I'm 32 and have a law degree though I do not practice nor am I a member of the bar. Today I received a phone call from a police detective regarding a verbal altercation I had with another fellow in heavy traffic after he cut me off. The detective has said that he "only wants me to come down and answer a few questions."
I'm not sure what makes this situation serious enough to warrant going down there for questioning. Perhaps the other party is alleging that more happened than did. There was a young man and woman in the other car when this happened.
My question is, should I hire an attorney to deal with this matter before speaking to the police? Would having an attorney at this early stage attempt to handle the problem only raise the detective's suspicions? If I do go down there, should I bring someone with me? What would be the best way to handle this?
I am scheduled to meet tomorrow evening.
You have got to be kidding????? Come here to ask a question like that. Your parents should be proud. All that money for a law degree and you come to an internet bulletin board for elementary advice. Get real counselor.

You've gotta be kidding us with this post. But what the heck. Call the detective and tell him to give it his best shot. You are under no obligation to go to the police station to help him develop probable cause for arresting you. If he had enough to collar you, you'd have been collared already.
What a savage....I hope you get the chair!
Tell u what

Give me your name and dob and where I can reach you and I'll get back to you if you are wanted for anything, personally.

Its not a detective, unless you put the guy in the hospital, displayed a weapon or something else felonious, its a follow up unit of some sort, instead of asking these questions here call the guy back and ask him the same question, he knows the answers, and should be honest with you. If you need a lawyer(you dont) you need one at court anything else is a waste of money, unless you have free legal coverage, he should tell you, if you are being charged, he should tell you, and what bail you need.
As the other guy stated if you did something noteworthy, there would be a steady stream of cops at your residence and job. Dont duck the guy, if you didnt do nothing go tell him so. If you did something, sooner or later there will be a warrant for you.

What never ceases to amaze me is the "cops" that entertain these message board trolls - the ones that lurke around here looking to ask asnine questions or pretend that they are real "cops" and post pot-stiring messages intended to cause discourse.
If the last poster really was a cop, he's gotta be a rookie with less than 3 years on. No real officer would entertain this poster with a legit response :x
Since he asked you to come down, it is serious. Not only does it save him the trip, then he will have you under his roof to do with you as he pleases according to what lies the other people told. And so called innocent civilians will lie just to get even with you cause some of this detectives don't have the common sense to figure out that more than one person could be less than truthful or flat out lying.
Consider this, if it was a minor verbal disagreement, tell him so over the phone, especially if there with no personal injury, property damage and or threats. And if he keeps on you, then tell him you will have your attorney call him back. Just because you are a civilian, you never go in without a backup.

I'm 36 and a graduate of medical school - but after wasting eight years of my life and $200k pursuing my education, I never bothered to obtain a license to practice medicine. Anyhow, I'd like to ask everyone's advice about some health issues I've encountered recently. Basically, my pee-pee hurts, my brown star itches a lot, and I have a nasty rash on my scrotum. Can anyone please provide a diagnosis?
Oh - in case you were wondering, I haven't had a piece of ChattiPatti.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks to all who replied.
I called the detective and he told me I was going to be arrested and charged with menacing.
He refused to give me any more info so I told him if he wants to arrest me he will have to come and get me.
After hanging up with him I called my Realtor and told him to put my house up for sale. In the mean time I moved the wife and kids to her mom's house in NJ and put our three dogs in a kennel.
Luckily I am self-employed and can conduct my business via the Internet and via other communication resources.
By the time the detective comes looking for me I will be living in another state. Bye!
Thats good...nobody ever gets arrested on a warrant after the flee to another state. Keep looking over your shoulder..they will get you!

Yeah right, its not a dics job to figure out if someones is lying, its the courts. If you werent in a foreign country when it happened, or a coma and you agree ''something '' happened you will be tried. Thats when the truth will set you free, hahahaha
