For some time now, I've been reading and hearing about the SCPD and their plan to cut costs by not manning, or "laying up" cars in their county. Both sides have been very vocal. What's up with their neighbor to the west, Nassau? Well, their contract states that literally tens of thousands of man hours are no longer necessary to be filled. Where is the outrage there? Cars can and do go days without being filled, and the PBA says nothing, the department merely follows the orders of their true commisioner, Souzzi, and nov one seems worse for the wear. All parties can't agree how many police officers they need, and, in the interim, the public truly suffers....

police commissioners do what county executives want them to do
police inspectors/commanders do what the commissioners want them to

the public truly suffers....
When things aren't going you're way, suddenly you care about the public. but while you're bragging about your salaries & vacation time, suddenly the public is a pain in the azz.

Way off. I'm not a cop, my concern is my safety, my family, my business. I pay 500+ a year, No complaint as we all pay for county services.
Cops are making their salaries, and will take care of each other, who's taking care of us?
500+ a year for parttime cops? no way
Fewer Police on the roads
In some ju8risdiction, including long Island, this is probably a good thing.
Less cops on the road equates to less cops screwing up and less money taxpayers are responsible for when cops screw up and get sued.
