Here's a little bed time story for all: A violent felon is arrested in April 2004. He has an active warrant for parole violation (Robbery 1st) THe warrant is executed, and additional charges of DWI(drugs), CPCS 7th, Loitering 1st, Trespass, 511, 512. He is returned to prison to finish his 9 months in jail. He gets NOT 1 day for the additional crimes listed above, stemming from his arrest in April 2004. He's out for 2 weeks. He's involved in a pursuit which results in 18 counts, including andother DWI (drugs). Can anyone tell me why this guy got to walk on ALL of the rorginal charges from last April? If he would have served any County time on those, the whole pursuit would have been impossible. Nice system we have

You think someone should "do time" for a measely DWI and whatever those other charges are? I should sue you for even posting a libilous statement against him. Innocent until proven guilty! PIG!

This brings us to a good topic...the "new" suffolk county jail.
We have politicians (notably Binder and Levy) claiming that they can reduce the cost of the jail by using "alternatives" to incarceration. Does anyone realize thes alternatives are things like early release, house arrest, probation (where imprisonment would have been the norm), and ACOD's?
When was the last time a politician ran on being soft on crime? I know the jail amounts were staggering, but give me a break. Cant we make a tent-city like that sheriff in New Mexico did, and find a way to keep the criminals behind bars?

I agree with "lawandorder". There is no deterrent because of probation and parole. Do the crime, do the time. Plain and simple. Look at that creep in Florida who killed the 9 year old girl. How many times has this happened where wastes of life commit horrible crimes only to get out early under the BS guise of being "rehabilitated". Abolish parole and probation for ALL sex crimes as well as violent crimes. Where's the outrage from ALL elected officials. I highly doubt probation/parole officers would lose their jobs if mandatory incarceration for sex and violent crimes were abolished. In fact, they would be able to do their jobs much more efficiently with a lower caseload. I , for one, would not complain if my taxes went up for the cost of longer incarceration time.

I could not agree more. Leave these guys in jail for the full term.. and sentence them to a worth while period of incarceration. Let probation adn parole handle the offenders who do not commit violent and serious crimes. My whole point w to this thread was the BS that the prosecutors pull off regarding concurrent sentences. Think about it. You are locked up for Robbery 1st. You incurr 5 other charges from the time you make bail to the time you are sentenced for the original charge. Its like you are automatically forgiven for everything else... A free ticket to commit other crimes, because you'll serve your time concurrently. ADA gets off easy, society bears the thought of aonther menace on back on the street. Defense attorney plays golf. --> and we start all over again.
