We live in Holtsville and my wife leaves for work at 630 in the AM. We live on Blue Point south of the Expressway. Newsday didnt release any details other than the attempted home invasion occurred south of the expressway and west of Waverly. Just curious if this is anything we should be concerned with. Blue Point is a major road, and I don't think anyone would be that ballsy, but at 630AM, you never know. Thank you

I know it's hard to understand because throughout the years Suffolk has been really safe. The police commisioner wants the pd eliminated and crime is up. He drove the police to the ground. Stinks but what are we going to do? I like HBO versus a few more dollars in pd taxes. Even more reason to leave long island.

Here is an idea! Why don't you cops work for what your paid to do, It's great to see how your mode of operation is to do less, and then say we need more cops.

What me worry

Yes, you need to be worried.

-Worried your teenager heroin addicted crackwhore's drug supplier is owed money, and she can't pay it.

-Worry if you own an all-cash business or mostly-cash business, and make your nightly rounds picking up wads of cash from employees at various locations you're not payiing enough to live 4 to a basement apartment. Like car washes, pizza places, diners, card shops, .99 cent stores. They'll have someone tail you to find out where you live.

-Worried if you have a cash payroll because your entire landscaping or pool maintenience business is entirely off-the-cuff and all your laborers know you carry lots of cash, and you've been not hiring them.

-Worried that your jewelry business which involves a lot of cash-no-tax transactions didn't just sell a $25,000 rock to a mobster, and he knows where you live.

-Worry if you just had new carpet, furniture, and a 64" HDTV installed by a bunch of illegal Mexicans or Dominican Republicans who get paid $75.00 a day and don't like it one bit you obviously make $75.00 an hour. Worry if you tipped in cash. Worry if their families back home are starving to death.

Yes, you should worry if it becomes common knowledge to the wrong person or wrong people that you're the keep-cash-at-home type for any reason. 99% of the time, home invasions are planned and the victims are hardly never unknown to the perps.

Hey guy, wht don't you look into doing a ride-along with your local sectoe car operator? It'll be a real eye opener for you about how much time is spent "sitting around doing nothing". Pack a lunch, because you might not get time to stop and eat....

Nowadays, everyone needs to take extra precautions to remain safe. Home invasions are on the rise. Be vigilant, secure your home with a monitored home security system, install deadbolts. Try www.freealarm.org or www.homesecurityalarms.net for a free GE Alarm system.

Alarm systems are useless. They are easily defeated and have low priorities due to all the idiots that set them off because they don't know how to use them. Get a big dog. I've never taken a burglary report from a homeowner that has a big dog. If someone does try to break in you get to watch that big dog chew him up.

be concerned...

Fuck the dog. Get a gun.

Might not wake up or react in time to get to the gun. You might not be home, either. The dog will wake you and take care of the intruder as well. After the dog chews on him for a while you can shoot the him. The intruder that is, not the dog.

I wrote it too fast, and will stand corrected. A nice big dog won't leave much to shoot.

2 dogs are even better.

But the shame of it is why we even have to have dogs and/or guns.

No respect anymore.

Kill or be killed. Wonderful, ain't it?

You know the sad part of it is that crime is increasing. Criminals are not stupid, believe it or not they can read a newspaper and find out that there have been reductions in certain units that target thier illegal activities. I just hope that it won't be my wife that is attacked while leaving for work, as I leave for my respective job a good two hours before she does. You can go and get a gun like most Long Islanders seem to be doing...but where will you keep it? Inside your nightstand... loaded?!?!?! That's fine, I guess, if you don't have children, or don't have children (ie:newphews, nieces, ect) who visit your home or apartment. Otherwise, you have to keep it locked up in a safe, and by the time you realize someone has broken into your house it will probably be too late.
Basically, what I am trying to say is that is we need more police, whether it be NYPD, Nassau, or Suffolk. I have read other posts by people here that have have a grudge against SCPD. Thats probably understandable...they probably had a bad experience with the police at some time in thier life that left a bad taste in thier mouth. I myself have met some cops that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire, but hey no matter where you go there are always ***holes. Cops (and fireman) perform a hard job no matter where they are. I work outside and in different locations around Long Island and I have seen cops that have been spit on at while trying to make arrests(yes people...it happens in Suffolk and Nassau...not just NYC) and responded to fatal car accidents. The job takes a toll on a person mentally and sometimes even physically. When it all boils down, these are the people we pay to protect us and our families. In the last few days we have seen that they can protect themselves, but we all dont have a 9mm in the glove box. So let them do thier jobs, and stop belilittling them on these posts. And to all the Cops, Deputies, C/Os, P/0's and all other LEO's out there... be safe out there tonight and tommorow!

It's what they do. They've been doing it for years. It's always the blame game. Blame Levy, blame Dormer, blame the deps, blame Demarco. These guys make well over 100K to walk through the door and they still whine. They think the world owes them everything. Same story with them, and it's really getting old.....

as usual....

This is a bunch of bullshit! Tell that to the young toddler who laid on his dead fathers chest after being shot at his house in Bellport a year or two ago. Oh, the reason he was a target?! He kept his house nice and his he cut his lawn. Clearly he had something worth stealing!!

Sure... this was a rare incident, a crime of opportunity. MOST (and you know it) home invasions are brought on by the victims themselves.

nobody whining here ,we do get paid well, but i pay a bunch of my salary in taxes and dont mind doing so.i also spend alot of that big salary on my home, getting things done ,employing many of my suffolk neighbors and im glad to do that.i wish everyone could get paid well.the economy would be much better off.many of us well paid well deserved cops were former nypd like myself.we get paid what all cops, firemen ems people,c.o.,parole etc should get paid.
