I hate to be negative, but I'm city cop.
So I can't help it.
Last July 4th I went to the fireworks display in LB.
I was chatting with LB sgt. about his job.
He mentioned the following:
Long Beach has very few vacancies, they fill quickly.
Hardly anyone retires after 20yrs.
They give preference to LB residents.
Lastly, they have plenty of young auxiliary/reserve
cops that they hire first.
With that said.
If you have the extra $50, take the test.
It can't hurt.
Try somewhere else

as copnyc2003 basically said, they have thousands of people applying and taking the test for maybe 3 or 4 positions if that. They give preference to resdents and aux's first, and they will tell you that...it is not something that they hide. So unless you live in LB or daddy is a PO there, do not bother!

Who is the idiot that posted this? Why dont you just tell the whole world there is a test! Dope!
What is that suppose to mean. I did not write that, but civil service exams are annouced you idiot/dope! I gues you are afraid of the competition with the exam. Don't worry Jackie, even if you pass the exam, I'm sure you'l flunk out on the physical or psychological!!!
Jackie has a point....since they only hire like 5-6 cops posting it on the internet will just lessen your chances.
to clear a few things up about some prior postings. first, there was always a strict residency requirement to get the job, but rumor has it they might not go with an all in town list. wording on the announcement is different than in years past. second, aux police and special officers get absolutely no preference whatsoever on the hiring list. they are just like everyone else.

Long Beach and Glen Cove give special preference to people from their respective towns. Sad but true.
Sounds as if, copnyc2003, is an auxiliary himself. He lists many "non-truths". my guess is he just wants to scare off other test takers. too bad his big mouth let 100's of others know about the test.
Fireworks display in Long Beach?
Reserve police force?

LB does have little summer trainee police geeks running around the boardwalk acting like they have some kind of power over you. They write tickets for walking your dog on the boardwalk and your bike on the ramp...typical geek stuff. I have never heard of them giving them special preference. But I have heard of them giving preference to people who live in LB.

I'm in no way a aux cop in Long Beach.
All the info I posted came from a LB cop.
I was just relaying information, so relax
I have no plans to take the LB test.
I'm just waiting for the Jan. Nassau class
so I can jump ship.
Here:
Why don't you take the NYC test in the mean
time? You can take my place in East New York
when I leave for Nassau.
Here is too scared to take the NYPD job, like so many others that just want Nassau and Suffolk. They dont wanna be cops....they just want the benefits.

Eddie doesnt NYPD have Aux officers? Traffic Enforcers? Cadet Program? So the "Special Officers: that LB hires is the same thing, sorry if you got a ticket for having your dog on the B-walk but those are the rules, dont like it? oh well go to the Atlantic Beach boardwalk...and FYI LB doesnt have a fireworks display, Atalntic Beach and Pt Lookout do!

NYPD cadets don't get special preference. But it is a good way to make connections in the department. I have quite a few academy friends who were able to get out of dumpy areas like the 75 and Housing to go to nice gigs because they had a nice hook from being a cadet.
Again...its who you know.

They made the LB test the same date as the Westchester County Exam. Pretty stupid considering al lthe lost revenue they could have earned.

State test. You may sign up for both.
louie

State? Westchester is county. Either way they are both held on the same day December 4th. I applied for Westchester because they have many more departments hiring off that list and most pay the same or more than Nassau.

State or County doesn't matter Louie, you can take them both. The test it put forth by the state every year, hiring authorities (Like Long Beach, Westchester, Glen Cove, or Albany) are asked if they wish to participate. You can "cross-file" and be credited with taking both exams (though you are only physically taking one), you just have to pay both fees.
Only a few authorities in new York (Nass, Suff, NYPD, MTA, PAPD) use there own exam.
Good Luck

I heard It was between 500 to 1000. I crossed filed for this exam and 3 others. I was feeling good until they started asking those stupid questions at the end. What the hell did those questions have to do with the PD. I hope I broke a 90. Are they gonna hire from this test?

I think they will be hiring a few off of this test, not sure on the exact #, possibly 2 or 3, but I also believe some retirements are in the near future for quite a few officers.

are you sure that those questions counted because my classroom prockter said they were for a survey and they didn't count?does anyone know if questions 75 - 90 counted?
376 took the test, they will be hiring more than 2-3, the last few questions do not count. Those questions were for the State Park Police test takers who took the test on the same day Long Beach gave theirs.
LB is hiring 5-6 I was told...if that.

Tests results are being reviewed as there appears to have been a problem in the scoring. Could be another 6-8 weeks
thanks for the info, any idea why there having the trouble with the scoring?

Seems like there was a problem with some of the questions. For 8-10 questions there now appears to be multiple answers that were acceptable. There needs to be a decision on what to do with these questions. Currently in the hands of the lawyers to decide whether to throw the questions out or accept numerous answers.
thanks again for the info,i'll tell you the truth i did have a hard time with some of the questions.it did seem like there were two answers to a few questions.i think they should throw out the questions with multiple correct answers but we'll see what happens.are they going to hire anyone of this list,i mean if only 376 people took the test, the odds are pretty good with a decent grade.
any idea out of the four types of questions which ones there having the problem with?
