Interesting post, but can you run this as TV ad's?

Do you have any money to publicize this?

It's Pontillo and Yaturo was not in the leg in 2000 or 2003

Gotta get your facts right for credibility.

But you make a very very good point indeed.

add fee increases, such as car registration surcharges, ticket surcharges, increases in cigarette taxes and other "hidden" revenue enhancers. There's lots there.

Pontillo was there in 2002 and the vote occurred in October 2003. The tax increase went into effect in 2003.

As to Yatuaro, you are correct. Thank you for pointing out the error. It will be corrected.

Would be more honest if you mentioned the enormous budget deficit's we were facing as the 2000 and 2002 votes took place, as well as the fact that prior to the 2002 vote Nassau County was extremely close to getting its finances taken over by the state, and the fact that the 2008 increase was a 3.9% increase in a taxing jurisdiction that makes up 1/6 of the overall property tax bill that came out to an average of $58 increase per homeowner.

Leadership comes from the top by doing. What has Suozzi done other then blame everyone else for higher taxes and raising taxes himself.

Not that the Corrupt Republicans will be any better than the corrupt Democrats.

What we need is the following rule, anytime a politican's public approval ratings fall below 45%, they are recalled and they must stand for re-election within 30 days. This way the politicians are held accountable for their actions.

I know we all dislike Suozzi a good deal, and there's a good deal not to like, but is the prospect of Majority Leader Peter Schmitt and County Chairman Joe Mondello really turn any of you on that much? I mean, if they were new Republicans then maybe, but come on!

Mangano voted for the 1% tax on home sales, which dwarfs the home energy tax....so, please!

Your point is stupid. Lets keep the tax and spenders in even though they are taxing us to death. Mondello is a piece of crap and he is on the way out. He is not running for office and quite frankly, he is not running any of the campaigns. Stick to the issues, we cannot affort to let the Democrats stay in power.

No, my point is not stupid....Voting out the corrupt Democrat tax and spenders and replacing them with corrupt Republican tax and spenders seems an odd way of getting the Change We Need.

Anyway, it's not "Ed's Tax Revolt"....it's that guy's out in Sachem who's stopped school budget tax hikes dead in their tracks! That's the true leader of the Tax Revolt on Long Island, him....not Johnny Come Lately Ed Mangano, who hasn't told us yet the last time he voted NO on his school budget, if he voted at all!

Are you saying Vote for Hansen? When has Hansen ever attended a tax protest? Are you going to vote for a guy from Suffolk County to be the County Executive of Nassau? Are you saying that you support a County Executive Candidate who hasn't even held a fundraiser? If you don't vote Suozzi or Mangano, there is only one other choice.

Listen, if the guy/gal will effectively manage Nassau County, cut taxes, fix the broken assessment sytem, stand up to unfunded mandates, and end business as usual as we know it, then I don't care where he/she is from.

Its not like Suffolk's problems are any different than ours.

Suozzi was in Merrck tonight and he blamed the economy for Nassau's woes. He asked the audience to come up with where he should cut and was quite dishonest. he asked if he should cut his commissioner of Human Rights, etc. What a phony.

The bottom line, are we better off today then we were 8 years ago? I say no and we must hold him accountable.

The votes you indicated were right along party lines. They need to vote the wishes of their constituents not party affiliations. The votes completely along along party lines should be disturbing to everyone especially in with the dire predicament budget problem for Nassau County. If they were serious they should eliminate the public safety office, deputy commissioners, personal vehicles and chauffers. They have not done one thing to cut costs only raise taxes.

Does anyone know why the Nassau legislature does not post their actual voting records? The fact that a civic group posted the votes reflects poorly on the legislature and the leadership of Diane Yatauro who was also a former civic leader.

WHY DON'T THEY POST?

Simple answer is that it is NASSAU POLITICS AS USUAL.

Suozzi did nothing to change it.

How many more PATRONAGE jobs are there now compared to Gulotta?

What is fixed with the tax cert. department costing nearly $100 million dollars a year in long term debt?

He promised to fix that as it is the main cause of the County's fiscal problems; but he did NOT.

No, these issues not fixed. Instead the debt burden was shifted (very craftily) to both the tax payer of the County (raised taxes) the County workforce ("lags", eliminating positions; defer raises); and anyone using County facilities as he raised every fee imaginable (non-recurring revenue source; artificial income).

Why not tax the 'air' over Nassau County to anyone needing to breathe.

I was confused as to how the republicans got the 42% + number on property tax increases as it did not jive with the actual votes posted on www.nassaucivic.com. While the votes are accurate, the higher number is also correct. The total revenue from property taxes went up due to the change in assessments which are often in the county's favor except for one year.

Tom Suozzi is a liar.

Do you really think patronage will lessen under Mangano? It will just be Republican patronage instead of Democratic patronage.

Does anyone remember the 4 year, 26 % raise that Gulotta gave to the Nassau cops during his final term? I do. That sickened me. Remember the Nassau PBA billboards up over the RR trestles supporting Gulotta? I do.

Nothing short of a real tax revolt by the 95% of Nassau residents NOT on the patronage dole will save Nassau County.

Suozzi, Mangano? As George Wallace said, "there's not a nickels worth of difference between them".

We are screwed either way you look at it.

Now watch the Dem hacks AND the Repub hacks weigh in.

Are any of you turds paying attention to the 23rd Assembly District race?

Kate Murray is a Republican in the way that Roy Goodman & Jake Javits were Republicans. SHE'S NO CONSERVATIVE! She might get in again, but her way is over soon! The poor shlub taxpayers are fed up.

$40 an hour for an 83 year-old man to drool on himself in Kate's office?
She has no shame.

Not one of these TOH hacks will weigh in on that. They ignore it.

Suozzi promised to give up the security detail w/ the 2 Nassau detectives if elected. Tommy was gonna drive himself to work. Remember?

Not one Democratic hack will defend that. Suozzi gets driven to Met games by his security detail. Phony!

How's that for fair & balanced?

hell no!!

All businesses and governments borrow. You can't have a sales tax decrease of more than 6% on a billion dollar revenue source and not expect it to hurt your ability to balance a budget.

Its funny how in the early years when Suozzi was getting all the surpluses he was not given credit by his opponents, who said that he benefitted from NIFA aid and a good economy, but now that the economy is in horrible shape none of his enemies are willing to admit that it had SOME role in the financial situation in Nassau. They blame it all on Suozzi. So when things are good you don't give him credit but when things are bad its all his fault.

The idea of fairness and integrity have all but vanished in the world of politics.

Don't forget the 63 million dollar renovation of the old court house and the leasing of numerous buildings from his buddies at Rexcorp for tens of millions while county buildings sit vacant and decaying due to negligence.
