Not sure about that. have you seen the condition of the sidewalks on Mineola blvd or the garbage thats put out on Friday or Saturday night for Monday pick-up, and how about all those bikes chained to very pole and sign post there is on Willis and Jericho. tell me these great employees of ours have been told not to enforce those rules.

It's time to get our village employees a contract that will keep them happy. Please do not forget the working men and women who keep our village at the height of success.

09-13-2004, 10:11 AM
Since the last reply obviously came from a person who has no idea what they are talking about, I will answer his/her questions. The condition of the sidewalk and subsequent repair is decided not by the workers but by the superintendant who will do anything to cut corners and save a buck so he looks good. As far as the bikes go, that is another decision made not by the workers, but by the superintendant. If they are told to cut them you be assurred that they will be cut. Lastly, the garbage being out over the weekend is due to the mayor cutting back on weekend workers to due code enforcement to save some money. So, maybe you should save your thoughts for the mayor or superintendant.

Hey, you can not move forward without a full support staff around yourself. Those who believe they can do the job alone are kidding themselves. These employees of Mineola are making peanuts, I think we can afford to throw them something.Take care of the infantry and you will conquer.
Heyoverhere
09-14-2004, 01:12 AM
You state that they are making peanuts compared to where? Give us some numbers, what is the average Mineola union worker making compared to williston park, New Hyde park or even Floral park. Are there health benefits the same? what are we looking at garbage men that go home when the route is done or the clerk that dose a full day?
The Pilot

AAH! The grass is greener on the other side theory . I'm sure with your mental and physical presence you could outperform these clerks and garbagemen. Oh but, what would you do without your cheese ? The cheese your leader feeds you in your office. I wonder if your leader would be interested in some of your dark secrets?

I was just asking a simple question based on a prior statement. I have no idea of what you are referring to. I was wondering what the pay difference was. I know that New Hyde Park signed a long term (more than 3 year) contact about a year ago. So maybe you can tell me how underpaid our village workers are compared to other inc. villages in our area?

09-16-2004, 01:19 AM
Sorry guys but your Wrong I'm just a village taxpayer not for workers or management. I'm asking these questions because I in a way do sign your check, and i am not happy with the way the village looks which is your job. "The its good enough" way of working in the long run coast more. You want more money, better benefits do more. Don't ask yourself am I worth more. the correct question should be is what I am doing worth more. Ste up to the plate do the right thing. would you be happy if you were paying some one to do your job for you? Step up to the plate show me why you should get more thats what a raise was for someone who goes the extra mile dose a little bit more not because you have a union. If you want cost of living raises than make mineola a better place to live!

ive never heard such crap in my life.. this winter is going to be the worst one in a long time.. and for the security
of my family i hope the streets are going to be clean. if money is going to make these streets safer for me and my family then stop jewing around and give them what they want.. forgive my ignorence but if a bald rat means

of work we would string him up.. i hope you catch the rat as you say. p.s. if anything should happen to my family because of this petty squabble.. i'm going to wage

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO MR.HEY,YOU STATE THAT YOU ARE NEITHER FOR THE WORKERS OR THE MANAGEMENT BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE ONLY NEGATIVE THINGS YOU HAVE TO SAY IT IS ABOUT THE WORKERS.WE HAVE GOTTEN THE NUMBERS COMPARED TO OTHER VILLAGES.IF YOU WANT TO KNOW DO YOUR HOMEWORK LIKE WE DID.AS FOR THE GARBAGEMEN GOING HOME WHEN THEIR ROUTE IS DONE TRY DOING THERE WORK ,I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WOULD NOT LAST,AND IF YOU DID YOU WOULD APPRECIATE WHAT THOSE GUYS DO.BUT NO YOU ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THOSE RESIDENTS THAT PEEK OUT OF YOUR CURTAINS MAKING SURE THAT THEY GET YOUR GARBAGE OUT OF YOUR BACKYARD.YOU CAN PUT OUT 20 ITEMS THAT ARE EXTREMELY HEAVY BUT YOU CAN NOT PUT YOUR GARBAGE OUT WHEN IT SNOWS.MOST OF THE RESIDENTS APPRECIATE SANITATION AND HIGHWAY SERVICES,BUT SOME OF YOU ARE JUST SO GODLY AND SPOILED BRATS!!NOW YOU STEP TO THE PLATE.

Hey weatherman please don't show your intelligence level, I am offended by your statement and I am a Christian. So please stay with the issues, the two parties should reach an agreement. Everyone must remember the financial state of the village. Furthermore, the garbage crews do not put in a full 8 hours a day.
The snow removal crews do a great job however, everything should be in reason.

Angel, who's fault is it that the village is in this state? The workers? residents? No, it is the fault of the politicians, and there mistakes. So, when the workers(who by the way keep this village running smoothly) ask for what isn't unreasonable they should get it. And by the way who do you think plows your streets in excess of 8 HRS?
Pork Chop
09-18-2004, 01:38 PM
Thanks beef,I was trying to remember the poster who heard that the road crews were the hold out on the contract. You were right the road crews were out numbered by the other employees.Manchester did you know that the average salary for blue collar workers on long island is 16$ per hour? The postal services and school bus contractors pay these wages, and you know what?they can not hold onto workers.do you know what the starting salary is for the village?11$ per hour.If you make $32,000 a year you can not afford to purchase a home for $250,000.Do you know of any homes for sale under that amount?Like beef states the workers just want to make a decent living. And in response to angel did you know that from the time your garbage crews start in the morning they do not take any breaks?they keep going in all types of weather non stop until finished.I have children, recently after the holiday we were swamped with garbage and extreme weather.we had residents yelling out there doors that they felt bad for us.But it was OK that is what we do,but when we are out working and small children are getting out of school in bad weather with fully loaded garbage trucks it becomes a safety issue.Believe me we can stretch out 8 hour days by taking our time and taking our breaks, but we choose to get the work out of the way asap.So before you start pushing for change make sure that this is what you want.
Pork Chop
09-18-2004, 02:51 PM
Angel I forgot to mention that some of those same guys that pick up your garbage also plow your streets all night long and then get in their garbage trucks and pick up your garbage(remember without taking a break),because they want to get the work out of the way asap.

hey beef sorry to inform you but I did that job and rite here in town. Its not that hard! I worked with the best of them Jimmy V., Kenny W., Harry S., Bob & John and Kevin god rest his soul. If you think the job is hard your a joke, and your proving it by not giving us any numbers on how underpaid you guys are compared to other villages if you want to sell this idea that your underpaid you should be showing us with facts and figures. A year ago New Hyde Park signed a 6 yr contract with the village and Laborers start at about $27,000.00 Floral Park starts at about $21,000.00 for a laborer. So tell us were are your numbers. Also no way should you take me for being on managements side thats why I left the job I wasn't one of Freddies Boys.

Heyoverhere, I don't believe it is as simple as you make it. The starting salary of these other towns is just the base of the mountain. I think you have to base it on where the laborer can be after 5 years with salary. As you state Floral park $ 21.000.00 = $10.25 per hr. New Hyde Park $ 27.000.00 = $ 13.00 Mineola $ 22,880.00 = $ 11.00 per hr. So based on your observation of these other towns starting salary is fine Mineola must be doing well.

Lincoln I understand what you are saying. The prior postings were vague and I wanted to know where the employees stood compared to others like them. I have asked a couple of people about the idea of our own police we can afford them now but what about in 20 years after the first wave of retirees. A lot goes into calculating the pay of an employee that dosen't get printed on a check every other week like benefits, retirement, disability, to name a few. but contract talks as we all know are give and take talks so to get you have to give. I also understand that you don't want to show your whole hand to early in a card game but give us some info on whats already on the table.

The job is hard and physically demanding, just look at the number of injuries. You forgot to add Garden City to your list of towns. Also, do all those towns do back yard pick up or curb? And if you attend Stanford (note the spelling) you should have had a superior response to my last posting. Heyoverhere, so your advice is to these boys is Get Out. Get out like you did, let some other slob take that job and so on and so on. According to you don't fix something that needs to be fixed. I am very happy you were not involved in the decisions this great country had to make. For instance, just look away when Germany invaded Europe, just get another job when Pearl Harbor was bombed, tell Korea better luck next time, remind Vietnam they had other choices, tell the Iraqi people and the men and women fighting for you that this is unfortunate but you chose this path. You only look out for number one ehh? That attitude is going to tear you up one day.

Hey Hook your comparing apples to oranges. Yes I will be the first to admit that I got a little defensive there and a little off the idea. But as I stated before all I wanted to know is how under paid the village workers are. Do they know where they stand compared to others that do the same job. If they are than I am all for paying them what the position calls for weather it is a garb man, parks worker, sewer & water employee or clerk in the office.
First off, according to the Mayor we can't make ends meet this year because it rained too much. Due to the excessive rainfall, Mineola residents did not water their lawns so much and the Village was unable to gouge them on their water bill......What a joke!
As to the Sanitation, I don't envy them their job, but I still expect my street to be cleaner after they drive through and not dirtier. Recycle day is the particular one I am talking about...Hey boys, when in drops out of the can you're smashing on the truck, bend your ass over and pick it up. One other thing, that box that was "too heavy" was brought out by my wife, Samson.
Now, the Jeep patrol. Stop sleeping in the same spot every night. Ya gotta move around and be less visible or you will not get more $$$ just more ZZZ.

I am living in this village 13 years, and I got ta tell ya, only about 25% of the resident vote. Most get on the train and go to the Big City, they don't know what is going on in our Village. Nor do they care. If they did the village board meetings would be packed.
So the bottom line they could not name one village employee. So the egg head that is posting all of the residents are unhappy and things are very bad is complete BUNK!!!!. And Mr. Lemon Tree you can't speak for the Village Board unless your a Board member. And I can't imagine any of them wasting their time here.

Commuter Guy
10-05-2004, 05:53 PM
let's face it- most of us moved to mineola because of the commute to the city and the lower taxes if we did not grow up in mineola.
those of us who travel to the city know that we send our kids to private schools because the mineola schools are not in the top tier of nassau's schools and our taxes were low and it made good business sense.
this chit chat about the beauty of Mineola is just blah blah blah. ( especially if i have to look at a shirtless judge running down my block walking to the train station - Yuck !)
lets look at our taxes that are on the rise thanks mainly to the Colbert & Lou party's inability to manage or villages finances without any standard accounting disciplines. they are and were clowns.
therefore we ( many of the commuters) pay taxes and private school tuition putting us in a category of taxes $6,500 on average with an additional $5,000 for tuition ( not including school donations etc) -- total $11,500
Look at our surrounding villages/communities and see what $12,000 per year buys you in taxes - I would move if my last of four kids is in his last year of Chaminade and I have two more years to retire.
Mineola taxes have increased in the past 8 years at a quicker pace then its surrounding communities - so has its debt. point to make is services will have to decrease to meet the increase in tax debt and labor costs if we do not get creative in creating revenue. Colbert & Lou created revenue by increasing debt making our communities problem now and in the future. any sensible steps the mayor has introduced ( ie Police Dept) get knocked out by the peanut gallery.
Open your eyes before it is too late - Mineola taxes are on the rise and services will drop to meet the demand of the debt structure and rising labor costs.
this is no longer about the village workers as nice people - it is about how much money will we squeeze from the mineola tax payer and how much more can be squeezed.

Why is it that giacomo runs both the highway dept and parks dept? In the old days as i remember it these two depts were seperate. There was at one time a supervisior for highways and another for parks.Today its giacomo who runs both. Its time to go back to having a supervisor for the parks and another for the highway. This would be better for the village because it spreads out the management and makes maintaining the roads and parks and other grounds more effiective. Also both of these depts should be run by supervisiors that live in mineola and have worked for the village a long time. The idea of having one man with the responsiblitiy of two depts is unwise.

You all must admit that Mineola has cleaned up its act with the new mayor. We no longer have problems of restaurants having to open without seats (Subway?) and the village has become much more business friendly. The one exception is the bldg. dept. They don't think they have to do anything for anyone. To get service up there is impossible. In addition, the bldg super, whatever his name is, doesn't let anyone else do their jobs in the dept. He micromanages everything. I've heard complaints from village residents that were also village employees saying the super screwed them on their own building plans. From what I can tell, nobody in the water dept. or assessment side of the second floor will even talk to the clique in the building dept. They should get someone nice in there.

He micromanages everything. I've heard complaints from village residents that were also village employees saying the super screwed them on their own building plans. From what I can tell, nobody in the water dept. or assessment side of the second floor will even talk to the clique in the building dept. They should get someone nice in there.
The service there is horrible
This is all Newsday's fault
It was nice to see a bunch of their people getting arrested - maybe more of them will be gone and it can be a real newspaper.
Newsday will always be a democrat rag
And now they are looking to buy up that free AM New York

I grew up, went to school in Mineola. Not the same anymore. We have all these El Salvadorians crawling about, bringing our town down, time to rise up and ship them out. Go down Lincoln ave East of Willis, what a slum they made

The village looks a mess and is dirty and the roads are bad. Tom
Rini should be put on probation until it is cleaned up.
