Is it fair that Long Islanders will have to pay higher taxes in order to pay for the education of NYC students?

Well since any increased funding would be raised by the state through either increased income taxes, sales taxes or other type surcharges, the costs like all current state funding for schools are paid by all NYS taxpayers. so any increase would be on all NYS taxpayers and not just Long Island ones

But the unfair part is that Bloomberg keeps giving $400 property tax rebates to city residents, then wants others to help fund his schools! Keep the rebates, use them for the schools, knucklehead!

Why is that unfair?
As the bulk of the new money will have to come from NYS the property tax rebates have nothng to do with it. NYC will be responsible for a portion of the money and they will need to find a way to come up with that. THat ortion wont come out of your pockets. Just the NYS piece.

If you believe that you are either a teacher or high on crack! I vote for #2!

Obviously you are completely unaware of the court ruling and the school funding mechanism in this state

LI is going to be the big financial loser.
LI is going to be the big financial loser.
Actually the taxpayters of the state will be the loser as all underperforming districts will now follow NYC's lead.

There is plenty of opportunity to pay here, but Long Islanders will continue to pay more than their fair share and NYC will continue to leach off the rest of the state.

You think this isn't going to hurt taxpayers up north as much as it hurts LI? NYC should pay for its own schools.
Are you nuts??? This is definitely going to hurt LI worse than Buffalo.

Give Albany a chance to do the right thing before you jump to conclusions. Nobody said where the money had to come from yet.

Now here's something to be concerned about. Albany will be reaching into your pocket and blaming your school board.

There are good independent legislators in Albany. Give them a chance. They will do the right thing and make NYC pay for its own schools.

If the legislature wanted to do the right thing they would have solved the problem before the courts had to act. Instead, they punted, trying to avoid the hard decisions.
Political football anyone? The new West Side Stadium ads are amusing too. Do we really think the Dolans give a darn about schools either? Let's all do the "Leave the kids in the Dust" shuffle!!!

NYC pays more to the state in taxes than it gets back. Let's play the dollar for dollar game and watch NYC reap far more than the lawsuit called for.
HAS THE CAMPAIGN FOR FISCAL EQUITY SEEN ANY CHANGES IN THE ISSUE OF EQUATING THE AID OF CITY SCHOOLS V. SUBURBAN SCHOOLS.
CAN ANYONE BRIEFLY DESCRIBE WHAT WINNING THE LAWSUIT MEANS? WHAT ARE THE TIMETABLES IN PLACE? WHAT IF ANYTHING HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE RULING?

I think we all bear a responsibility for the future of our children. The amount of resources suburban school districts compared to urban school districts is a crime. Things are abt to change than we'll really be forced to examine our tax dollars.
