I guess the CE and PC fianally realized that the D.A.R.E program was really worth something!! Should of never been dismantled. So why not start all over again with a "better " SMART program!! What a bunch of dickheads!!!

Even smarter, remove all gang cops from the local pcts, and have them flood the areas with high profile shootings, because the cops there are overwhelmed, and ignore all the problem areas in every other pct.
The locals perps know this and are living the high life.

Unfortunately, nothing will work until the parents get their heads out of their asses and start parenting their children and actually paying attention to what is going on.

That's funny. Jack Eddington has been taking credit for being one of the one's that helped get rid of the D.A.R.E. program. In several newspaper articles over the last month he has stated that getting rid of D.A.R.E. was an example of how he agreed with Levy and stood by him. Can't wait to hear how he spins this one. What a joke.

How about the cops left get off their asses and pick up the slack for the gang units

you are ignorant..

Its pretty simple. Lets say a guy is selling out of a parking lot. He has his partner or two on the street. When they see the marked unit come, he calls him on the cell and he leaves.
You need unmarked to successfully catch drug deals with any regularity.
The best a patrol car is going to do is interrupt a deal.

We go from 911 call to 911 call, there are not enough cops to spend any significant amount of time addressing ANY ongoing problems. The much heralded bew COPE cgart has destroyed those units to where you have 1 or 2 COPE cops working at any given time, and sometimes they have to fill sector cars. SUFFOLK,YOU NEED MORE COPS....

ohhhhh the hype

Patch work policing at its best.
What a disgrace. Wherever the headline, send pull bodies from their assignment and send them there.
6 months from now do a press release about the 100s of arrests made.
Just leave out the majority were not gang or weapons related, and the majority of drug arrests, are weed, loitering1(bs) possession of hypos and paraphenlia.
not because the cops werent competent but because the pressure from the assbackwards admin was arrest anyone for the stat.
Same thing as the anticrime unit 2 summers ago.

Then how about stop wasting the time we could help out the Gang Unit because your neighbor has his music loud after 11pm (even earlier for his once a year party) or because there is a racoon in your yard at night time (nocturnal animal) or the all time barking dog.

can't do much without plainclothes units. You realize how much crime could be deterred/stopped with more plainclothes cops?

Soooo right you are they tell us at 911 we are customer service entertian every thing and oh yeah, that 10-10 in the parking lot of macys neg pi make that a priority 2, same for the missing 18 y/o from the group home who always is gone on friday and saturday nights make that a priority 2 also. Close a few more cars down on the midnights also then wonder why all the 10-2 from cars happen at night. (hard to go from call to call then patrol your sector) Dog barking call the town, loud music from the bar call the town, 10-72 alarm from the same deli every day 2 and 3 times a 24 hour period no respose list, abandon car in front of your house for a week call the town. Racoon in your house call wild life management. Enough of this police doing the jobs that others are paid to do already let them patrol and do police work no more kissing the publics ass

No thank you Mr. Policeman, we have more than enough already. If we could get just half of them to actually do something constructive while on duty, we wouldn't have any crime at all.

Between all the hours spent at the local Firehouses and all the time spent on line for starbucks, it's an absolute wonder that anything gets done at all. So NO, we really don't need more losers sucking on the county teet without any ambition to do anything.

Finally, an observant poster. While we DO handle a tremendous workload, and continue to make extaordinary numbers of arrests with diminishing resources and personnel, I appreciate that you think we make it look easy. But really, it involves much hard work.

As to looking cool, that does come easy. But I suspect that you are just infatuated with ANYONE in a uniform.

Thanks for writing!
