I keep hearing that the PBA and other PD unions want to do a "no confidence" vote on the Dormer administration.

I don't think that's anything more than a lip-service, PR stunt, but I am reading some very concerning posts from Police Officers who are obviously "in the know". Is it possible that we have a real public safety emergency?

With that said, I would like the officers (and involved civilians) to post if they have confidence in the police commissioner's job so far and direction, and why (or why not).

I agree, a no confidence vote would be unanimous, but have no teeth. The guy is out of touch with the men and women on the street. His shutting down of cars in the 2nd Pct is ridiculous! Did anyone see the article in today's Newsday? His statement at the end of the article shows he's out of touch..."Ever since we started the pilot program, the union has been calling up the media everytime there has been an incident." He said the union never called the media LAST YEAR when an incident occurred. Gee, why? CARS WERE NOT BEING SHUT DOWN LAST YEAR!!!

Prior to the Levy/Dormer administration shutting down cars, a S.C. Legis. Taskforce was created to look at police staffing levels. C.O.s of precincts were actually testifying before the taskforce that they needed ADDITIONAL officers to do a much more effective job. What did Levy and Dormer do? Seek additional officers and create new sectors? NO!! They REMOVED 2 sector cars from the midnight shift in the 2nd Pct!! They recently moved the Cos of several precincts around. I understand that the CO from the 1st Pct was moved because HE TESTIFIED THAT HE NEEDED MORE OFFICERS!!! He's now in the 4th Pct and that precinct is targeted NEXT to have cars shut down!! This is "good" police management??? Time for this duo to go!!! 2007 is fast approaching. Hopefully there will be a candidate that can win against this anti- law enforcement Levy.

Agree that a no confidence vote would have any teeth... but hopefully it will shed some light on what is really going on.

Dormer first showed he had no control over what was going on when Levy named Moore as Chief of Department. He even testified to that fact in front of the legislature. Then Dormer starts promoting people who worked on Levy's campaign.

Dormer also demotes some people and cannot even give them a reason for the demotion (obviously politically done and not based on any real evaluation). I think this is really funny since Dormer knows exactly what that is like when Cosgrove forced him out 12 years ago.

The PD has changed quite a bit over the last 12 years and Dormer, while working at Sports Plus, has really has lost touch with the realty of the Police Department.

I feel sorry for the people on the PD who are really feeling the effects of this.. except for of course the people who have benefited by being friends of Steve Levy.
