View Full Version : Northport Seawall on the Move.

Had Enough?

Anyone look down at the foot of Main Street Northport. Huntington's 1,000 foot seawall at the cost of $$ ONE MILLION $$ is on the move!

Well over 12 years ago Huntington promised Northport repairs would be made. Last year after $$ ONE MILLION $$ a seawall was installed but they couldn't fool Mother Nature.

That's right, it's back to the drawing board. The Wall shifted and they're digging up again.

Low Bid and a union RAT down at the warf.

Is that's Huntington's "Revitalization" or another example of "Smart Growth"?

Huntington, time for more lawyers again....

Any officials for a Photo Op? BRING YOUR GOLD SHOVELS...

The wall may of collapsed and the project may have cost an extra few hundred thousand or so, but Fat Frank calls it a "Win Win" .

Did those contractors and engineers go to Fat Franks fundraiser?

northport will need the new seawall for their ferry service. Rumors i've heard suggest that the whole Gold Star, Coindre Hall scharade with new boathouse and dock for Sagamore is just to make room for a ferry into Coindre Hall dock. Trouble is -if it gets started, how do you control its growth. Interesting - how quickly they changed direction on that after locals found out about the project.

What's the matter with you Northporters? What bad could come from allowing a small ferry dock in Northport?

You're all just a bunch of NIMBYS and JAPS.

NIMBYISM IS A GOOD THING

It keeps out the special interests that that want to change your neighborhood for somebody to earn a profit.

just because I live in Northport doesn't make my opinion invalid. My objection to the ferry is based on what i read in the Long Island Sound Waterborne Transportaion Plan. They specifivcally point out that the ferrys must start out small or local objections may shoot them down. They point out that our NIMBY neighbors in Huntington shot down the Thomas Jefferson ferry several years ago. Once the ferry's get a foothold, what legal recourse do you have to limit their size? The study I mentioned is looking to eventually be able to move alot of people. That would completely change the waterfront of this town I love so well. I don't want norhport to wind up like hempstead. If your best argument is to cal me a NIMBY and a JAP, don't bother trying to read the waterborne transportation study. It's probably over your head. Stick to comic books you MORON.

The pier is leased to Northport from the Town of Huntington. Are there any commercial restrictions?

I'ld like to run my seaplane out of there.

You sound like the Huntington Chamber of Commerce and/or Huntington Town Board

after several years of that smart growth traffic circle in front of Huntington Post Office
I say keep out that ferry. In time they will want a ferry that will transport cars then what?

New to these parts

Careful, the new smartgrowth model is all about condos these days, Good idea for about 10 years until they turnover and become rentals!

It's not your neighborhood. You don't own it. Just a miniscule slice of it. And isn't YOUR profit from the future sale of your home what you are concerned with? Isn't that a whole lotta special interests?

Main St. is all about making a profit, at least for the business' that are located there. Main St. is not every Northport resident's own personal time capsule back to the 30's when life was simple and you all want it to remain unchanged. It's gotten to the point when anyone wants to alter their business within Northport they just start by burning it down. Problem solved, no arguments from the "preservationists."

You want you want you want. What a bunch of whining crybabies.

Hempstead? Where do those ferrys go? How would a ferry bringing passengers from Connecticut make Northport like Hempstead? Are people darker over there?

The NIMBYsm I refer to is the constant, assured, kneejerk reaction it seem many Long Islanders have whenever ANYTHING new is proposed, and the focus of the "antis" on only the negative, which is always exaggerated, and no consideration is given to the positive.

Like : "Northport will end up like Hempstead." Well if you would please explain to us HOW? Is every Northport resident going to suddenly turn black, sell drugs, and apply for welfare?

it's all so obvious

stooopid doesn't live in Northport Village

anytime somebody puts someone down as being a NIMBY rest assured that person doesn't live where the NIMBY person lives

stooopid is probably a wealthy businessman who lives in LLoyd's Harbor where ferries will only be allowed when they build apartment buildings on the old seminary grounds

and houses will be allowed to have accessory apartments

its all so obvious
