribute for the next 30yrs into to the system. There is no reason to not offer the incentive to every department including those in the 25 year retirement plan. It's a no brainer and also would hold the line on any potential layoffs. I believe Mr. Levy can see the wisdom in this incentive as a way to save the county taxpayer.
