MTA Police

[Wondering]

Anyone have any information about the MTA Police hiring process? I just took the test but I can not find much information anywhere. How hard/easy is it to get on? and how is the job as a whole? Thanks

It used to be easy to get on....but now since the NYPD has become such a joke...you have 10,000 people who just took the test. I believe they are only hiring 400..mostly laterals.

The job is similar to the NYPD without any of the bs quotas..and A-hole bosses. Plus you have much better conditions Penn Station, Long Island, Connecticut.

Same pay but more overtime if you want it. Only negative is they have a polygraph but i heard its a joke...and as of now time does not transfer from other departments..

I heard from a freind on the MTA that the last test is going to be thrown out due to study guides not being sent to all applicants.

MTA and NYPD are nowhere near the same job! My Best friend is MTA PD so I am in NO WAY putting them down!! But MTA is a much easier job!!! Alotttt less BS then NYPD has to deal with. $ is similar, but alot less stress, better tours/days off, etc. Lots o' OT if u want it. They dont hire much though, 75 was there largest class ever and b4 that it was approx. 2-15 per class. And just some food for thought, MTA hasn't paid NYPD Academy bill so the city gave them the boot. so the next MTA class will most likely be going through an NCPD or SCPD Academy.

I was just told by a fellow NYPD lateral (or rollover as we're called) that as of yesterday, our city time counts UP FRONT. It's now a law signed by the Governor. And yes, it's a great job. The base pay is slightly more than NYPD but the overtime if great. 4 day work weeks/ten hour tours. Good bosses (for the most part). Weekly pay checks too.

I sure hope I'm wrong, but I'm sensing an attitude that's against the MTA cops making the money SOME of them are making. First of all, the cops that are making the kind of money that the paper (and almost 2 weeks ago, the TV news) is reporting, are working their butts off in overtime. Those numbers are no where NEAR our base pay which is only a hair more then NYPD. Also, with all of the security needed in a post-9/11 world, how can you complain about spending some more money on cops? Finally, IF the figure that says 1/3 of the dept. made over 100 grand (which I doubt) that's not a huge deal. We're not talking about a dept. the size of NYPD. It's a MUCH smaller dept. and if you think the extra money spent of Police o/t is at all a factor in fare increases, you're WRONG and I don't care WHAT the MTA says. The MTA has been looking for a scapegoat for their own fiscal mismanagement for years.

I got pulled over one day coming home from work on the LIE going E/B at about the 49 on ramp. I was doing like 60 tops because I saw the MTA cop behind me. He was getting on the LIE at the same spot. So, I figured I wouldn't go the typical 70-75 that we all drive on the LIE. I was basically giving the respect that I know he's a REAL cop like some don't act like they are. Anyway, he pulls me over and starts yelling at me. I mean cursing and screaming. Telling me I was going 80. I am like Sir, I was not speeding, I saw you get on behind me I was going the limit on purpose. He takes my cards and goes and sits in his car, which I gotta say, I think has more lights that the SCPD cars have. Anyway, I realize I know this guy, so I get out and go over to the passenger side window and I am like, "you live in S****n, right? He opens the window alittle more, I said you had a basement apt built a few years back by me and some other medic friends of mine, right? He opens the window all the way. He starts yelling at me, cursing telling me that I better slow down. He gave me my stuff back and I left. No summons, whew! I didn't go back at him but WTF? How does this guy make up a speed and then yell at me. If I didn't know of him, I would have received a summons that I rightfully didn't deserve!

It's not so much as what we do and have to put up with, just to live on Long Island you need to make that much!! A home purchase is out of reach for most new cops who live in the tristate area as it is? Why do u think the quality of NYC Cops has deteriorated over the last couple of years? It's just unfortunate that some departments haven't taken this as seriously as Nassau, Suffolk, Port Authority, and the MTA have.

I must say that the MTA cops are the most useless of all the departments. (Sorry NCPD, SCPD, you guys are pretty useless too). I walk through Penn Station everyday and see these useless fools chatting on their cell phones and trying to pick up chicks. 8 bucks an hour would be sufficient pay for these jerks. The MTA would be better off contracting out to Arrow Security to save us commuters some cash. Thank You, cops are dicks!!!
