You mean our never around Chief. Once his girlfriend got married he never recovered. Before that he was never around anyways. The only reason he didn't leave earlier was because Maglino kept him in. We constantly were complaining about him, but his friend the Chief just kept sticking up for him.

In the end not one single persons shed a tear over him leaving. If you weren't part of his click then he could careless about you.

As for him going to Hagerman, they were not to please to have him back. I hear he is a no show over there also.

I am curious what direction the department was heading that made him leave. We still answer all our alarms and have more active members then when he left.

The ambulance service in Suffolk County is just that, a service. What does it matter to you, or John Q. if 1, 2, or 3 ambulances respond to a residence to assist in the care of a family member? Oh wait, it doesnt.

In requards to your paid/volunteer dillema, the Company exists to provide emergency medical care to the residents of Brookhaven, Bellport and East Patchogue, and thats what it does. And if I do say so myself, in a rather efficient fashion. So efficient that we can roll 3 ambulances to a standard respiratory call. No other department can do that. Maybe you should sacrifice some "pride" to get the job done. Maybe you should all pay more people so that ALL the residents of the County can get help in a hurry.

You could live in one end of the district and have 3 ambulances roll from the other end of the district without there being a previous alarm. Bottom line, we get help there, and fast.

We send responders to the hospital to back up our crews with lifting, or sometimes to just return the truck to whoever is using it that day. You may also want to take note, BMH IS IN OUR DISTRICT.

Its not how many districts the department covers, it's how many alarms they respond to, and the time it takes for them to get there.

Whatever, im not going to sit here and compare the departments. We're supposed to be out there doing a job and a lot of departments aren't doing that job. So comment however you want on paying people during the day. THEY GET THE JOB DONE.

Why is it so hard to except that things work at South Country. Is loyalty a bad thing. Is doing the right thing in your community a bad thing. Is responding to all calls in under 6 minutes, when most people cant get on the road in that amount of time bad. Is it wrong to have one of the lowest tax rates in the Town or County.

Please someone save us from ourselves. Recently I saw the pie chart showing what South Country cost the tax payer in our community. It is less then 2 cents of every dollar or 1.8% of every dollar.

Again please who ever is the EMS God who determines the best and worst way to do EMS guide us. Provide us with worrds of wisdom, show us the light we beg you. Help us to improve ourselves.

I was reading the FRES Stats last week and right there in the South Country stats under NO RESPONSE which is a 24 in laymans terms South Country had i think 7 or 8 of them.

Let me see if we dont handle an alarm in someone else district, that is a failed response to our department, because the FRES data says so.

You also get a no response if FRES takes a call and does not dispatch you because it was determined EMS was not needed. So now we should respond to calls we don't even know about.

Bottom line, we have not missed a single call in the Tax Paying District of South Country in well over 13000+ alarms. I hope that clears it up John C.

As for our former 31 Chief what can be said about a no show Asst. Chief that use to park a First Responder at his apartment and drive around a sprinkler truck when the department could have been using the vehicle. Our how about his disappearing with his girlfriend on his duty night. Or how about his just not showing up at anything for months. He was a great loss to our department. The only person he cared about was himself and money. When ever I needed him he was never there, maybe if I had slept with him I could get his attention.

Just to correct you, departments do not get a N/R if FRES does not dispatch your call, you get what is listed as NFA for No Further Action.

And while South Country may do an excellent job of providing service, their little leaders demeaning attitude to everyone he talks to, especially those on the other end of the radio, is a major reason he has very few fans outside of his own department.

New york State law i am sure could help you answer your question about conflict of interest. i do know that in fire depts you can only be 32 and 31 if you are an employee it is against the law to be 30 then again with ambulance companys maybe its different but thats all about to change. maybe if south country was not so high profile and abusive with there power things would have been left alone. not with there chief though he doesnt know when to shut his mouth, but that is good because he is bringing himself down and myself and most of the community will be the smiling

Rumor has it, that the person posting with the screen name Guest is none other then me; Mr. James P. Jack. I hate to break the news to everyone, but it is not I who is posting about South Country Ambulance. As we are all aware, if I have something to say then I will sign my name to it. Just wanted to clear that up. Greg and I have spoken about our differences with one and other over the phone, and we have come to the conclusion that when we are both at the hospital together, we will maintain a professional attitude. Just for the record; who gives a crap how many vehicles are brought to a single job, just as long as the patient get the appropriate care that they need, and a rapid transport to the hospital. I personally think that South Country does a fantastic job. They get out on all of thier jobs, and if I'm not mistaken, usually about 99.9% of the time there is an ALS provider on the bus. But first off the question earlier to how can 30 be a district employee, it is legal it would be illegal is he was being paid as a paramedic, it is illegal for you to be paid you the same task you perform as a volunteer. The way around it is that districts hire members as custodial staff and reease them for calls. Second the same person under guest keep saying that south country members are this and that and that they wont post thier names, mean while he keeps talking mad shit and even saying he will fight them but yet I haven't seen his name on a post yet

I know this board doesn't let facts get in the way, but a fire chief or asst. chief can not be employed by the district in ANY capacity. Below is an opinion of the NY Attorney General. Can't say about ambulance districts but I don't see why it would be any different.

You have asked whether an employee of the fire district whose job title is house maintainer may accept the position of fire chief and hold both positions.

In the absence of a constitutional or statutory prohibition against dual-officeholding, one person may hold two offices simultaneously unless they are incompatible. The leading case on compatibility of office is People ex rel. Ryan v Green, 58 NY 295 (1874). In that case the Court held that two offices are incompatible if one is subordinate to the other or if there is an inherent inconsistency between the two offices. The former can be characterized as "you cannot be your own boss", a status readily identifiable. The latter is not easily characterized, for one must analyze the duties of the two offices to ascertain whether there is an inconsistency. An obvious example is the inconsistency of holding both the office of auditor and the office of director of finance.

There are two subsidiary aspects of compatibility. One is that the principle equally covers an office and a position of employment or two positions of employment. Also, where positions are compatible, a conflict of interests may arise out of the simultaneous holding of the positions. The conflict can be avoided by declining to participate in the disposition of the particular matter.

You have informed us that the duties of the house maintainer are light maintenance work at the fire house which is owned and operated by the fire district, including answering the telephone, disposing of garbage and other minor maintenance duties. You have also indicated that the house maintainer's "duties and instructions come from the Board of Fire Commissioners".

The board of fire commissioners of a fire district is authorized to employ persons necessary to effectuate the objects and purposes of the district. Town Law § 176(18-a). The commissioners have exclusive management and control of fire district property. Id., § 176(19).

The fire chief of the fire department of a fire district, under the direction of the board of fire commissioners, has exclusive control of the members of the fire department at all fires, inspections and other occasions when the fire department is on duty or parade. Id., § 176-a(1). Under the direction of the fire commissioners, the fire chief also supervises maintenance and use of the engines, fire trucks, pumpers, hose wagons and other apparatus and equipment used for the prevention or extinguishment of fires. Id.The fire chief has supervision over "all officers and employees of the fire department". Id.

It is the fire chief's responsibility to ensure that the rules and regulations of the board of fire commissioners are observed and that the orders of the board are duly executed. Id.When required by the board of fire commissioners, the chief reports to the board on the condition of the property of the fire district and other information requested. Id.The chief


shall hold the members, officers and employees of the fire department strictly to account for neglect of duty and may suspend them for improper conduct, subject to the action of the board of fire commissioners at its next meeting. Id.

If the chief is absent or disabled, the first assistant chief or other assistant chiefs, in order of rank, are to perform the duties and exercise the powers of the chief. Id.
We believe that the positions of fire chief and house maintainer are incompatible. Under the above provisions of the Town Law, it seems clear that the house maintainer is subordinate to the fire chief. The fire chief is the supervisor and the house maintainer is the supervised employee. Obviously, one person cannot effectively or impartially supervise him or herself. While you have indicated that the house maintainer receives his duties and instructions from the board of fire commissioners, the provisions of the Town Law governing the relationship between the fire chief and employees of the fire district are binding on fire districts in this State. Fire districts have only those powers that have been delegated to them by the State Legislature. Unlike municipalities, which have home rule authority, fire districts are controlled by the State Legislature.

We conclude that the positions of fire chief and house maintainer of a fire district are incompatible.

The Attorney General renders formal opinions only to officers and departments of State government. This perforce is an informal and unofficial expression of the views of this office.

If you really took the time to read the above posting you would see that this deals primarily with fire districts. Ambulance companies in the Town of Brookhaven are not fire districts, they are ambulance districts; therefore we are not New York State municipalities, we are Town run. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do believe that there is no written law about Ambulance Chiefs being employees of thier own districts. If this was such a conflict of interest don't you think that the Board of Directors of South Country Ambulance would have investigated this or do you think that Greg has everyone under some type of spell.

Are the requirements of being a member of South Country Ambulance a little strict, sure they are. I know if I was a member down there I personally would not be able to abide by the requirements, but that is why they have such a tight ship down there. If you can't fulfill the requirments, then you must move onto another department that has more lienient rules and regulations. This is where something else comes into play. It is the simple will of human nature. The power of choice. The choice being - if the members of South Country Ambulance didn't feel comfortable, or they felt the requirments were too tough, then they have the choice to resign and move on. yes we did have an echo level call and we did 24 shirley. Our service manager/chief/a hole was out of the district. However he is allowed to be out of the district on personal business. Dont worry everyone that hates him he just keeps digging his own grave deeper and deeper.Cockiness and stupiditty are a great mix and he is both.

Why has south country rarely if ever have/had an employee over age 30, well maybe one or two? Does that speak for itself enough about control? It is very hard to control someone with life experience. What is the longest any employee has lasted since the a hole has been incharge? NOT LONG AT ALL. Doesn' that tell you something Greg? Get your head at of your a double s. Not many people like you. Oh and I dought you get very many christmas cards anyway, or as your dumb self would say "anyways". Keep stong arming and putting the fear of god into people voting or likeing you. We where working 3 alarms at once, which is typical, It was a 6 year old in cardiac arrest. Our 31 chief and our capt called our sister department for back up ALS, oh how terrible.

I dont want to further burst your bubble but Gregg was there on scene an worked the arrest with our other paramedic. I suppose ensuring that you have enough people is a terrible thing, especially when it is a 6 year old and a 3rd alarm.

Give us a call when another department can run 2 or even 1 alarm during the day. Does it bother you that much that we get our job done and protect our community. I will get some more facts and share them with you at a future date.

Doesn't matter if your on a 1st alarm or a 5th alarm, Gregg, being the paragod that he is in his own mind, should be able to run an arrest with himself and the minimum of an EMT. You can call the entire world in, doesn't matter how many people are there, only a few can actully get their hands on the patient. Another question, when does it become common practice to have an ALS provider on scene with a pediatric arrest and wait for another ALS provider to arrive before they transport. If you have someone to drive the ambulance, and a medic or a CC with an EMT in the back, then just do the best you can and get the patient to the hospital. This should just be common sense. Laughable631, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are wrong, your department was wrong and your chief was wrong. You should have loaded the patient and got them to the hospital in a timely manner. When I say wrong, I mean that in a transport decision aspect, not a patient care aspect, I was not there so I have no place commenting on the patient care, from what I understand the patient did not make it, but, that is what this life hands us sometime. My condolences to that childs family.

EMS is a very small portion of our taxes. Most of the money goes to the school district. The low taxes in the SC district are low because their school district sucks. Go ahead and raise taxes SCA, it won't affect taxes much at all. Who says the department wasnt asked to go down. They recieved an official request for mutual aide from a department in Brookhaven Mississippi. They were credential by the Mississippi Division of EMS, and approved by the Mississippi EOC.

But I guess thats not enough for the nay sayers who sat here in NY with a roof over their heads, food in their bellies and no flood waters under their feet.

Ironically not only did South Country handle thier calls while in Mississippi they also handled mutual aides from other local departments.

I just read something interesting that the team lead by Greg Miglino that went to the gulf coast, disobeying orders from the government, who asked them not to come, used funds from their annual community fund drive to pay for the trip. I don't think they should have done that without asking the community first if they wanted the funds they donated to help the local ambulance company spend in that fashion. It seems to be a misappropriation of funds at the very least. I hope that someone is going to look into this and bring some charges against all 6 members who went.

if it was a recreational or other event, thats fine they deserve to be fired, but in the case of a natural disaster God bless anyone who takes the time and risks so much to go down and help those people, we should all look at these people as role models

Ironically not only did South Country handle thier calls while in Mississippi they also handled mutual aides from other local departments.

So before you beat them up maybe you should start a thread about departments that take taxpayer money and regularly dont answer calls.

Whats worse an ambulance doing work in Mississippi saving lives or an ambulance sitting in an ambulance house doing nothing while people in their community die.

Twenty-four men, including an Army lieutenant colonel and a West Islip firefighter, were arrested by Suffolk police for soliciting sex with minors on the Internet.

In a month-long sting, detectives from the Computer Crimes Unit posed as 13-year old boys and girls on the Internet and set up dates with the men, agreeing to meet them at a private house the police department rented in central Suffolk.

Thirteen of the men actually showed up, many of whom carried condoms, video equipment or pornography, police said. When they arrived, the suspects were greeted by police and arrested. All have been charged with disseminating indecent material to a minor, a felony crime.

"There was a time when parents only had to worry about their kids walking to school and back, well those days are gone, these sexual predators can get to your children within the four walls of your home and that's a very scary concept," said Police Commissioner Richard Dormer, who characterized the suspects as dangerous predators. One, Dormer said, showed up with a friend and threatened to rob the house after having sex with the minor.

Using the house, Dormer explained, made the investigation more efficient, but did not constitute entrapment.

"Merely affording somebody with the opportunity to commit a crime in New York is not entrapment," Dormer said. "When our investigators go on-line posing as 13 boys or girls, they are immediately hit on. They do not reach out to anybody. They just put their screen name up and they get hit."

The announcement of the arrests comes just two weeks after the sentencing of a man who pleaded guilty in one of Suffolk's most infamous cases.

Lester B. Joy, 24, of Morristown, N.J., who met a 16-year-old Southampton girl in a chat room and developed a sexual relationship with her last year, was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison Jan. 30. Joy coaxed her to go with him as far as the Mexican border, launching a nationwide search that lasted for two weeks.

The girl eventually called home from El Paso, Texas.

Det. Rory Forrestal of the Computer Crimes Unit has said that men tend to find children to prey on by using search engines that lead to chat rooms frequented by teenagers, and that they develop relationships with the children over time.

Last October, under an agreement with Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Internet giant Yahoo! announced it was closing down chat rooms likely to be visited by sexual predators.

The action was targeted at Yahoo! chat rooms with names such as "5-13 kiddies who love sex," and "Girls 13-16 for much older guys," according to Spitzer's office, which conducted a seven-month probe.

Thomas Johnson, 24, a West Islip firefighter, is charged with one count of Attempting to Disseminate Indecent Materials to a Minor, an E Felony.
