It is a hoax, the men behind this are trying to rebrand themselves as tax watchdogs all the while staying silent on Leg. Dennenberg's vote to raise home energy tax and voting to give Suozzi a 60% raise.

First you pretend to be outrages by the raise.
Then you refuse to answer the question of why you stood by when Tom Suozzi, Howard Weitzam and Maureen O'Connel gave themselves 60,000 raises last year.
lastly you return to democrat headquarters in shame.

These raises are unacceptable. ROLL THEM BACK!!!!

Why dont you do something truly helpful and go after the schools and school boards, where 65% of our tax bill comes from. Otherwise this is nothing more than a self-serving dem trying to play politics. Tell Leg. Dennenberg to stop the games!

Denenberg voted to appoint Suozzi hacks to overpriced board positions in a last ditch effort to pad the County payroll before Suozzi's term expired. These positions included putting the Town of Hempstead Democratic Leader into a no-show salaried part time position. Another appointee got a part time County position with a salary of $75,000. Dave voted to appoint his buddy Nogid to a new position- how much does that pay? Where's your outrage with these appointments? Denenberg's part of the problem. He is a liar and a Suozzi tool. This roll back the raise group has NO CREDIBILITY.

I hear Dave pays for his district office from campaign money. How is roll back the raises use of his office a legitimate campaign expense? Since his office is supported by campaign funds, it should only be used for his own campaign related happenings.
Does he use county office supplies there? Does he staff the office with his county paid employees? Does he do county legislator related business there? Is the County Seal on the front window or the sign? In other words, has Dave crossed the line with the district office- can it be called an annex of his legislative office (even though he pays for it out of campaign funds) and so its use to attack TOH electeds is a violation of Ethics laws.
Dave may have a problem here. Two potential violations, twice as nice!

Dave Denenberg is the hardest working Nassau County legislator!! Is this the best you can do, when he has a good idea, to throw a past misunderstanding up in his face. The voters spoke and they approve of the job he's done, also he voted against raises for NC legislators. I may not approve of all the choices and votes of the NC Legislator, but the election is over, and the Republican's voted for salary increases at the County and Town level. People have a right to voice their objections.
I find it very curious, we haven't seen recent arrests of public officials for breaking the law. BTW wasn't voter fraud recently reported, and no one did anything about it.

How can we now trust this forgerer to get signatures for a petition to roll back the legislative pay raises. Who would trust any of his gathered signatures. People may think Dave just sat home and signed signatures using his own creative genious and the voter registration list.
I support rolling back the raises but we should not sign the Denenberg petitions because he is a fony hipocrit who voted for legislative pay raises when the Democrats were in power.
The current raises are outrageous, excessive, and wrong especially after the Republicans got elected after running on a cut spending reform platform.

These raises amount to less than $60,000 a year TOTAL for the town electeds. Young and Donnelly are fighting to roll back raises that amount to LESS than what Suozzi's raise ALONE was in 2007. (the one that their godfather DAVE DENENBERG voted for).
This $60,000 is less than the Suozzi/Denenberg midnight $75,000 PART TIME appointment that went to a do nothing Dem Party loyalist. And this was only ONE of almost 40 Suozzi/Denenberg last minute appointments.
Nobama's budget has a TRILLION dollar deficit. Paterson's budget is BILLIONS in the hole. Suozzi left Mangano with a $100 million shortfall. These clowns are crying over $60,000 increases for town elected officials that are actually balancing the municipal budget. Lets hope none of these "roll back the raises" organizers ever win an election. If they were elected officials it would be really scary!

Everyone needs to get off that Denenberg is behind the roll back the raises effort. I am a 22 year old from Hempstead NY, and I was at the rally and I did not see Dennenberg, or Suozzi there. I also did not see Goosby or any other democratic leader. I saw more conservatives and like minded people standing together asking the TOH to give back their raises. Get over it Republicans and come help the Roll Back the Raises effort. If the Democrats do it in the State where they are in control than I am convinced that the same people will fight the raises in Albany. The fact is that elected leaders work for the people, and not for themselves. If you are a TRUE Republican you should also be calling for a referendum on ALL raises that elected officials give themselves. The only people that are complaining about this effort to roll back the raises must be working for the party in the town. If that is the case you are an embarrassment to the cause that the Republican Party is supposed to stand for. Let's end patronage, end high government salaries, help the private sector create jobs and allow people there freedoms. Oh and I hate these dam MTA rollbacks. Can we talk about that next?

lets get it straight- there were maybe 30 people at the rally, including 2 tea party people who packed up their signs after the press left and one conservative. The rest were Dem activists. Denenberg's not gonna show up because he doesn't want to be directly tied to the issue since he wants his own raise at the legislature (Mejias screwed up that vote). When Donnelly and Young were handing out petitions they did it at Denenberg's headquarters (did they pay him to use the office? If not he violated campaign finance laws). You are 22. Were you a Denenberg intern? Start posting again in 5 years when you have some real experience in this business. Goosby's not gonna be there because these fools are trying to take money out of her pocket- can't wait to see what she does to Denenberg if he runs for Sup- he will not be welcome in her district!!!!.

It was 20 degrees on a weekday morning so I would not expect to have many people at a protest becuause they are working. There were only 3 towns that voted themselves raises including TOH. The Riverhead Supervisor actually took a pay cut.
If you don't believe that there is a lot of anger over this you have greatly misjudged the tax payers. The TOH is hoping again that voters will forget in 2 years, that is why they do this right after the election.
The $166,000 Public affairs person from TOH defending the raise should say it all. According to this weeks stories 1 in 10 are going hungry, foreclosures are at an all time high and the unemployment rate is almost 10%.
TOH has done this nonsense for so long its hard for them to see outside of their own short sighted and greedy eyes. They just don't get it.

Just found this to keep it honest in here.
Legislator Pleads Guilty To Falsifying a Petition
By BRUCE LAMBERT
A Democratic Nassau County legislator pleaded guilty in court here on Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of falsely attesting that he had witnessed eight signatures on a nominating petition.
The legislator, David Denenberg, was given a year of unsupervised probation by Judge Randy Sue Marber of the county's First District Court. With no fine or jail time, she ruled that Mr. Denenberg was allowed to retain his law license and his elected post, enabling his party to hold on to its precarious one-vote majority in the Legislature.
The case nonetheless injected new political uncertainty in a year when control of the Legislature is at stake with Mr. Denenberg and all the other 18 county legislators up for election.
''I'm sorry, I was careless,'' Mr. Denenberg said in court here. ''I won't ever let this happen again.''
Mr. Denenberg's lawyers later said that he had submitted thousands of signatures properly but mistakenly signed one sheet as a witness when he had not observed those signatures being made. The petitions designated him for the post of party committeeman.
But Patricia Friedman, who said she was among those who filed formal complaints of fraudulent petitions, said that prosecutors let Mr. Denenberg off easy. ''There were hundreds more forgeries, including one signature from a dead woman,'' she charged when interviewed.
Nassau's chief assistant district attorney, Patrick McCormack, declined to comment on whether there were other significant violations in Mr. Denenberg's petitions.
County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and the county's other top Democrats all rallied behind Mr. Denenberg, endorsing his re-election and predicting that he will win overwhelmingly despite the court case.
Though Mr. Denenberg has won by increasingly wide margins, he has been challenged before in a primary and may now face another -- especially since the complaints about his petitions came from disaffected former supporters, like Ms. Friedman.
If Mr. Denenberg is on the ballot in November, his guilty plea will be fodder for his Republican opponent. But Republican Party leaders declined to comment on his plea or their campaign plans.
In putting a spotlight on the arcane world of nominating petitions, the case is also drawing attention to Republican practices.. On Monday, a Denenberg loyalist, David Stonehill, gave prosecutors copies of what he called widespread fraud on Republican petitions involving hundreds of signatures.
''I was just outraged by this selective prosecution, more of a political persecution,'' Mr. Stonehill said. He said prosecutors unfairly picked on Mr. Denenberg while they ignored systemic misconduct by Republicans.
The district attorney's office denied playing politics and said it would investigate all complaints.
While the court proceeding was brief, it ended months of speculation in governmental circles over Mr. Denenberg's legal and political fate.
A state court panel that disciplines lawyers will still review his case. But the county district attorney, Denis Dillon, a Republican, will ask that Mr. Denenberg be allowed to continue practicing law, Mr. McCormack said.
Mr. Denenberg's lawyers, Oscar Michelen and Donald Birnbaum, portrayed their client as a victim of revenge from ''disgruntled campaign workers that asked Mr. Denenberg for a no-show job, which he refused.'' Ms. Friedman, however, said she had never held or sought a government job.
While Mr. Denenberg has gained a reputation as a scrappy and even prickly representative, even officials who have clashed with him concede that he is one of the hardest-working of the Nassau legislators.
Despite a four-to-three ratio of Republicans to Democrats in his South Shore district, Mr. Denenberg, the chairman of the Legislature's Planning, Development and Environment Committee, won re-election two years ago by 67 percent of the vote.
''David is a good guy, a great legislator,'' said Mr. Suozzi, who will be leading this year's Democratic ticket and is eager to retain the legislative majority. ''This is an unfortunate mistake. He's owning up to it, and I don't think it will affect his career.''

I dont remember seeing you protesting the home heating tax. Isin't a 2.5% home heating tax amount to more than a 10 k raise for a pol?
That has to be one of the more absurd responses comparing an energy tax to politicians raising their own salaries. I would try to make the distinction to you but I have a feeling I would be wasting my time.
I guess its no wonder the TOH “brain trust” keeps getting reelected with voters like you, whats not to like about Kate and company.

I think what the above poster is saying is that why are they going after 10k when they are not going after a ill advised home heating tax? The tax is hurting us more than a lousy 10k. Just my take.

Putting it simple the energy tax was necessary, raising the salaries of the Town Council members, etc were not.
Now that makes sense

Sounds like another pro-tax liberal response. You can argue the merits of the raise until you're out of breath but the energy tax was anything but "necessary".

The energy tax wasn't necessary? So we have a balanced budget in Nassau County?
The raises were unmerited as they were in 2007, 2005, ... . I suppose a government official raising his own salary right after the election is a conservative value?

What was necessary under the Suozzi admin? Ian Siegel making $150k? Suozzi's NYC political appointees- to name a few- Shomwa, Kline, Suber? Suozzi's flat screen TV's? Renovating the Old Courthouse for 70 mil, while the Social Services building sits vacant? The Legislators having staff budgets of over $150,000 EACH and being able to dole out tens of thousands EACH to their favorite local organizations (Nassau's version of politician's slush fund). Each legislator with a mailing budget of thousands- (Multiply these all by 19). Suozzi's police driver driving him all over the state when he ran for gov? Suozzi's driver, on OT, sitting in the COunty car while Suozzi's up in Dem HQ making fundraising calls? A $75,000 part time job at ARC? Suozzi and Dem legislator waste fraud and abuse amounted to the home heating tax. The tax was unnecessary and the dem passage of it highlighted just how arrogant and out of touch they had become.

It's really quite simple how to join our group.
1) Shave your head bald like the Fordham Baldies from "The Wanderers."
2) Be a past or present Democratic operative.
3) stop bathing for a week or two.
4) hand in some forged candidate nominating petitions.
5) Take a break from your hold over job in Nassau County government to pick a fight with Kate Murray. Then cry like a bitch when the Republicans fire you.
6) Believe Dave Denenberg is serious when he promises you a job in his "administration," even though that job never comes.

The energy tax was necessary but thanks for changing the subject from the TOH. I think your argument is that since Nassau wasted greater amounts of money its OK for TOH to dole out raises because its a smaller amount. I would assume you also support the Oceanside manager making $200,000 after all its still less than the county wasted. Same for Michael Deery at $166,000.
I agree with you on the county legislature and staffs but do you also realize that the TOH council also has staffs and their mailings are legendary, especially Kate Murray and Santino. The 6 council members have a budget of around $500,000 not including mailings, etc. Council members making almost as much as the county at $66,000 with the raise, not bad for a part time job with 2 meetings a month.
You want to talk about staff's, the town supervisors's office has a staff of almost 30 people and a budget of $2 Million! I have to keep reminding myself that this is a town, not a county or state.
Don’t make excuses from the past to defend the present, take each case of corruption for what it’s worth and make the county a better place. Time to move forward, not backward.

Great post!
You are obviously arguing with a member of the well-trained Hackocracy.
Members of the Hackocracy are very cultish. If Kate told them all to pick up roots and move to Murraytown (ala Jonestown), they would.
This Hackocracy is not interested in the feelings of the overtaxed oppressed TOH taxpayer. They jam as many family members on the payroll as possible. type in murray or rottkamp or zafonte or hudes or iannucci. These miscreants will defend their actions by "propogandizing" that they have a AAA credit rating. This is the result of overtaxing us each year and maintaining obscene fund balances. School districts do the same.
TOH taxes have not stagnated! This is a lie! Just go back and look over your last five tax bills. Numbers don't lie. Hackocracy members lie!
The Town of Hempstead Hackocracy must be disbanded!

Between 2003 and 2008 the TOH raised real estate taxes $47 million, that is how they are able to fuel their corruption. They didn't increase taxes for 2010 but hang onto your hats for 2011.
Sure they deserve the raises, it has been a great year in TOH, all those success stories at the cemetary, Oceanside Sanaitation, Zafonte, Kates father, the lighthouse, what a great year!
In a preamble for the 2010 budget on their website:
“Belt tightening” is not a hackneyed term in Hempstead Town; it’s a management priority"
Truly immortal words from Kate Murray!

While I personally support the town leadership, the pay raises were a little too much. Also when considering the annual tax increases, it feels like the town is acting like the democrats. Its time to actually stand for something that you claim to stand for, small govt.
The news here is the mistakes made by the town's enemies. They were right but handled in the wrong way. The focus became on party not on payraises.
