Ever hear of pay parity? In NYC cops and firemen are VERY close in pay.
Do you really think the UFA is going to allow Suffolk to create a PAID fire department without getting involved and getting the MOST for their NEW members??????
You people, who want a paid dept in suffolk DO NOT THINK.
The may not make 100 g's to start but i bet it would be close to say 80 or 90 k.(TO START) and that would just be for a firefighter1, now take into consideration Dept Chiefs, Battalion Chiefs, Captains and Lieutenants all of which would make MORE than a firefighter1. Not to mention commisioners who would ALSO be paid,support staff, secretaries, drivers etc etc etc........
and we havent even started on equipment,buildings etc......

we have the highest paid cops in the country and some how there are short handed.
mabe we should talk to steve levey about what he is doing in office

The fact is that at least 1/4 if not more of New York City firefighters are volleys also. The fact that one is paid and one is not has nothing to do with how much they drink. To say that all volleys are drunks would be a big injustice to the whole group. Remember that both paid and volleys are people. There drinking problems are in every profession.

Finally, someone with common sense on here has spoken. As for these Vollies, they get insurance, workers comp, and a pension. The only reason they do not want to go paid is the fact that a good number of them will not past the requirements and will be tossed out on their overbloated behinds ending their power trips. And there are those that do not want to give up the gravy train they have been riding for years.

As long as we're going over 6 mos. Dix Hills FD had a "meeting" (got drunk and told war stories about the smoke alarm they handled). 10 mins after the meeting broke up, there was an accident on the south serv. rd. and bagatelle.....the volly driver was already in the ambulance on the way to the hospital before PD was even called....you figure he was DWI??????
