Bruce Blakeman, the Republican ex-husband of Paul McCartney’s main squeeze, is going to announce his candidacy for Kirsten Gillibrand’s Senate seat this weekend.

The handsome wannabe pol — who ran for state comptroller in 1998 — is planning to hold a press conference in Valley Stream, Long Island on Sunday to kick off his campaign, his spokesman told the Post.

"I feel very confident, energized, I think we’re going to be successful," Blakeman said.

He said he’s running because, "I feel the same anger, frustration, and worry that New Yorkers feel with the way things are going down in Washington."

His close pal, former Sen. Al D’Amato will be there to show support, as well as former GOP State chair Joe Mondello, and Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano.

"Bruce Blakeman has always been a dedicated public servant for the state of New York," said his spokesman, Todd Shapiro.

"He’s in it to win it and make a difference for all New Yorkers."

And whether he runs against Gillibrand or Harold Ford Jr, who has said he is considering jumping in the race, is irrelevant, said Blakeman.

"I don’t care who I run against. I’m not running against anyone. I’m running for the people," he said.

Great a candidate everyone can support! Bruce Blakeman is a "great statesman" and will win the Senate seat. He is extremely intelligent and will contrast the differences between Himself and Kristin.

Who is going to vote for Bruce? He couldn't even hold his county legislature seat and has been out of office for how long?

And we are going to have 2 Long Islanders on the statewide ticket? (Lazio and Blakeman)

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Bruce is trying to catch lightening in a bottle, like his rabbi Al D'Amato 30 years ago. Won't happen. Lightening does not stike twice in the same spot.

Blakeman is rooted in the Nassau GOP but currently lives in Manhattan.

D'Amato's only friend is the $$$$$$$$$$$. He'd stand with Satan for a dollar, sorry, He already has! How he has stayed out of legal trouble?

He donated to Souzzi thru his personal PAC. Then Mangano won, a week later he's writing checks to Mangano's campaign, and posting his picture on Mangano's facebook site, as Ed's good friend!

Bruce is a great guy, I hope he's not counting on BIG AL for help.....

Dedicated when it serves his needs. He has relied on political appointments to the Port Authority and was certainly not the most qualified. Sorry to see that he has surfaced 15 years after serving the legislature. He does not stand a chance of getting the nomination. Time to move to some real competitive candidates.

From his resume:
Frequent commentator on Fox News, ABC?? Anyone have any clips?

JD from California Western School of Law? Advanced certificate in Homeland security? Was that one of thes online schools?? Man of the year from Jewish Lawyers Association of Nassau??

Why not put up he won the speeling bee in the 6th grade.

Surely there are better candidates than another Al D'Amato puppet.

You have to pity poor Bruce - his gorgeous ex-wife left him for a former pot smoker who lost out the Beatles catalog to Michael Jackson. Anybody who hangs out with John Lennon is a weirdo. He does garner a sympathy factor. But that's about all the sympathy he will get.

If this is what the NY GOP has to offer as a Senate candidate, God help us all.
Having Tricky Dick's son-in-law as head of the GOP doesnt help, either.
