I have not heard anything confirming this. Do you think that Levy would actually go for that while he is shutting down sector cars? I truly believe that the SCPD will not get involved with EMS/Rescue other than training us as EMT-Ds. We do not want to take away your responsibilities. Stay safe out there

The paperwork went thru REMSCO should be approved by the county shortly. However I did not say they are not starting an ambulance service, but they should, would be the best thing for EMS in this county, next to North Shore.

Suffolk Legislature is not going to allow this to happend.. Cops will be NOT be rolling ALS units a first responders or patient care rigs..

I saw a COPE marked SCPD Expedition on Marcus Blvd. in the Hauppague industrial park yesterday, and as it was passing by, NYS Certified Decal on the rear quarter panel. Not kidding. So is it for real? Any of you REMSCO people got the 411? I got a plant in Hauppague and Central Islip, I'll call them, tell me it's true!

I went to a fire at the airport today and saw 5 brand new braun ambulances by the esu garageand at least 20 people apparently being inserviced on them. they were all white with the scpd on the door and a star of life on the side. The SUV from hauppauge was also there.

1. The SCPD unit has been responding to the industrial parks in Central Islip-Hauppauge's district for some time now.
2. NYS is a "home rule" state. This means if a area is protected by a fire district the fire commissioners make the decisions, no other agency can handle their fire or e.m.s. calls without their o.k. ( the islip departments signed off before they had would have the service of north shore's responders).
An ambulance district may be a different situation because i believe they are actually under contract with the town.

Sorry thats for FIRE PROTECTION not TAXI rides. It is most CERTAINLY acceptable to bill insurance companies for ambulance transport.
FYI the hospitals already bill insurance companies for equipment used by the EMS providers THAT THE HOSPITAL NEVER PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE.

That is hardly an OK to go ahead with the plan. I believe after such a meeting each department would have to go back and discuss the idea with their own respective boards.

I was hired October 17th of last year with at least 5 other medics. two of 'em quit north shore for the position. We have not been given specific assignments yet but spend most of our time getting things ready. Are you the chief that was hired with me? Gimme a call man! I'll tell you what I know so far.

Home rule? What part of Town Law are you reading? Nobody is starting a Fire Department in someone's District. (only time that would be a problem)
County, their police can do just about anything that the legislature charges them with within the police district.
Ambulance Companies are under the Town Board, not the State directly like Fire Districts with EMS, you are a line item in a Town Budget, not a taxing entity with the power to levy.
I asked a simple question, evidently won't get the answer here.
As a guy in business and alot of people that waited for care, if it works, go for it.
It's amazing all this talk about it on these shithole threads, but Newsday with all it's "top notch" reporters haven't mentioned it.

Now I ask, why the industrial park only with SCPD, CIHVA covers some territory, special need, special people? How many departments don't M/A them anymore?

Actually, the businesses within the industrial park all provided some, if not all of the funding for equipment and the SCPD 1st response vehicle. It's part of the COPE program and is staffed by a SCPD officer who is a Paramedic. It's there because of the high mechanisim of possible injuries, call volume and because of the slow or lack of response by CIHVAC. A few years back, the industrial community provided funding and contracted a private ambulance to stay in the park (I think it was AMR or Lifestar). They had since pulled out of the contract and they went forth with a proposal to SCPD. The businesses put money together to provide funding for equipment and the actual vehicle.
I think its a great idea to have a medic in that area, always ready.

It will be announced next week that the SCPD will be placing als ambulances in Ridge, Middle Island and other selected areas to augment response in areas where the reponse is chonically delayed.

SCPD has districtwide ambulance privledges. They were an NYS ALS First Response agency, but recently became an NYS Ambulance agency. They don't need permission from anybody. Probably would be the best thing to happen to EMS in Suffolk if it did get off the ground. Unfortunately there is no money for the service. Maybe we should strip funding from all the VACs and FDs to get it started. They're not doing the job anyway. 60 minute response times are the rule these days, it seems.

Really now and this is not a dig on the cops, but they won't or can't even ride if an ambulance does go to the scene. Maybe try that concept first before you start trying to spread all the other BS first.

Nassau had to take cops off the ambulances because of equal pay. You cant pay a cop to be an AMT 100 grand and pay another person to do the exact same job only 50 grand. All amts in Nassau are now civilians. Suffolk will do the same. Nassau makes $$ by billing the patients insurance company for the ride to the hospital. Nassau seems to be ahead of Suffolk in many areas. The NCPD requires every homeowner and business that has an alarm system to have a permit. They are raking in $$ with these fees. When an alarm co calls them with a burglar alarm activation and there is no permit....they send out FINES. Fines are raking it in$$$.. If the homeowner/business fails to pay for a permit...they become a NO RESPONSE. The alarm co calls with an activation...no one goes!

I agree, scpd is horribly understaffed, as far as patrol goes, plenty of desk jobs or gang units, but we need street cops.
If they were to ride ambulances they'd have to hire about 200 more cops

Nassau didn't HAVE to taker the cops off the buses...It was a political deal. The PBA sold the guys in the unit down the river. The net effect was to give up 70 cops jobs ( new positions were not opened up elsewhere in the Dept...) and 10 vehicles were removed from patrol. There were cops in the bureau writing 100 a month with half a dozen arrests and tons of assists to the post cars. It wasn't the same job at all. AMT's weren't hanging paper or collaring up or responding to police calls. They handled aideds and that's that. You had cops out there doing two jobs for the price of one. The AMT's now make just about whet the sworn personnel made, doing only one. and the guys in buses like the Bayville Express sit around doing nothing. Last I checked they were up to 500 runs a year. God bless em, nice work if you can get it. I don't begrudge the civilians anything they got, but let's call a spade a spade, shall we?

The above is not entirely true..the PD funded the whole thing..the businesses pay nothing. The unit has been operating for 10 years, and is ALS.

This is true. I am a former employee of brentwood ambulance and responded to a call in the 4th prect. area where an als first response suv was on scene taking care of the patient.
they have no jurisdiction to put ALS ambulances in any area, they would need permission from the FD. And I highly doubt that.
That's where YOU'RE full S. No one needs permission to run an ambulance service and there ARE parts of Suoolk county where they do provide EMS service, such as Fire Island.

While this probably wouldnt apply to SCPD, anyone else would need permission, here is the Suffolk County Law on the subject:
Chapter 393, PROPRIETARY AMBULANCE COMPANIES, ABUSES OF
[HISTORY: Adopted by the Suffolk County Legislature 9-14-1993 as L.L. No. 21-1993. Amendments noted where applicable.]
§ 393-1. Legislative intent.
A.This Legislature hereby finds and determines that certain proprietary ambulance companies and/or advanced life-support first-responder services monitor, intercept or otherwise receive the alarm transmissions of law enforcement agencies, fire service agencies, other ambulance services or advanced life-support first-responder services, and that such proprietary ambulance companies use information contained in such alarm transmissions for the purposes of dispatching resources to, or responding to, such alarms without a written mutual-aid agreement authorizing such responses.
B.This Legislature further finds and determines that such dual, uncoordinated and unnecessary responses on the part of such proprietary ambulance companies constitute an unsafe practice.
C.This Legislature also finds that such unsafe and uncoordinated responses on the part of such proprietary ambulance companies interferes with the emergency medical services provided by volunteer fire departments and volunteer ambulance companies which provide such services as a municipal entity or pursuant to a written agreement with local government.
D.This Legislature also finds and determines that the behavior of such proprietary ambulance companies and their employees in undertaking such responses have a deleterious effect upon the volunteer providers, contribute to high stress and low morale in the volunteer service and increase the cost of providing such services to local taxpayers and third-party insurers.
E.Therefore, the purpose of this law is to stop the abuses and unsafe practices caused by the uncoordinated and unnecessary response of these proprietary ambulance companies and to stop such proprietary companies from responding to alarms that they have monitored, intercepted or otherwise received and for which no written mutual-aid agreements exist.
§ 393-2. Prohibited acts.

Like it or not things need to improve. St. James FD recently took 45 mins. to respond to a call at the elementry school which is a 30 second brisk walk away. I think iit was actually handled by another district.
The public have no idea what goes on. Even the good districts that try very hard can not consistantly provide the kind of service that should be the standard.
I recently spent time with an ambulance crew in Jamaica (the Carribean one NOT Queens, NY). I thouht I was going to be laughing at how backward they were. The vehicle was not up-to much but the equipment was first rate. Pre-hospital 12 leads were standard procedures along with end-tidal CO2 capnography capability and the 2 paramedics on board sure sounded like they knew what they were doing. I invited them to visit my dept. in suffolk but I hope they dont come. I will be embarassed. They would laugh at our ALS capability and most departments including ours don't have 12 lead.... forget it, some of our people can barely count to 12. They would be impressed with our LED lights and sirens though.
Let's be honest... we can and should do better or we should get out of the way and let someone else try. BTW I asked my friend how much his propert tax was for his modest but nice house, it was $900..... Mine in nearly $8,000.
If the people of Suffolk County really knew what was going on they would not call us hero they would call us ass-hole.

This guy just keeps stoking the fire about being paid to get people upset and rant and rave. Fact is 80% of the country is volunteer.
There is a need for paid departments in certain areas and I don't dispute that, in an urban environment there are far too many calls to run with a volunteer force. But it does work in suburbia and in the country. I have been a volunteer fireman for over twenty years and worked side by side with both paid and volunteers. I have found both to be competent and professional in most instances There have been times when that was not the case and it was both paid and volunteer that were unprofessional and immature, althought that was the exception to the rule. That one comment immature sums it up for the child that keeps posting all over this site "lets go paid". Either he needs for the suburban departments to go paid to get a job because he can't get on the job with FDNY or he is simply a stooge for IAFF. Either way he certainly is not a real fireman because I have worked side by side with real firemen and they would never disparage a fellow fireman be it paid or volunteer.

It will be announced next week that the SCPD will be placing als ambulances in Ridge, Middle Island and other selected areas to augment response in areas where the reponse is chonically delayed.

Actually I can only think of one instance where it was SUGGESTED the ambulance took too long, and that was due to wrong and conflicting locations of an MVA being given.

He either wants a job in a suburban depatment because he can't get on the job with FDNY, he is a stooge for IAFF, or a disgruntled former volunteer who was kicked out. NO that is what the current bill with the town would do.
The only times kept are from each individual department not a "call track history"
i.e Call activated at department #1 24 time 8 min later
Call activated at Dept #2 24 time 6 min later
Call activated Dept #3 24 time 10 min later
Call activated Dept #4 24 time 8 min later
Call activated Dept #5 sig 2 3 min later and 21 15 min after getting call.
The records would show that an ambulance arrived 15 min after recieveing the call. The actual time is 47 min after actual alarm.
We have all heard the 24 game. How many departments does it take to get an ambulance out, but no one keeps track of the actual time from Call to ambulance arrival once it is 24'ed.
In those times would be your numbers and cold hard facts.
I can tell you a lot of the fire departments got their ambulances because the ambulance service in their area was takeing too long to get to calls (we are talking 30-50 years ago before anyone gets defensive about this).
I can tell you once this data is collected, some departments are going to have to find a way to guarnetee better responce or their certificate of need (CON) may get taken by a paid ambulance service (transcare, Lifestar etc...) who knows how to work paperwork like that. All it will take is showing that the average time to get an ambulance to the scene is signifagently larger than the county average and they can take the CON with some political backmanuevers

Dont make it out like its some miracle thing. NCPD has only like 10 ambulances or something for the whole county.
How it was explained to me in Nassau was if the volly agency (Be it a FD or VAC) can guarantee ALS onboard, they are the primary agency. If they can't, then NCPD is the primary. If NCPD isn't available, then it'll fall on to the VAC and if the VAC can't get out, the FD.
So really in some places you have duplication of ambulance service x 3 because you have PD/VAC/FD overlapping. But in that kind of system you don't really hear about the kind of problems that Suffolk has in terms of mutual aid calls going around for 45 minutes before an amb gets on the road.

How is it acceptable to have such a antiquated system. We rely on people who need to work 2 , or 3 jobs to provide for their families and then volunteer. The negatives are so many.
1. No guarentee of services rendered- this means unless you have a paid system you can not make any promises that there will be an ambulance to save a life.
2. Poor response times- National average 6 minutes, I dont feel I need to say anymore on this subject.
3. Tired and drained EMS workers- Imagine you are going in for surgery who would you rather have a doc who is vibrant and refreshed ready to go to work, or the doc fresh out of med school, on his 18 cup of coffee, and hacks your butt up at 3am. Dont fall into the trap and think medics or CC's dont make true life saving decisions with life taking consequences.
4. No action of recourse - Someone screws up in volunteer world, its a slap on a wrist in many offenses. I have seen the negligence, such as incorrect treatment, inappropriate behavior, sexual harrassment, chiefs running scenes from home, transporting to the wrong hospital despite what the medical provider stated. These go without punishment "cause they are merely volunteers"
Finally, when did we lose focus of volunteering to save taxpayers money? Buildings topping out at nearly 15 - 20 miilion dollars. New top of the line vehicles with every bell and whistle, and generators that can run lower Manhatten. It is a sad, sad sight to see a "volunteer" tax saving system come near of even exceed a paid service. Look around in the US tell me where you have seen so many fire rescue sales reps, they drewl to be here knowing that the depts, and districts will pay premium dollar just to be number one. Where does 3.5 million go for a less than 25,000 population. WHy does there need to be 5,6,7,8 engines, a ladder or 3 in every town, Heavy Rescue in every town, tech rescue, and why do we have fire police, there something called NCPD and SCPD to do that bidding.
Want to talk the talk, trying walking the walk. I dont need a white shield to know how screwed up these counties are, and how much we screw the taxpayer by providing crap for service. Do not take this the wrong way we have alot of talent, I would not only hope, but weould expect the day that the county gets of its fat cat ass and provides EMS service that it would hire all you EMT's, CC's, and Paramedics, providing that everyone was willing to become paramedic to provide definitive care. I dont blame the players, just the game.

All the points here are valid.. The hard fact is that the ems system in suffolk is definatley over run..(maybe if we educate as to what and emergency is this will help the situation)... Alot of the districts already have a paid system and volunteers backing them and the call volume due to non emergency transports is through the roof ( ie Brentwood/Central Islip Hauppauge)... As for the PD running the ems I dont think you will see that anytime soon due to the taxes on the island already sky rocketing...Levy is already shutting down sector cars and had to find out the hard way that it was a mistake...For them to run the ems they will need to put on more patrol officers to pick up police calls while one sector car is shut down to handle the ems run, not to say the medical personnell (emts,cc's,medics,supervisors, a medical director,QA/QI)...The volunteers are not as bad as people make them out to be although they are not perfect either...You all discuss the negatives 45 minutes, you seem to forget that there maybe medical personnell on scene, and 45 minutes is not as common as you people make it sound...Maybe we should also reflect on the good they do Deliver babies, CPR Saves, Help people with other medical or trauma problems...
We all know the system is not perfect but stop putting it down more then it already is...atleast 90 + % of the time the quality and response time is adequate or beyond...

I can sympathize that many calls are BLS, but the base standard of care for many still are IV, O2, and monitor. Thus they are not BLS. Many calls we go to are BLS cause people do not know any better. Simply ask yourself this, when you take a patient to the hospital, does that patient end up having an IV in his or her arm? Do they treat for pain management? Did the ED place that patient on a monitor? Take their blood suger? Give any type of medication treatment? Admit the patient? I f you answer to anyone of these your call has become ALS. Plus if you do have a severe call a cop or firefighter can always drive the ambulance. By the way if a boy scout can splint a limb why do you need us EMT's.

You're not entirely right. The HIA does not pay anything for the ALS police flycar service. It is fully supported by the county pd, has been for 10 years. The HIA needed to protect their interests by providing a better response time. The police inspector in the 4th Precinct who was an innovator at the time agreed to do it. The legislators bought the SUV. That's how the unit got started. In fact, there is a similar unit in the 2nd Pct also ALS. In fact, I heard that all the Marine Bureau boats operating out of Fire Island are now equipped as water ambulances. Seems the PD is now an ambulance agency. They are certified to run a system if they want. This information came from REMSCO.
then let them have it already and be done with it.

The SCPD has held an ALS First Responder CON from the State Health Dept. for many years. The fact that they have deployed a unit in the Hauppauge Industrial Park and the Second Precinct has been well documented through legitimate sources ad infinitum.
The SCPD Marine Bureau has been routinely providing treatment and transport of aided case victims for many years at Fire Island, sans the areas that provide EMS, i.e. Ocean Beach FD, Saltaire FD, and most recently, the Fair Harbor FD as a BLS FR agency. However, the State DOH worked with Suffolk County officials to legally upgrade the Marine Division and its' fleet to comply with Part 800 regulations to allow the Marine Bureau to transport patients from the barrier beach to the mainland, which included petitions by the PD and County for waivers against certain requirements, as they did not apply to maritime operations.
Kudos to the SCPD, County EMS officials, and the State DOH to formally recognize the job that these officers do to protect residents and guests of the barrier beach. They are not "water ambulances", they merely are complying with State regulations to legally provide the service thay have done for many years.
Oh, and BTW, they're both CC's, not medics in the COPE cars.

SCPD had a conditional use license for an ambulance that would dispatch with ESU for really bad calls. They are now in the process of applying for an operating license, so if they get it, they will be able to respond to anything they want at any time.

While on a factory trip in Pennsylvania I saw a white engine with a freightliner style cab striped and letter for Suffolk County PD. I asked the factory rep what they were buying it for. He said they wanted to make sure there was an engine at any related PD activity such as heavy rescue calls, helicopter landings, hostage negotiations, etc. I can't wait to see it on the road!

From my understanding, each town (specifically Smithtown and Huntington, but others I'm sure) have their own frequencies - so they'd need a different pre-empter for each township. Islip doesn't have any.

Be smart for once people, the Suffolk County PD have priced themselves out of the picture on ANY new branches of their Department. With the tireless work of Frayler and Company in securing excellent wages for his Police Officers, the one thing they didn't count on or simply didn't care about is the fact that any NEW opportunities for his members is completely out of the question because of the very same salaries.
PD in a Fire Truck, Rescue Truck, or any type of truck is just ridiculous.

Um, yes, they do. Whether the manufacturer does it, or at a certified testing facility, they all have to be certified to make sure they pump at their stated capacity. If they didn't the truck could not be included in your ISO rating.

You are an a z z c lown. The county is doing the taxpayers right by certifying the new rig. What if it is defective? It is better to have the truck tested independently of what the mfr does before accepting delivery and then being forced to suffer for the whole time you own the rig because you didn't check it up front and accepted a defective truck.

1st SCPD was getting ambulances, now fire trucks, I hear they are also considering garbage trucks to make sure the lids on the cans are put back in place, also they want to patrol our schools to insure there is adequate security and may begin actually teaching to insure students pass the state tests, the lifeguards are out this summer the boys in blue will handle that (we can call it Boob watch), they will also have plows installed on their cars to insure the roads are clear when it snows....
In reality for what they get paid this is probably a fair work load. Compare their compensation to what the vollies get and you begin to realize the bargain your really getting. And for those of you concerned with response times when was the last time you called a sector car???? Get real.

The new engine passed, barely. There are some leaks on the intake side of the pump that almost caused it to failed the pump test. It is going back to the factory for some minor corrections, then it will come back for another try.

PATCHOGUE, NY - MARCH 12, 2007: At 10:03 a.m. The North Patchogue Fire Department were dispatched to 259 Oak St. for a structure fire.
When First Assistance Chief Jack Blaum Jr. arrived on scene he mutual aided in Patchogue FD, Hagerman FD to the scene and Medford FD to standby at NPFD's main.
With the quick response from Chief Blaum Jr. and the neighboring Fire Departments the structure was saved.
This fire started from an electrical problem in the wall and is under investigation. There were no injures reported at the scene.

Mastic NY- On Friday March 9 ,2007 at about 12:25 pm, Mastic fire department and Mastic EMS were toned out for a reported residental structure fire on Montgomery rd.Mastic fire departments cheif Steve Quesada was first to arrive on scene. He then addvised firecom that there was smoke showing from a two story private dwelling. Throughout his investigation he addvised that it was a backyard fire with minor extensions to the 1st floor of the dwelling. He then requested that two engines respond to the scene. When the 2 engines (5-12-1,5-12-3) arrived on scene they immeditley hit the hydrant and went to work. Minutes later the frie was confined to the first floor of the dwelling, and quicley knocked down. A signal 4 was then transmitted at about 12:40pm.
All units took up about 1:00 pm. Cheif quesada remained on scene ,waiting on the arrival of the fire marshal. john-paul walthers contributed to this story.

MASTIC BEACH, NY (3/6/07) Just after 7:00 a.m. the Mastic Beach Fire Department received a signal 13 at 41 Lombardy Drive Shirley, NY.
First on scene was Chief Mike Montella who confirmed he had a working fire and radioed to County Control for a Signal 3 for Mastic Beach FD and a signal 24 to Mastic Fire for an engine to the scene and also Brookhaven for a RIT Team to the scene.
Chief Anthony Capersino arrived on scene shortly after Chief Montella.
As the two Chief’s were sizing up the structure they found that this was a house under construction and had no occupants within.
Chief Capersino ordered the residents directly next door at number 43 to leave their house due to the high winds that were pushing the flames in that direction.
The first due was Unit 2 Driven by firefighter Ray Trocciola with a full crew that was directed by Chief Capersino to run a 1 ¾ inch hose line to the front door along with a search team to enter the structure.
Firefighters on the hose lines going in the front door led by Chief Mike Montella were Paul Alker and Jeff McGown. They made an aggressive attack on the fire that was being fed lots of wind making it a difficult blaze while Firefighter Jim Donnelly fed hose line into the structure.
Firefighters from Brookhaven FD took a second 1 ¾ inch hose line to back up the first crew making entry into the building.
Unit 3 driven by Ex-Ex Chief/Firefighter John Milazzo was second on scene with a full crew and stretched a 5 inch line to the hydrant on Pinetree Drive and Lombardy Drive to be connected to unit 2 for a continuous water supply.
Unit 4 driven by Firefighter Mike O’Connor arrived on scene with a full crew shortly after unit 3.
Mastic Fire Dept.arrived on scene with a pumper and RIT team and took a position near the front of the structure.
Chief Capersino radioed to County Control requesting that a Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshall and Suffolk County Arson be sent to the scene.
Although the house had been reported vacant on arrival, firefighters under the command of Chief Capersino and Chief Montella conducted a search of the structure and confirmed no victims.
There was no report of injuries at this alarm as Mastic Beach Ambulance Company stood by on scene.

NORTH MERRICK, NY (February 13) – The North Merrick Fire Department was called upon in the early hours of Tuesday morning to fight a working house fire at 1082 Ott Lane near Jerusalem Avenue.
North Merrick’s Bravest arrived to find fire showing from a door on the exposure two side of a two story frame private dwelling. Additionally reports of a missing occupant were being received. A Signal 10 was transmitted and mutual aid to the scene was requested.
North Bellmore Ladder 657 came in as an additional truck and Uniondale Ladder 754 was the FAST Truck. East Meadow’s 615 also responded as an additional ambulance.
Two lines were stretched off first due engine 674 and the fire was knocked down in short order. All searches proved negative and the reports of the missing occupant were unfounded.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. The Bellmore, Merrick and East Meadow Fire Departments provided standby coverage while North Merrick operated.

FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY – Shortly before 4:00PM on Thursday February 8th the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department was alerted to a reported house fire at 172 Gilford Court near Nassau Blvd. FireCom advised the first responding units that numerous calls were being received and they were also receiving reports of a house on fire on Dogwood Avenue near Nassau Blvd.
The first arriving first Franklin Square Chief reported they had an outside fire involving propane tanks between two homes on Gilford Ct and that 172 Gilford was becoming involved. A Signal 10 Working fire was transmitted. In addition an engine and truck from Elmont was ordered to respond to the Dogwood Ave side and protect the homes on that side.
Fortunately the fire only involved the siding and sheathing of 172 Gilford. Two lines were stretched and quickly had the fire knocked down. The Nassau County Fire marshal’s Haz Mat Team responded to help mitigate the leaking propane tanks.
Mutual Aid from Elmont, West Hempstead, Hempstead, Malverne and Stewart Manor either operated at the scene or covered Franklin Square’s district.

MALVERNE, NY (FEBRRUARY 6) - A late morning fire in Malverne damaged a two and a half story private dwelling. Malverne firefighters arrived to find fire traveling in the wall and breaking out in the attic of 99 Norwood Street.
A quick stretch combined with opening walls and ceilings had the fire knocked down quickly. Mutual aid brought a FAST Team from Franklin Square, a ladder from Lakeview, an engine from Elmont and an ambulance from Lynbrook to the scene.
Early reports indicate that the fire was posssibly caused by a plumber doing work in the house. The Nassau County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Lynbrook , NY - Around 2:30 on February 3rd the Lynbrook police department alerted the LFD to a fire at 270 Vincent avenue cross of Ella street. In minutes a chief was on the road and on scene and transmitted the job. A moderate smoke and fire condition was evident upon arrival. The fire was located on the number 2 side of the house. The fire was under control within about 30 minutes. A great job by all.

CENTER MORICHES, NY At 1310 hours on Wednesday, January 17, the Center Moriches Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at the Kurt Weiss Nursery, 95 East Main Street.
Upon arrival, First Assistant Chief Bill Renzetti reported that there was visible smoke from the second floor of a dwelling in front of the nursery. Center Moriches Engine 3 arrived, leading off with a 1.75 inch water-line, with crews making their way to the second story of the dwelling.
Tanker 5 arrived with Engine 3 and provided an initial water supply for the attack. Engine 1 arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, dropping the 5 inch supply line across Montauk Highway, and deploying a straight lay to Engine 3 in case a continuous water supply was necessary. This caused Montauk Highway to be shut down for a short period of time.
The fire was located and rapidly extinguished. There was some extension into the attic area of the house, but the crews strategically suppressed the fire, holding it to the room of origin and a small portion of the attic. Primary and secondary searches of the dwelling proved negative.
Center Moriches Fire Department was expertly assisted by the East Moriches and Mastic Fire Departments.
The fire was under control within a half-hour of the receipt of the alarm. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is presently under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshall’s Office.

West Hempstead Fire Department was called to 287 Bedell Terrace on January 14, 2007 at approximately 18:30 hours for a house fire. The first chief at scene transmitted a signal 10 working fire. The fire was located on exposer 1x2 conner on the 1st floor of a 2 story private dwelling. Mutual aide was received from the Lakeview Fire Department ladder 411 to the scene along with Hempstead Engine 2 and Elmont ladder 707 as the fast team and Engine 712 was standing by at West Hempstead Fire Headquarters. All visible fire was knocked down within 15 minutes. Nassau County Fire Marshals was called to the scene for an immediate investigation.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY - On the afternoon of Sunday January 7th the Islip Terrace FD was activated for a reported structure fire at 35 Cherry CT. On arrival of the chief he advised that there was smoke showing. He then requested a retone for a working fire (signal 13/35).
1st due engine laid in a 5 inch supply line from the hydrant. The chief then advised them to not hit the hydrant. He then notified that the fire was a dryer fire and crews quickly knocked it down. One attack line was charged. The fire was quickly knocked down and the house was ventilated. There were no injuries reported. The fire was under control very quickly.
SUFFOLK COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT we deserve it!!!!!!!!

Medford Fire Department extinguished the fire quickly with no injuries. The fire started from the oil burner or chimney area. Nobody was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Manorville NY: Around 4:45 P.M. on December 5th the Manorville FD was dispatched for a house fire at 30 North Street. First to arrive on the scene was Manorville Chief 5-16-31 to find that he had smoke showing from the home. The Manorville Chief radioed back to fire com to transmit a signal (13-35) working fire. First due engines in were 5-16-3 which was told to drop a 5-inch line and a one inch 3/4 line to the front door. The second due in was 5-16-9 Manorville's ladder truck along with a tanker. Suffolk Looking to Recruit Volunteer Fire, Ambulance Workers
BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (AP) -- With fewer people volunteering for Long Island fire departments, Suffolk County hopes to boost membership by touting financial incentives in a new marketing push.
Despite a surge in volunteers after Sept. 11 that raised Brentwood's department total to more than 200 firefighters, it now operates with just 160 active members.
Brentwood First Assistant Fire Chief John Carney said people just don't have the time to volunteer because they are working two to three jobs to make ends meet on Long Island.
Suffolk is paying for TV commercials to recruit. The ads highlight retirement benefits, college tuition credits, property tax reductions and low-cost housing options for younger volunteers.

More news regarding the new SCPD rig. They found the real cause of pump test failure, a crack in the pump housing. There is a dispute as to how/when it happened and who will foot the bill for the new pump.

They had the test done by FDNY....they wanted real firefighters to help them get started.
When it failed the test, one of the FDNY guys administering the test hit the other with a metal chair, but then said he fell.

Actually, the chair collapsed while the FDNY technician was sitting on it with his clipboard. The test went well except for that. The truck should be in service soon. The crack was only cosmetic, the pump passed, the lettering is being put on now. Should be out on the expressway putting out car fires any day now.

While on a factory trip in Pennsylvania I saw a white engine with a freightliner style cab striped and letter for Suffolk County PD. I asked the factory rep what they were buying it for. He said they wanted to make sure there was an engine at any related PD activity such as heavy rescue calls, helicopter landings, hostage negotiations, etc. I can't wait to see it on the road!

Be smart for once people, the Suffolk County PD have priced themselves out of the picture on ANY new branches of their Department. With the tireless work of Frayler and Company in securing excellent wages for his Police Officers, the one thing they didn't count on or simply didn't care about is the fact that any NEW opportunities for his members is completely out of the question because of the very same salaries.
PD in a Fire Truck, Rescue Truck, or any type of truck is just ridiculous.Suffolk pd already has 3-4 ambulances that they own and never use.
You mean like computer crimes?? anti gang task force, street crime units, cadaver dogs, bomb dogs/robots, or the 6 hummer 2s, 12 durangos, 47 quads, Suffolk county has a long list of toys and hi tech gadgets they want to buy, and they simply are waiting on grants from the govt to get 'em. The current admin has numerous ideas of how to employ their cops ON THE STREET, if they can replace a desk job and force a cop back onto the road they will. Love to see you get vertical, I'm guessing you'd make the 2nd, tops. How many victims? Not just dirty lungs either, lets get some full thickness, hamburger smell going.

Vollie Districts have similar "low rise" conditions and some even "high rise conditions" and yes those of us that need too, know what a "hotel pack" is and how to go to the floor above, don't take it for granted that we are all idiots like 151. "Hamburger smell?", some of the wood frame development ranches out here spread faster than a campfire in a Boy Scout camp on a windy day. Try a high ranch with OSB sheathing with volitile vinyl siding on top and laminated truss rafters with nail plate connections, the $hit would be all over your "sixbrick" a$$ in no time from all sides.
Yes tell the kid to learn the job, don't tell me though that what I do for free twenty four seven, three sixty five for over thirty years doesn't take "guts" or me and my brothers and sisters are not "real firefighters".. Do you wear a pager, leave a family barbeque to protect you nieghbors, get off your shift and drive around in a car that basically has your phone number and address on it, can't park it without people asking what the hell you are doing at a convience store, buying milk "wasting my taxpayer gas"? Yeah the LOASP and the toys, wow, I can get the Times and a cup of coffee every morning with my $300.00 a month when I retire and cash in all those guys I raced with back in the day. No unlimited sick, no mutuals, no job security please, you are as new to the fdny as 151 is to our world from what you say..

I was a vollie on and off, but as times changed, and things like mortgages and college expenses for my family took precidence over helping the community. I have nothing but respect for the respectfull. Read through his cliched, tired recruitment one liners, and you see no respect for anyone.
My post shouldnt be construed as a knock on the vollies or their efforts or "guts". Sorry but anyone who challenges another to a "Whose firehose is longer" contest obviously has ego/security issues.

Thats funny, whose firehose is bigger? Yup, grow up time kiddies. It doesnt matter who's got the shiniest red fire truck or whos better trained, or more brave, or who can complete their b, c d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z, run. It matters that you do whats expected of you quietly, humbly, honorably and not disgrace the ones who did it before you, learn that 151, then you are a fireman.
