How big is the scandal and who is involved. Can the democrats be in trouble? If an audit caught this person will it be released to the public? Why won't Newsday report the truth about Glen Cove and the dire troubles the City is in?

If there was an audit and the republicans have it, bye bye maryanne.
Surprise Glen Cove
03-18-2005, 01:46 AM
The person who allegedly stole the money from city hall is being represented by Marc Gann, Marc Gann is a partner in the Law Firm of Collins, Gann and McDonald. McDonald is the Vice chair of the Nassau Democratic Party. Where there is smoke there is fire.
The Royal Suozzi Clan

Forget Maryanne. If this is true how can it be that it won't touch Suozzi? The whole Suozzi clan ran Glen Cove for-ever and this didn't just develop over the last 3 years. It's a pattern. And Tom Rathergate Suozzi won't be able to use the Dummy Defense anymore because - just ask Ebbers whose looking at 85 years in prison - it just doesn't work anymore!
Its Ok

Is the US Attorney investigating the Glen Cove City Hall scandal.
What I heard is this
03-19-2005, 07:40 PM
I heard the feds did start to investigate and that's when, right after that, Suozzi put Timothy Driscoll (he was an Assistant US Atty General) on his payroll as Chief Deputy County Executive or something like that. Draw your own conclusions.
another scandal

Who is the person who allegedly stole all this money from Glen Cove City Hall?
This has got to be the umpteenth brewing "scandal" I've heard about on this board about to bring Suozzi down.
Peter Sylver was the only one where there was any fire at all to go with the smoke, and that one was contained pretty much to Peter Sylver and is now old news. Schmitt pretty much botched whatever political capital that one might have held for his party.
I remember hearing on this board a year ago that Dave Mejias was about to be indicted. Never happened.
The Toback "scandal" with that motel in Oceanside...the Denenberg "scandal"....a dozen different "scandals" in the County Attorney's office (Lorna seems to be a particularly popular target on this board)...the "scandal" of all the NYC residents illegally holding Nassau County jobs...
Still waiting for one to actually materialize beyond this message baord.

This last posting shows how arrogant and pathetic this person is. Tom owns the media, do you think if Deriggi had this scandal it would only be in newsday for one day. The person who made this last posting demonstrates how dangerous democrats are when they are in power. The scandals mentioned are true but they are a bout democrats so newsday and channel 12 and dillon see no foul. Wake up it is time for a change. Lets hope the long Island Press can get off the ground and become a daily so we can have some opposing view points and rally air all of the scandals that the democrats are involved in.
Here's Your Scandal

Liz Prentiss and her alleged theft of $42,000 in taxpayer money is just the latest chapter in the scandals of the allies of Suozzi. The funny irony is, that once again, the thief lives outside the city limits where she works, much like the worst Suozzi hacks live in NYC, Suffolk, and other places outside Nassau. Something to think about. Just how bad are Suozzi, his people, and his allies? How many people are stealing or maybe even taking bribes? Just how dirty is the Suozzi Administration? Remember, Frau Holzkamp is a mere proxy of Tom Suozzi.
Former clerk accused of $42K theft

A clerk who worked in the Glen Cove Finance Department was arrested Thursday for channeling into her personal account $42,000 in fees that were paid to the city by taxpayers, Nassau District Attorney Denis Dillon said Thursday.
Lizabeth Prentiss, 45, of East Norwich, was charged Thursday with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony punishable by up to 7 years in prison. She was arraigned and then released without bail at the First District Court in Hempstead.
The fees were paid by taxpayers for sewers, water, recreation and police-impound costs, said Colin O'Donnell, assistant district attorney in the special investigations bureau.
Prentiss, who was a Finance Department clerk from 2002 until last October, became the subject of an investigation when the cash balances of city funds didn't add up, O'Donnell said.
Prentiss' attorney, Marc Gann of Carle Place, said Prentiss "has no prior involvement with the law -- and it will work out favorably for her."
The loss comes at a time when some county officials describe Glen Cove's financial condition as "shaky." Six months ago, Moody's Investor Service downgraded the city's general obligation bonds by two notches, to Baa2, or slightly above junk status.
Thursday, Glen Cove Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp said the city's financial condition is solid and she expects the recent downgrades to be reversed when developers begin investing in the city's waterfront development.
Holzkamp said the $42,000 loss will not have a major impact on the city's financial condition. And O'Donnell added that, "there are no other requests or indications that it is more widespread."
Holzkamp said Prentiss admitted she was doing things that were not right after the investigation had begun.
Prentiss submitted her resignation at that time, Holzkamp said.

"The scandals mentioned are true but they are a bout democrats so newsday and channel 12 and dillon see no foul."
So now Denis Dillon, the conservative Republican DA who left the Democratic Party over the abortion issue, is a Democratic Party hack? You people are delusional, aren't you?
Yes, its true Dillon is substantially more independent of Mondello and the GOP organization than most GOP elected officials. It's true he has both Democrats and Republicans working in his office, and called Peter Schmitt out when he told a bold-faced lie that made his own office look bad.
So to you guys, anyone who's not a Republican Party hack is a Democratic Party hack whose sole purpose is to advance the electoral prospects of the Democratic Party.
(And the fact that Dillon just charged Ms. Prentiss, who worked under the Democratic Glen Cove administration, kind of contradicts your theory)
The Suozzi-haters on this board are obsessed with this guy, to the point of wild conspiracy theories. Like the right-wing Clinton-haters of the 90s. When facts don't go your way, you make up other ones that do.
To you, Suozzi is this almighty emperor who rules the world and controls everyone. Anyone who says or does anything that directly or indirectly makes Suozzi look good is in his pocket.
You've convinced yourselves that everyone who works for Suozzi is a criminal, so the fact that Dillon hasn't indicted them means Dillon's in his pocket (forget that whole bit about needing enough evidence to prove the indictment in a court of law).
Nassau's bond rating gets upgraded, and you come up with some twisted plot explaining how the bond-rating agencies are in Suozzi's pocket.
Any newspaper that doesn't run with your conspiracy theories, or runs an editorial supportive of something Suozzi is doing is in Suozzi's pocket.
What happened in Glen Cove is one person was caught stealing $42K. That's the crime Dillon's office has solid evidence of, so that's the crime that they charged. No evidence of any connection to Suozzi, or even Holzkamp...zero, zilch. But I won't convince you, since you're already convinced that Suozzi is some sort of cult leader who exercises mind control over anyone working for any Democrat anywhere in Nassau County, and that they can't flush a toilet without being ordered to by him. There must be other evidence of Suozzi's involvement that's being covered up, you know that because he's Suozzi. To you guys, anything that goes on in Nassau County must involve some corrupt conspiracy by Suozzi.
politics of reality

Let's keep our scandals in perspective. Some "scandals" merely involve questions of judgment and competency. For example, the account reported in the NYLJ of Ms. Goodman's Affirmative Litigation Bureau in NYC dropping the ball on nearly 4,000 cases - which was the subject of an Association of the Bar of the City of New York audit - is an example of questionable competence, and does not on the surface raise questions of criminality.
The criminal justice system should not be used to vindicate political feuds, and create witch hunts. Lives and reputations are destroyed that way. A responsible District Attorney assesses these factors before seeking to indict someone, since this accusation is often worse than the crime itself, particularly in the white collar and political spheres.
A county level prosecutor is limited in what they can do ultimately, without risking a major war with the people who vote on his spending (County Legislators and their friends) and the County Executive. Ultimately, a state or federal prosecutor may need to look into some of the more troubling scandals, if necessary.

and, someone might want to note that this employee has worked for the City since 2002. Post Suozzi? How does he become responsible for the criminal acts of someone who didn't work for the City when he was there, and who first went to work there after he was gone?
Utterly confused now

I'm talking about the wild speculation and defamation on this board trying to find a way to tie Suozzi to the City clerk who is claimed to have embezzled money. Some have charged that this is connected to him and that he is responsible for it. However, the clerk didn't even work there until after he left.

Glen Cove is a political fiefdom of Suozzi. Suozzi is not responsible "per se" for her hiring and retention, she is still linked to the Tom Suozzi establishment. Calendar Watcher, you do have a short memory, as only recently Democrats tried to link the Towns to the County in their political rhetoric during the Gulotta era. If anything, however, the fact that the public was looted by Suozzi hacks directly in the IDA and Sylver scandals andby a "Holzkamp Hack" with this clerk, does lead to the speculation as to whether or not there are additional shady practices in municipal corporations run by Suozzi, or allied with him. That is a fair question. Suozzi may not have been directly in privity or culpable for this clerk's conduct, but it was his hand pick successor institutions which were. That you cannot deny.

Wrong, Prentiss was employed by the City of Glen Cove during the time Suozzi was mayor.

for H when she ran for clerk - he knew her - she had other GC jobs and involvements. He supported her run and soon after he started in with Newsday press releases about how she was going to revitalize GC AGAIN, picking up where he left off - which since he didn't actually do anything - was at point zero. In fact, I think she ran on the same platform suozzi ran on for the CE election if my memory serves me right and she obviously did that with him at the helm. Plus it was just over 3 years ago he left there and what I am hearing is what they are finding goes back alot longer than that. If she is admitting now it's a cover up to prevent embarassing him by requiring the investigation to go deeper.

Coincidence that Steve Worth Democratic councilman from Glen Cove represented Peter Sylver and Marc Gann partner in firm that has vice-chair of Nassau Democratic Party as partner represents Ms. Prentess. Question whom is paying the fees for these high powered lawyers.

Real Journalistic Integrity at Newsday!!! Why is it that with such a scandal in Glen Cove City Hall that you just don’t hear about it. Imagine if it was a Republican administration. All independents and Democrats with “integrity” must realize that your local media is corrupt and doing you a disfavor by not airing the truth. Yes, I am saying something is wrong with the Democratic Leadership in Glen Cove and also the County Republican Leadership for not going after the truth. Has what Mr. Gionio did escaped our memory. This is our City and it is under attack by the political machine that now runs it. Please tell everyone you know so they can make an informed choice and not just look at pretty pictures.

Nassau is next. Print out this thread and show it to them. Pass around the truth. Get Suozzi out in 2005
