Levy: Not backing Foley, no nod for Zeldin: UPDATED
Friday April 2, 2010 4:27 PM By Dan Janison Newsday

As reported here last week by Liz Moore, state Sen. Brian Foley, the first-term Suffolk Democrat in the body who is targeted for defeat in what the Senate GOP considers a critical race, said new Republican Steve Levy told him before switching parties to run for governor that he wouldn't work against Foley's re-election. Rival Republican Rick Lazio has passed that around as evidence that Levy is not quite as Republican as he wants to appear while courting GOP chairman for convention support. Levy denies the Lazio claim, in part stating through spokesman Josh Hills:

“The latest attempt from the Lazio campaign to mislead voters is the implication that Steve Levy will support Brian Foley for Senate. This is absolutely untrue. Steve Levy emphatically states that he will not be endorsing Mr. Foley. He will be fighting to create a Republican Senate that will act on his Contract for New York, a detailed 10-point plan to save our state from fiscal insolvency.”

“While Steve Levy will be working to create a Republican led Senate, Mr. Lazio wants to abolish the Senate, the one area where Republicans have had any clout in New York State for decades, and create a unicameral legislature that places all of the state’s political power in the hands of city Democrats. The Lazio campaign is out of resources, out of time, and clearly out of ideas, and the taxpayers of New York are out of patience for politics as usual.”

When Levy's man Hills was asked today to clarify whether all this means Levy will be working for likely Republican candidate Lee Zeldin against Foley, Hills noted it is still early -- and said, "I wouldn't say he's in a position to endorse anyone. We're in the position of trying to get endorsements ourselves.

"But he's not supporting Foley."

Now that's a kick in the pants,
levy wants to be republican Governor
But won't help the next best chance for Republicans to when back Senate seat and control by supporting Republican Zeldin.
Way to go JJ Lavalle

3rd S.D.: Zeldin's reply to Foley-Levy item
10 m ago By Dan Janison

After the whole exchange Friday involving Steve Levy, Rick Lazio, Sen. Brian Foley and where newly Republican Levy stands or may stand in the 3rd S.D. race, Lee Zeldin, the putative GOP candidate for the seat, send us this statement as a response. It whacks Foley on his stated commitment to "focus on issues" and sidesteps the question of the Levy endorsement and blames Foley for Long Island fiscal ills
