Here's a little information about our fearless leader's sense of human decency. A PO from the 7th was passed by for promotion in the last group was made. If that weren't bad enough for him his father passes away the same week and the wake is on the date of the teletype of the promotions. What does our fearless leader RD do ? Well I'll tell you ! He has one of his Chiefs call the PO at home an hour or so before his father's wake to request him to remove his name from the promotional list so that they can get to three other guys below him. The Sgt's list is good for another 9 months, do you think it is possible they could have shown a slight bit of compassion and waited to ask him to do this. I don't know who the three names were that did not get made but if I were a betting man I'd guess it is someone with juice ( or someone of color ). THis is the type of person who is the leader of this Dept. Very sad indeed ! Now before anyone starts in on the PO from the 7th I am not saying if it was right or wrong him being passed over again. What I am saying is that as human beings they could have handled the situation with compassion and waited . What's the difference if the three have to wait for the next bunch of promotions. If they really want to they can promote the 3 separately in a few weeks when the mans father is buried and he has had some time to grieve.

Richard Dormer has absolutely no shame.

A little off topic, but newsday today mentioned a shirt that the union was giving away showing a picture of Mr. Levy with a monkey (supposedly Commissioner Dormer) on a leash and the caption "Steve and Dormer the Performer". Is that true? Can any officer out there post a link to the picture?
Back on topic...if a boss (in this case, the commissioner) doesn't bend over backwards for one of his employees in their time of need, they are not much of a leader. If one of my employees lost a family member, the ABSOLUTE LAST THING that I would do would be compound their misery with work related bad news...even if they were stealing from me and about to be fired.
The commisioner should have gone to the wake HIMSELF to express his sympathy, and left the bad issues until the employee is on solid ground. Thats management 101 stuff. I know the SCPD is big, but how many funerals can be happening a week? 1 or 2? The least the commissioner should be doing is sparing 10 minutes from his busy schedule to attend. I bet the deli owner that the commissioner likens himself to would have done it :x

F U whiners, don't you know how hard it is to get down on the list to Chief Webbers kid? Why wouldn't a PO fall on his sword while the dept. was putting one in his azz to help out a bosses kid an elite member of the stratified protected few. So what if it was on the day of the PO's fathers wake a PO who is getting kicked in the balls by this department should be honored that he was given an opportunity to help keep the nepotism system moving ahead.
Dormer the Reformer........Give me a break, different day same bullshite, different scumbag bosses in charge.

LOL funny one!! I've yet to see that applied here! I've yet to study for Sgt, but those who have quote Iannone and I've yet to see much of that put into practice here, too.
Love my new T-shirt!! have to go to the malls and walk around showing it off. My kid gets a kick out of the monkey!
Speaking of monkeys, maybe a former Chief needs to come back and "teach" this monkey a few things.

Heard that Levy asked for an investigation into why a friend of his had to wait 45min for a PD back in January for a Burg prior. Where? 2nd Pct. of course. 4-12 tour. Tapes were pulled, and the whereabouts of surrounding cars were checked. Everyone was where they should have been. Dispatcher was spoken to for holding the call when there was no one to give it to.
Is that why dispatchers have to notify when a priority 2 call is holding?

This does not sound like the actions of a level headed person. Mr Dormer obviously has an ax to grind with the Police Union and is hurting the Department to get his digs in on Mr Frayler. I have to agree though, that Mr Levy is the puppetmaster and Mr Dormer does nothing without getting the approval of C.E. funny thing that noone mentions is that Mr dormer has his whopping pension due to the negotiating of the Police Unions in the past. He had no problems with the unions when he was a Police Officer , Chief , or any of the ranks in between. But when he gets a non police job running the department then the union is very very bad. Sounds like double standards to me .

i started this forum anticipating all the cop bashers and Liberals ( probably one and the same ) would find some way to stick up for our Jackass PC . I have to give the liberals and cop bashers their apology . Even they realize what an asshole the PC is. Not one response in PC's favor out of 1200 people reading it . pretty telling that everyone thinks he's a scumbag. :D

Sad, but does not suprise me. Does not suprise me that the Pc is a puppet of the Commisioner. Why? I have always said, the Comissioners only job is to keep it by doing whatever the mayor tells him to. Now it is the same for you guys out in suffolk. Sorry. I am hoping that one day, even if it's after i retire, to see the PC picked by the outgoing Pc, or some type of board, or election, like the Sheriff. I don't know exactly how, but having the Pc of any agency answer to the one person who gave him the job, is a conflict. It does not serve anyones best interests (especially the citizens) to have somebody with no police experience calling the shots, like Levy, or Bloomberg in my case. Don't agree? Ask Former NYPD PC Bratton how far he got by telling Giulliani he was wrong. (Even though he is in La now).

Shut up girlee-man, or I'll kick your ass.
HOW CAN THE COMMISSIONER ASK AN INDIVIDUAL TO REMOVE HIMSELF FROM THE LIST? IVE NEVER HEARD THIS. SOUNDS GROSSLY AGAINST CIVIL SERVICE RULES. IS THERE MORE TO THE STORY? DISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS? ANYONE HAVE ANY FURTHER INFO?

Bingo circle gets a square. Shooting a suicidal perp out of a tree, recklessly paralyzing a tresspassing teen via a chicken wire clothesline, working a second job while out injured, having ties to a fireworks distribution network. The hits just keep rolling in. Remove yourself from the list or get a Civil Service Law article 75/76 hearing and get de-certified for your current position. Rumor has it the dept. will keep it's hands clean and have the Feds do their dirty work for Felony insurance fraud based on dept. surveillance.

You jackasses are missing the point of the post . not saying he is a good guy and should not have been passed over . Basic human decency dictates they did not have to do what they did , when they did it ( on the day they were waking his Father ). They could have waited a while and then put the screws to him if they wanted . Timing is everything , especially when there is somebody they want to get to on the list ( List was not in danger of ending for another year !!! ). Just plain heartless decision
That was a $hitty move by the PC....But why not promote the guy in question ???
Just like they did to P.B. of H.P . ....
Papa can you hear me?

I guess you don't get it. Or you suppose the commissioner of police, a management position, should be on the same "side" as labor?

The commissioner has many responsiblities to his deponents, it should not just be about overtime. His main concern should be how best utilizing his personal to serve the public best.
Playing musical chairs with patrol cars to trick the public into believing he is saving money isnt benefitting anyone.
Bumping people in line for a promotion because his golf buddies son has been annointed as a inner circle recruit, and will never score lower than a 98% on any test he takes, simply because of his lineage is wrong.
So now you know

Well, too bad. Now you know what it feels like to be a taxpayer, do everything right, but still get f+++ed anyway.
Look at all the bellyaching over ONE person who was given nepotistic treatment. Balance that against all of the other civil service protections you have. Then make an overall assessment as to the quality of your position.
There now. Don't you feel better?

You are right, it can always be worse, like getting locked up for beating your kids
