Two police officers have been transferred and are facing criminal and disciplinary charges and suspension after they went on a wild, drunken binge during which they beat two men and caused chaos in a village.
One of their victims, Desmond St Bernard, spent three days in hospital after being beaten unconscious.
The licking, investigators said, was triggered when he warned the off-duty policemen about speeding along a residential street and putting the safety of the neighbourhood children at risk.
The policemen also beat a fish vendor and threw his fish at the side of the road, when he told them to drive carefully.
The officers, attached to the Penal and La Brea Police Stations, also cursed the senior police officers who attempted to question them.
The incident began at around 6 p.m. last Tuesday when the policemen went to Diamond Drive, Salt Mine Trace, Thick Village, Siparia.
The lawmen, in a green car, are said to have sped along the road. That's when St Bernard, 29, is said to have cautioned them.
The officers kicked and cuffed St Bernard, and in the melee, neighbours intervened and pulled St Bernard to safety.
The policemen are said to have driven off but at Saltmine Trace Junction, they beat a fish vendor.
When neighbours again stepped in the officers are said to have beaten several of them.
An E-999 patrol responded and the officers were taken to the Siparia CID, where they allegedly cursed an Inspector who attempted to record statements from them.
When the officers left the station, they are said to have returned to Diamond Drive and once more beat St Bernard, breaking his jaw, and leaving his left eye swollen shut, and with cuts on his lips.
