Wantagh Library Trustees
04-16-2010, 11:01 AM
This thread is dedicated to the trustees and community members of Wantagh. The Library has earned a prominent place on the wall of shame.

The first question to be addressed is how could five trustees in the space of less than two months all turn against their newly appointed director?

He has worked as a librarian, head of reference and director for more than 30 years. Despite his fine record soon after his appointment the president of the board Gianna Gelci-Steen intervened on behalf of a board hired computer technician. This conflict between Gelci-Steen and the director was escalated resulting finally in the entire board turning against the new director in favor of a minor contractor who was supported by John Smith a former board member.

We'll explore this issue with facts and invite facts and opinions from all sides.

Dear Editor Newsday,

In a follow up to the hearing against me by the Wantagh Library Board which just concluded after a full year in my dismissal on 57 counts of insubordination, I would like to ask the taxpayers the following questions. What is a library Director to do if he/she is confronted with violations of ethics or law by his/her Board of Trustees. Do you know that the hearing officer who tries these cases is paid for and selected by the Trustees directly? Do you know that there is no oversight nor any recall procedures for a community to rid themselves of incompetent trustees except the trustees themselves? What happens if an entire board is corrupt and you have to wait five years to vote each one out of office? How much is the hearing officer paid by the board? How is the hearing officer selected to hear the case? How come there are no provisions for extenuating circumstances which protect an honest Director from an unethical board? Do you know that library boards
spend tens of thousands of dollars of your taxpayer money on legal fees to cover up their unethical practices?

I think that these questions must be answered in my case and in the case of all ethical and honest managers of libraries everywhere in this state. The law must be replaced and changed with a truly impartial mediation board which sees two sides to the story. I am appealing my own travesty of justice, and I hope all like minded citizens in the civil service community will support the changes as outlined.

Wantagh Board, corrupt and foolish to a fault, has just fired another director.
Here are the facts. Before you read it, here are my conclusions:
1) Whistleblowing to the IRS
2) Whistleblowing to the FEDS about possible RICO Act violations
3) Begin Malpractice suit against Wantagh Board's attorney and Bosco's attorney. Both are incompetent. Bosco's case should never even had gotten to this stage. Wantagh has money to burn.
4)What the Wantagh Board did, in some instances, is called STEALING and certainly theft of services is involved here.

The facts in this case are simple:
Board hires a friend of a board member
Board refuses or ignores other bidders at a lower price with better public service credentials.
Board approves outrageous travel pay informally to vendor on the way out of the board room at $125 per hour not in public session.
Public complains of poor service to Library Director. Hours worked don't match up with invoices.
Library Director shows that vendor is overpaid and inadequate.
Library Board REHIRES the same vendor and again does not entertain new bidders from Director.
Library Director refuses to sign checks to vendor.
Library board suspends and charges Library Director with incompetence, insubordination, and misconduct.
Library board then RETROACTIVE IN PUBLIC SESSION APPROVES back travel pay for last 3 years having been forced to acknowledge this outrageous action to taxpayers.
Library Director found guilty and fired.
Library Board has to now determine to do what Director wanted to do one year ago and replace the current vendor.
How does library board justify re-hiring this person in light of public complaints on his service?

I came across this post again. Regarding the quote below. Who are these people? Does a "Gianna Gelci-Steen" really exists? Is this a new species of bovines ? Is she a cross between Elsie, the Cow, and Holstein cattle? Was she a stand-in for Anna Magnani or Gina Lollabrigida or Pyllis Diller? This is some sort of an inside joke, right?

John "Smith?" Oh, come now. Obviously an alias. Just assure me that these are the real names of these people and not aliases. These ne'er do wells should not be allowed to hide behind pseudonyms. Let's have their real names so that we can do something concrete to these BUMPKINS. Or are we playing Dan Quayle's game of "they know who they are?"

So, let's see if I get this straight. We have these Wantagh burghers (you are right, we probably should call them and spell them 'burgers') spending months to find a director. They find one. Then, they fire him in a couple of months. What were they expecting when they hired this Bosco? A Nixon? They went to all of this trouble, and now plenty more, just to fire him because he uncovered fraud and theft? They should erect a statue to this guy on Sunrise Highway for what he did for Wantagh taxpayers

Wantagh, wake up! Your board is an embarrassment to you. You have become not only the laughing stock in Nassau County but among library communities across the state.

Find somewhere else for "Gelci" to graze. And Smith should revert to his original name, Schicklgruber.

Trustees? hardly

Perhaps because trustee board members are not paid for their service they feel they can take psychic pay to inflate their self importance; by acting in an ignorant and arrogant manner they get their kicks.

The Wantagh Board may be an example of this human phenomenon.

In searching for answers to their behavior this factor rises to prominence.

Normally ignorance and arrogance are not esteemed. In politics where the urge to stick together and act as a unit has proved an exception to this rule. This is why transparent, democratic government has proven a antidote to this sick state of our human condition. This is why the Wantagh Board should be exposed for their behavior and offer an explanation.

It is interesting to see Steve in the news on the losing side representing Donald the Duck Trump. Trump has built a sunken salt water swimming pool at Jones Beach. He was supposed to build a catering joint.

He brought in Steve to figure it all out. The Supreme Court told them to take a walk.

Steve in this case wants the court to believe that the State Civil servants are acting in bad faith, and that Trump well known for his deep faith in himself is being wronged.

Steve you and your firm should get ready to take a bath in Trump's pool admissison free for you

Today Wantagh voters can turn out and throw out the board candidate supported by the current board.

This is apparently the only action citizens have left; let's hope they realize it despite the virtually news black out about what this board has done over the past year.

This maybe a measure of whether the middle class is still alive in the suburbs.

Wantagh has further disgraced itself and its children by failing to vote against this execrable board.

There are numerous members of the community who know all the facts since the July board meeting. They should hang their heads in shame; and then get their fat asses moving to do something to reassert the voice of the people.

If the Republicans want a class based lawless party god help them.

regarding election
04-22-2010, 07:13 AM
Dear Public,
It took a huge effort but the Republican machine candidate Ralph Spagnolo eked out a 87 vote margin of victory in the Trustee vote at Wantagh Library. A great progressive candidate who ran on the platform of reinstating John Bosco to his position as Director garnered 307 votes. Not bad when you have people voting against you who didn't even know where the library was located? The Parola Machine even needed the Policemen and local Firemen to vote against the progressive candidate. I never knew a Trustee election was a Democrat/Republican contest before? Take a look on Parola's website at the Wantagh Republican club and you will have no doubt. It is time that the independents and Democrats wake up in time for the next 2 elections to throw out the remaining Trustees who fired Bosco. Next time it will be a political campaign, not a friendly neighborhood campaign that was waged. Lets see if the party of NO can come up with any good ideas in running their
library? I hope for their sake and the sake of the taxpayers that they do.

The Nassau County Opera/Theater workshop continues at Wantagh and Elmont with another great Comic/Tragic Season: Some of the Cast in various operas and operatic roles: Movies too
Ralph Spagnola-Figaro
Joe Parola-Rigoletto
The entity, known as "Advanced Consulting Corporation."--The Phantom of the Opera
Don Giovanni-No Republicans Qualified. Talent is required. But they can handle the clown parts.
The list goes on and on. If anybody out there can suggest Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro type parts for Rao, Cairo, Mineo, Alfano, post your suggestions here on this thereport.com All are welcome.
Scarface roles and Mario Puzo type parts suit them best: "a lawyer with his breifcase," said the Godfather, "steals more money than . . ."

opera buffo

Don't confuse yourself.

Wantagh and its characters are what opera buffo is all about. They are playing themselves. As you say we need real talent to show these folks in their comic malevolence. It is wise to laugh but foolish not to take the damage they are doing seriously.

You may be the script writer this production needs. Could you see booking the opera at Elmont's theater ala Broadhollow Productions?

1)First you never ask for a bond at a public meeting without community input first.
2) Its a tax increase plain and simple
3) Since Parola is the unofficial "mayor of Wantagh" ask his opinion of this. Send him letters.
4) Since Parola's Republican club has politicized this Trustee process they must take ownership of this entire debacle with the board.
5) who exactl;y on the board was hand picked by Parola's machine both past and present to serve as Trustee- I know of four: Sammut, Curry, Mieshma, and now Spagnolo?
6) Are Trustee elections now a Democratic vs. Republican exercise?
7) Renovations to the library can be accomplished by the padded lines already in the budget that are never used.
8) You can save $70,000 a year just hiring Bosco back as Director.
icially backed Republican hand picked Board. Success or failure is now a Party success or failure?
10) Are the rumors true that Parola is the next Commissioner of Civil Service. Will you recuse yourself in the appeal process of Mr. Bosco
11) Ask for an interview , and if you don't get it so state.
12) How come Mr. Parola only shows up at the library at election time? Never saw him at board meetings.?
13) Is Parola respionsible now for all the legal fees piling up on taxpayers to fight against me taking away precious funds from renovation.
14) Who is the library going to get for their next Director? Some kid out of library school? or a former reject?

local politics

themselves in local politics on Long Island. Using big city political organization techniques they have locked up most local positions on boards, villages and town governments. It is all quite absurd, but that is why is works so well.

Folks have never wanted to confess to racism and their own superiority openly therefore absurdity has worked well for them.

Fianally we are a race neutral society; these folks seem more clownish and clueless by the minute. They seem incapable of conceptual or abstract thinking and therefore can offer nothing and are completely lost in the modern world. But they vote, and rightly so. The antidote is clear because they are a disappearing minority of fools.

They deserve credit for educating their children; but they don't want to talk to them.

Re-reading the last posting as it applies to Wantagh, and then, the other "gang that couldn't shoot straight," at Elmont. What a hoot! In this morning's Newsday, Al D'Amato is now establishing a "Consulting Corporation" in Taipei, Taiwan, to use all of his Republic contacts, especially those in Nassau, to grease [no offense intended] the way for more than likely some slimy characters to do business here in the U.S.A. Yeah, business as usual. Oh sure, we know Democrats do some of this too, but not like the scale of the D'Amatos, Bushes, et al. D'Amato's take, and double-dipping, on these deals may even equal Advanced Consulting Corporation's.

Maybe some of these Taiwanese can be invited to live in Wantagh and Elmont (they will really be living in Garden City, Great Neck, North Merrick, etc. etc.) and then serve on our illustrious Library Boards where they can be doled out work by our Business Manager/Consultant friends or that unique "brain trust (bust?)" at Wantagh?

Isn't it interesting that Wang of Computer Associates (a native Chinese legitimate business tycoon already here and prospering) wouldn't touch people like this but that D'Amato does?

Look for Parola, Rao, Mineo, Cairo, Alfano, and the entire Wantagh Board to start learning Chinese.

Simply put:

If the Wantagh Board only knew of how many Long Islanders-- who count politically-- really think of them, they would die of shame, if they had a sense of shame in the nnnnn place. The Wantagh Board come across as oafs and bullies. They are certainly bush league: rude, vulgar, and vile.

Let's check on their High School and College diplomas before we investigate their police and tax records. Then we could suggest psychological evaluations of these sociopaths. You know there is medication out there that they could reach out for to help themselves. Unfortunately, a "smart pill" hasn't been invented yet to invest them with I.Q.'s.

Wantagh Surplus
05-15-2010, 08:32 AM
As a person who is associated with the Wantagh Board, and a Wantagh taxpayer, I see no problem with our Board dipping into our admitedly vast surplus to dispose of the former director who "thought" he was doing the "right" thing for our community. How dare he thinks he knows more than the Wantagh Library Board who are far more intuitive than this director on library practices. Wantagh public monies can be spent in any fashion the Wantagh Board deems fit.No matter what.

If the Board spent our tax money to fire a person they didn't like, well that's too bad. This is the Board's prerogative. In fact, the Board should be spending more money on litigation to whip our library into shape and get rid of personnel who disagree or try to give them criticism whether good or bad.

We voted this Board in. We know that they know what they are doing even though they lack the so-called "qualifications" and "experience." Those pale in comparison when dealing with Civil Servants who think that they know it all and know better than their Boards do.

Guess where he got them..

He knows the game and got what he deserved from Wantagh.

Someone just came back from the dead to accuse Bosco of dishonesty. It has the fingerprints of a primary voter brought back in zombie fashion to cast a vote. It also autowrites and no doubt occupies a chair somewhere which gets a paycheck every week.
