Where and who determines where these group homes are located?

Why aren't these homes by law disclosed to new home buyers?

Why do they all seem to pop up in white middle class neighborhoods like Wantagh, Levittown, and Massapequa? We never see them in Great Neck, Jericho and Hewlett...I wonder why?

Wantagh, Levittown, and Massapequa are all apart of the Town of Hempstead, and zoning board votes can be persuaded. Plus the Town of Hempstead Board is too busy padding their own pockets, and helping keep patronage alive in the town. Don't believe me? Start going to town hall meetings and read their by-laws and stuff like that.

The Padavan Law applies to these group homes, and it is very difficult for a town or village to prevent them, unless they show that the area is oversaturated with them. There has never been a case in NYS where a town or village won on oversaturation. The reason they show up where they do is that the homes in these areas are more affordable for the orgnization than in richer, higher income areas.

Since NYS has passed the Padavan Law, no local area can pass a more restricive law, so towns and villages are stuck with it.

...no taxes

Most areas dont want them because they are taken off tax rolls...everyone else has to make up the difference. They use services ...cops,ambulances but dont pay for them.

Massapequia is in North Hempsted and not Town of Hempstead, if your going to post get your fact right.

Neither Zoning board cares about the people. It is time to Consolidate all the towns.

If you had an ounce of smarts, you would know that local minicupalities are goverened by the feds regarding these type of homes. So take it up with your federal officials.

So silly

So it's Peter Kings fault? lets vote him out too. I also think you are wrong about your statement and that local MUNICIPALITIES can do something about how they are or are not GOVERNED.
Please use spell check before questioning another posters smarts.

what kind of group homes are we talking about?

for the mentally disabled (AHRC) or manic depresssive types with social issues(mentally ill) ?

If it's for AHRC, the mentally disabled, there are group homes in places like brookville & old westbury. VERY rich & upscale neighborhoods...and sometimes the families of the mentally disabled DONATE their homes so that their loved one can remain in their home when the parent dies.
These houses are well kept. AHRC does the landscaping & part of the individuals chores are to keep the house clean...

It seems the group homes with so called poor minority youth end up in nice white middle class neighborhoods.
