You are so right, I have waited for the posts to come in on this. Not "ONE" god damm post backing this up. All you young kids who think you are FF, weither you get paid or not are shame-full. My father made similar comments about new cops in the late 1960's. He said the new guys were bums and not worth a shit. We get smarter as we age. You are recognizing immaturity and discipline issues and it's never going to go away. It exists in the Army, college campuses, and in private industry. We have to leave the door open for the new jacks to learn and grow. They'll make mistakes like all of us had and we just have to hope for the best in them. I think they'll do fine.

very well said and hopefully true. in the interim why not teach them that if you have nothing to say they should keep their mouths shut. their path to becomming better ff's does not lead over the back of volunteers. i've been a vollie for 20 years, i don't drink, or smoke, i work out regularly and have more firematic experience and training then any 2 or 3 year bop in the fdny. i realize they want to make their bones and swing their dicks just have them do it quietly. there's good and bad in every organization. just like the majority of paid ff's are good people so are the majority of voluteers. not all of us support drinking or drill teams or whatever else we are accused of.

good rule of thumb quietly listen, learn and then if you can impart your knowledge onto others. in the interim it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool then to speak and erase all doubt.
