A tale of two cities

[Suozzzi] was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and that's the crowd he hangs with. He has an obvious disdain for what he considers the working class and he is obviously feeling he is above the county executive job with his comments that - he doesn't get paid enough, while there are people working 3 jobs to keep a roof over their head and they still don't have the income and assets Suozzi has. The wedge is being driven by his adminstration and the further apart "his kind" can keep away from the rest of us, the better off he'll like it. We can all live in his high rise apartment style ghettos, as long as he and "his kind" can stay in their $1.5 million dollar North Shore homes. Isn't that what he paid with an interest free, collaterol free, $650,000 loan from one of his contractor/developer friends? Is it any wonder he wants to give them all contracts to buy great, big skyscrapers on long island. Let's give the terrorists another big red X to hit shall we?

Suozzi keeps chanting about how he "only" increased the county portion of the property taxes 20% and then held the line but what he doesn't tell you is that he stopped spending the money that the county normally spends on things like road and park repairs and renovations and clean-up. He tried to tell the towns and villages it was their responsibility to do all that county business, and then he forced their hand by withholding money from them for services the town does provide which is with money allocated from the county that the county gets for this reason from the state and feds. It's exactly the same thing he did to the schools by withholding their money and cutting out youth groups and social services, educational and work programs and some police activity league functions - throwing the burden on everyone else. This is what he is complaining about with medicaid. Suozzi is the biggest phony and scam artist going. He complains he has to increase property taxes because the state is withholding reimbursement money for medicaid and yet he is withholding all funding that used to go to the schools, towns and special districts. Then when they are forced to raise their taxes, Suozzi swoops in and blames them for high taxes. In the meantime, thanks to Newsdays complete lack of reporting, nobody has question what Suozzi is doing with the county money because he sure as hell hasn't been spending it on any services beneficial to the county taxpayers. We do know he has a patronage staff of $16 million that get retroactive county benefits including free, lifetime medical benefits for people 55 and over and longevity pay even though they haven't worked in the county very long and don't even live in the county. We do know he is floating a bond in excess of $50 on the pretext of land preservation, but that he wants to build high rise apartment buildings on that land instead. We do know he wants to close down our only public medical center but is floating a bond for almost $2 million dolllars to build a life science center on the Queens border on private property where LIJ-North Shore Hospital is building an outpatient facility and we know Suozzi's father is a trustee in that hospital. We know that millions of dollars in personal service contracts have been given out through IDA and that, thanks to the NY Times reporting, we learned each and every one of those contracts corresponds precisely and exactly to political contributions. We know that you can't even sell ice cream at our parks, which haven't been touched since Suozzi took office, unless you have one of those contracts and the concessionaire who did get that contract is a Democratic Party Leader. We know that while Peter Sylver stole $1 million dollars of federal money (after sexually abusing a subordinate which the Suozzi administration tried to cover up with a confidentiality agreement) that was earmarked for low income housing for poor people, the Department of Social Services housed poor people in motels and then arrested them for using their money earmarked for housing toward basics like FOOD, while Peter Sylver got off with a slap on the wrist. We know the County Attorney forced the politically connected outside counsel to kickback 10% of the fees they were owed or threatened them that they would have to wait until hell froze over before they'd get paid, and that Suozzi has now implemented a scam with his politically hand choosen independent contractors where they get paid immediately, by computer, IN ADVANCE of doing any work at all. We know that Suozzi built "employment" sites in Glen Cove for illegal alien day laborers and that they wanted to ignore the problem of illegal alien's and illegal housing by condoning the activity and simply re-classifying these slums as commercial properties to raise their property taxes which will only lead to more illegals cramming into to further sub-divided sleeping areas to pay the higher rents these slumlords will undoubtedly start charging. We know that while Suozzi has hired 422 appointees, at least 1/2 half having been reported by the NY Times as living outside Nassau County, he has reduced the police force by 522 officers and decimated the special victims unit which handles the gang activity on long island as well handles the sex crimes and the juvenile aid bureau, and we can all see that despite Dennis Dillon's denials, the gang population with all its inherent crimes, has sprung up in almost every town in Nassau County and is so bad in many areas that people are afraid to walk around alone and night and women are afraid to go to the local 7-11 alone by day for fear of being sexually harassed by drunken illegal alien day laborers. This is the quality of life that has been forced upon us while Tom Suozzi has been in office, and he has only been in office for a single term. These are the indisputable things that we know and I'm only just beginning to put it all together. I can only hope others do too before it's too late.
The ones I nominate

I nominate the first two spoofs written on the thread called FIRE STARTER & THE GOP MANIFESTO, plus the one on there that pits Suozzi's halucinatory zoo against Peterson's imaginatory rodeo and this one --- pure entertainment with a grain of truth.

Baseball Steroid Hearings

Can you imagine if Nassau County was holding hearings on how the baseball players use steroids to improve their performance? Lorna Goodman and John Donnelly would first have tried to trade them back to the minors. Then they'd be hired back on the team and given management level positions with million dollar bonuses. Peter Reinharz and Meredith Feinman would then convince the players to sign confidential agreements and embarass them into thinking they should just keep the whole thing to themselves and pretend it never happened. When the steroid use finally leaked out, Peter Schmidt playing the roll of the baseball commissioner, would be labelled an unstable personality type with impulse control problems who needed anger management classes and the players would sue him for breach of confidential information. Lorna Goodman would go to the Bahamas and leave her staff to intimidate witnesses, then prepare them for the hearings by instructing them to take the fifth amendment, then sitting next to them during the hearings all the while legally representing the baseball commissioner, and then later, Lorna goodman would agree to pay the players $475 thousand dollars because they were forced to testify at a hearing after they signed confidentiality agreements with the county. Dennis Dillon would lecture the players severely, then buy seasons tickets for all their baseball games. Tom Suozzi would float by and say he doesn't know anything about what's going on and nobody ever told him what was happening, and then he'd compliment the players on how big their muscles were and how well they performed - encourage them to continue doing whatever it is they're doing, give them all good evaluations and merit bonus pay raises and kick Peter Schmidt on the way into his police driven SUV.
These two move over here

Who cares? What name does Suozzi's wife go by? She doesn't use the name Suozzi.

The short version. The republicans ran the county for 4 decades. There were no complaints from anyone about anything until just before the 2001 election. The county did not go into bankruptcy. There were some fiscal problems that needed to be addressed and they would have been addressed. The republicans wanted to try every last chance creative way to address those problems before resorting to devasting tax and fee raises and cutting necessary services and failing to make ordinary repairs. They never got there. Suozzi snuck up and stabbed his own party in the back by knocking Dinapoli on his ass and used as a first resort the easiest possible remedy and raised taxes and fees while decreasing services and failing to take care of daily county business. By using the tax and fee raise as a first resort, he's left the county more vulnerable to economic changes as the state and federal budgets looming deficits increase and the allocated local monies decline, especially to Nassau County where they tool hate Suozzi and won't do him any favors - thereby hurting us. Running the county for 40 years they didn't do a bad job - compared to the destruction that reigned from the Suozzi administration in only 3 years. Macys, Sears, Kmart - they all were pretty profitable and did a good job running things for a real long time too - but economies of scale change and businesses falter and they wound up literally filing for bankruptcy. They are rebounding though - and it's not because they raised prices - which is basically all Suozzi did. A&S, Alexanders, Bradleys, Orbachs - for goodness sakes whoever thought Gimbels would be out of business? You can't say the people who ran those stores for so many years did a lousy job and at the end it was all their fault. That's stupid. That's what Suozzi and Newsday are trying to get people to believe. Things are complicated but you don't get by 40 years without making a few mistakes, but you do have to be doing something mostly all right. And really - think about it. If things were so bad as Newsday pretends they were - do you really think this miracle that Suozzi allegedly pulled off could happen in only a couple years? It doesn't work like that. And now they are predicting a major multi-million dollar deficit in the budget next year. If the county is in such great financial shape now, how is it expected to suddently go to pot next year? Are we going to war with another borough or something? It makes no logical sense. That's because it's not quite the simple picture Newsday makes it appear to be and it's not all quite so rosy - or bleek - a picture on either side of the coin either.

Teri Schiavo & Suozzi

That last post reminds me of another sad analogy. I guess you could say that maybe Gulotta was wrong in not raising taxes his last year in office - and maybe he'd still be in office but the difference between Gulotta and Suozzi is clearly played out in the Schiavo case. Tom Gulotta was like Teri Schiavo's loving and devoted parents - who wanted to try everything first to help their daughter survive and who were willing to take the hard way to insure that what they believed she would have wanted and did want - was done. Tom Suozzi is the guy who went to the hospital to visit her the first day after she was admitted, casually walked over to the life support system, yanked out all the plugs and then hopped on a plane with her money and went to the Moheccan Sun for the weekend. Maybe the result would have been the same either way but Jeesh - I know whose hands I'd rather be in if I were Teri Schiavo and I know now that as a taxpayer - I'd sure rather be in Greg Peterson's hands next year.
