The campaign of Nina Petraro Bastardi, Democratic nominee for the Nassau County Legislature, will pay you a total of $200 to work for it on 3 days.
*Sat, 10/24, for 5 hours,
*Sat, 10/31 OR Sun, 11/1, for 5 hours, and
*Tue, 11/3, for 8 hours
You would be tasked with going door-to-door...
*on the weekends to make sure people who've said they'll vote for Nina still plan to do so, and
*on Election Day to make sure those who have confirmed support for Nina have voted.
Since each worker will be responsible for one area, the same area, on all 3 days of the job, we are only looking for people who will commit to working all 3 days and have their own transportation.

Give Her credit for fighting! She's thinking outside the box. People are hurting, the economy sucks. Without a Army of Political Hacks to assist her, She's offering a small monetary gift to Neighbors and Friends.
And especially give her Parents credit for assisting their Daughter. It's not easy fighting a uphill battle and knowing your going to lose. Ciotti is a real Professional and well liked in the district.
Being a Traitor doesn't help either, She's made some big mistakes, especially the Westbury stunt!

Sorry. Trying to buy yourself an office - unless you're Mike Bloomberg and it's your own money that you earned - is never a noble thing.

Wait, when she annnounced, her friends were saying we Will win, we Will beat the West End and Joe Cairo.
Now it an uphill fight? Give her credit? Now she Knoes she is going to lose?
She is paying to have people help her. Friends and supporters don't take money.......people from groups like ACORN do.
What happened to those legions of supporters. She had bold statement, and so have her friends, about winning and how they know more than anyone else.
The district has a D enrollment edge of 7,000.
The fact of the matter is Nina and Chris misread the tea leaves. Ciotti, Alfano win because they are in the district and help people.
And as for calling people hacks.....do you know what Chris and Nina have been doing for the lasst 8 years. Chris has had 2 political jobs and Nina has a current 1. You think she got that on her merit? She flew around the country to campaign for Bush and the McCain. She campaigned for Pataki. What do you call this, missionary work.

It's funny that the Republicans insist Mrs. Bastardi is sure to lose but then they spend so much time on here attacking her. I have news for you: This is a free country where people may change their political affiliation whenever they want. Our loyalty should be to our country, not any political party, so the "traitor" jab is nonsense.
I suppose that those who attack the Bastardi campaign for paying its workers are suggesting that no Republican campaign ever pays those who work for it. Oh, please. This is a tough economy (thanks to Republicans), so there are less people who have time on their hands to do political work for free. People can be true friends and supporters without being financially comfortable enough to spend hours volunteering.
Ciotti doesn't help anyone but himself, making money off the wasteful system of special sanitation districts, only bringing one county project to his district over the course of 14 years.
I'd love to know how Unregistered33 knew that certain people holding Mejias signs were undocumented immigrants.
Mr. Jacobs didn't give up on Mrs. Bastardi, as shown by the fact that he was rallying her troops yesterday.

The problem here is that it was newsday that reported that people and money were shifted from the bastardi race to scannel
also it was ninas own campaign that sent out a request for help and you receive financial payment
these things aren't being made up, she actually did them

Let down by what? The only people who are let down about Nina are the Republicans, who are so boiling mad that they lost her. Their loss is the gain of the Democrats and, therefore, of the people.

BTW, the local Republicans never like her and tolerated Chris. Evryone found them obnoxious know-it-all.
Lastly, Ciotti's not paying people $200 to campaign for them In fact, a local dem is supporting Ciotti, because Nina/Chris told her she was a life long democrat.

What are you talking about? Nina never said that? In fact, Tom Suozzi even tells people she switched parties all the time. Let's go to the videotape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mpk9C-BN_yM

In Search of a clue.
Okay, so "young" to these folks is 40. That's a story for a differnet post. Anyhoo, newly minted Nassau Young Republican President Chris Bastardi has a message on the groups website. "BASTARDI BLASTS SUOZZI FOR TIME OF HOUSING SUMMIT" the headline shouts. Seems Chris doesn't like Tom Suozzi. Seems Chris is opposed to affordable housing in Nassau County when he says "Tom Suozzi's plan, to deal with housing is to build low income housing complexes to increase the base of the Democratic Party." Oh, when Chris and the republicans say this, they mean MINORITIES.They don't want minorities who vote Democratic to get housing in Nassau. Funny but that isn't what the Suozzi approach is about. It's about affordable housing for Nassau's young people. Also, republican-led Town of Oyster Bay is moving ahead with similar plans. Hmm.. Chris is oddly silent there.Bastardi continues "Unfortunately, it seems he will be able to accomplish that goal unless we stop his plans now"
Now Chris is playing visitors to his site for fools. He must know (unless he's ignorant) that local zoning boards decide what gets built and what doesn't. Suozzi isn't building anything. Builders are. Suozzi is trying to get builders and the municipalities in Nassau together to solve the youth-drain in Nassau. Why is Chris so against affordable housing for young people? He isn't. He's just opposed to anything Democratic. He'll use the republicans tools of racial code-words and fear to push his own agenda. Bastardi in a special message on the website says "Tax exemptions have been created to assist older residents, residents with low incomes, and those who improve their properties. While these are all worthy exemptions, nothing is being offered to the young people of this county who are just starting out and want to settle down. We are the future and need to demand the respect from our government that we deserve."
Wow. What a liberal thought. Governmnet working to help people achieve thier goals. This is exactly what Suozzi is talking about. But because Chris is a knee-jerk republican, he can't see that.

Its nice to see someone young and not part of the established system running for election. Rather strange to have Republicans complain about paid canvassers while they have employees on the taxpayer dime doing the same. She is a very young and bright person and should go far, hopefully starting with this election. Paid canvassers - is that your best criticism?? Sounds rather desperate.

Nope, my best criticism is that Nina bought a house in another district, she and her husband have received political appointed positions in government, and the fact that she has been through 2 republican clubs then switched to a dem to run in a dem district. That does not sound desperate.

Thats your opinion. My take is that she saw all the corruption in the Republican Party and decided to go over to the Democrats. She did make mention of the favors to Cairo and his son from Ciotta at her press conference 3 weeks ago. I think she got fed up with what was going on in her party.

Unfortunately for both of you, Chris Bastardi is not on the ballot. The election for legislator is about the future of Nassau, not who supported whom for national office in the past. Your desperation is pathetic, and it's telling of how nervous you are about the chance of Ciotti losing.

You can't change your political idealogy because of people in the party. So that argument doesn't make sense. You also can't say someone jumped ship from the republican party because of corruption, and went to the democratic party, as neither party have been corruption free.

People in this country can change their party affiliation for whatever reason they want. Who said the Bastardis changed their ideology because of people in the Republican Party?
The Democratic Party has far less corruption than the Republican Party. For example, Democrats don't try to suppress the vote like John A. DisGrace, John Ciotti, Joe Cairo and other Republicans do.

Mr. Bastardi did nothing to suppress voters. He was asked to do so and reported that to the authorities. It's convenient that you accused him of doing the suppression with no evidence to back yourself up. Mr. Bastardi's proof has been submitted to the DA's office and to the feds.

I didn't say there's "no corruption" in the Democratic Party. Corbin was corrupt but we Democrats chose someone new in the primaries. Really, he actually only went to the authorities after he was overheard telling his "story" at a democratic fundraiser. This was several months after election.
Why didn't he go right away?
Why only after he switched parties?
Why did he tell people at a fundraiser and only go to authrities when he was questioned?
