Over the three years leading up to 2009, Suffolk lost 519 uniformed officers and rehired only 286, according to the county Legislature's Budget Review Office, leaving 2,432, the smallest force since the agency began tracking cop levels in 1993.
Let's see... 519-286 = 233. So the SCPD is DOWN 233 cops since 1993. That number, 2,432, includes all supervisors, from sgt. up to chief. I wonder how many unfilled positions there are at H.Q.? How much has the population in Suffolk County (legal and illegal) increased in that period of time? How many new neighborhood developments have been built and added to the tax rolls in that time?
While there may be fewer officers in Suffolk's force, there are 100 more cops patrolling the streets since 2004 due to civilianization of desk jobs, Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said Tuesday.
Let's see... That means there were 333 cops doing desk jobs???
Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said Tuesday. Further, overall crime has fallen 20 percent countywide in that period, and "that's a measure of the effectiveness of the police department," he said.
Isn't the DOJ investigating the manipulation of stats?
