So retro, holiday pay, and OT payout will be 20K?
Not bad. I'll buy the whiner a new hat.

I feel that if it was to put to a vote, the membership would say no way to a deal with the little man. Let the arbitrator decide the raise, or lack thereof, and let the little man go nutty.

There is more to this deal then the money. I would love a nice big check too, but there are also a few issues about future job securities involved. We all need to consider these longer term implications against the short term cash value of a one time retro check.

I want a chance to look it over before tubby and the crew do what they want. This job is filled with guys who are more than capable of understanding what a deal is, and I think its only fair that we vote on it.

yeah, I'm sure you are capable of an unbiased opinion.
and while plenty of our coworkers are capable of understanding the present and future implications of the MOA, there are plenty more who aren't smart enough to know better. Just look across this site at all the cops bashing each other by name on a publicly accessible "forum".

How long are you going to let Levy play you on this deal? You know he's just dragging his feet (or did he claim he lost his pen?) on signing this deal until after election day. And then, if he see the line-up he wants, he'll back out and screw you (and the members in case you've forgotten)!
Time to man up Jeff... give Stevie a drop dead date BEFORE election day to force his hand. Tommy isn't going to make a difference even if he manages to get elected. And the support we do have in the legislature will become a lot softer after they get re-elected. Time to push Stevie a bit, he's had more then enough time to make this deal happen! Let HIM explain how he asked for $6.9 million from the PBA... we offered him $12 million, and he let it fall apart!
I know the third year is important to you since you'll be getting the raise on your SCAT pay when you leave next year... but it's time to make Levy EAT this deal or WE walk away!

This posting makes sense! Someone that sees the big picture and the players! Perhaps the PBA should hire this guy as their political consultant! Make Levy make the deal happen or walk away, he's playing his usual game just like he did with the state and the LIE and Sunrise. Time he signs off or he can explain how the deal came apart!

is to get my $70 worth of eats and drink. after years of listening to guys bring up valid points at a meeting,it's discouraging to watch jeff shut them down before they even get a full sentence out. in the board's eye's, the general membership just doesn't "get it". so they keep us in the dark, make very bad moves, and collect all the perks they've gathered in contract negotiations. when's the next elect... i mean appointments?

by perks do you mean:
-dealing with lying politicians all day
-dealing with backstabbing ingrates from within
-having to solve everybody's problems for them at once
-keeping the union from splintering into pieces
-trying to keep their own members from making "side deals" with bosses which violate the contract and weaken the union as a whole
-etc,etc,etc...???
I say they are worth every penny. Besides, they get paid by the county just like you. It's not coming out of your pocket.

nothing comes out of the member's pockets? what's a stipend? why do i pay dues? why is the pba considered a career path? i am for the union, but what i don't like is how the appointed "bored" members treat members when they ask questions that might put them on the spot. did you hear what happened at the sda meeting? lighten up pal, or are you pushing for a pba appointed position too? and if you are already there, remember what you're there for.

I am a union supporter too, but I wouldn't want the job. Its thankless.
As I recall, the board members arent "appointed", they are ELECTED. I go to the meetings every month when I'm not at work. I haven't seen them treat anybody poorly. But I have seen fellow cops in the room turn on guys every now and then.
As for the SDA, they buckled under the pressure from Levy, so they get what they deserve. I couldn't care less what happened at their meeting. God forbid our board gave in on anything to Levy. There would be a riot.
Stipend or expenses? I'm not sure which your mean, but either way its impossible to run a professional organization without both. If you think it is, you live in fantasy land.

I've been going to the meetings for 17 years, and can count on one hand the times people have been "shut down".
Are you saying that we are where we are today in spite of the "very bad moves" of the board? Have you forgotten the last three contracts? We are in a difficult period right now because of Levy and his general disdain for the police dept., not because of the board.
If you are in the dark, then turn on the lights. I am not a union official, but I am a member who gets involved. Any time I have called the office or questioned a board member in person I have gotten an answer. I may not like what I hear, but they always give me an answer. From the sounds of it, you want Jeff Frayler to call you personally and clear all decisions with you first. Just because you dont like the answer to your question doesn't make it a bad answer.
The only people i see bringing up "perks" are Levy hacks who cant argue points on their merits so they try to change the issue.
If you want to ask Jeff a question then come to the next meeting. instead of yelling it out from the floor, do this: while everybody is getting dinner, grab one or two people to come with you as witnesses, walk up to Jeff on the side and ask him the question. if he "shuts you down", then you will have people to back up your story and you can tell us all about it. Otherwise, all you are doing is weakening your own union by posting rumors and unverified claims.
Don't make excuses. Make it happen.

I acknowledged a handful in 17 years. Hardly a trend.
Everybody likes to say "perks" but nobody seems to be able to say what the "perks" are exactly. Maybe you can explain it to me at the meeting. Wear a ribbon in your hair so I can find you.
And I think we can both agree that for $70 the food and drink should be better.

i'm just learning how to type. don't take the caps the wrong way. i'll wear a pink ribbon since it's october. and after talkin to retired board members, those perks made it possible to send their kids to ivy league schools. sometimes jealousy gets the better of me. so when guys just walk into cushy pba positions by appointment, some members might have a gripe. if workin that office everyday is so rough, why not take a breakand rotate with guys on the road? kind of like the holistic effect, cope/pcs backfilling... built in overtime, extra pay, dues paid back.. we don't get that. those are the perks in that office.

most got elected, not appointed. it sounds like you have a beef with those that got appointed after retirements. Thats fair enough. the next election is a few years off, start building a coalition and run against them.
And I assume if you get elected you wont want any of the "perks"?
I think the guys who are in leadership positions in this union worked to get there. Nobody walked in. Even the appointed guys won repeated elections on the pct level and worked their way up from squad delegate. I also had a private sector job prior to my service. I held a union position in my past life. I have had my motives questioned by my peers. It isnt pleasant. I took a union position in my past job because I thought it was the right thing to do. I think our current board got into their positions because they are trying to do what is best for all the members. But lets remember something.
