Who needs the city???? Nassau and Suffolk counties should become the 51st state. I've been saying this for over 20 years. All our money stays right here. We could cut all taxes by at least a third. Make the capital in Hauppauge where there's some space to build state capital buildings. We can even use the soon to be decommissioned Plum Island as our state penitentiary. Port all NYS laws to LIS laws, subject to legislative modifications as needed. We'd get 2 senators and 5 representatives (unless after the census we get a 6th?), with 7 or 8 electors in a swing state, we'd get way more attention from the federal government, not to mention 100% of any state aid. It is without a doubt a winning situation for Long Island!
