great job in Bellmore yesterday 9/19/09. where a elderly female dies in a fire because of our archaic system that needs to change.
Bellmore was too busy at a parade out of town boozing it up to be in town to protect its residents. They had to rely on outta town depts to "save the day", and a b.s. ambulance corp to call in a fully involved house upon their arrival for a medic alert (probably was fully involved because it took them 10 minutes to get a crew and another 10 minutes to get there, the lady was probably already dead before they rolled)

Hey asshole get your facts straight.

Call was received as a medical alert ( you know I've fallen and I can't get up) aided case and dispatched as such. No other calls were received either thru the 911 system or direct by the fd dispatcher.

Yes upon arrival the ambulance who also had stand by crews and there medical director in quarters when dispatched to that call only to find the house on fire and called it in as a working fire.

Yes bellmore went to a parade and had put stand by crews in place while they were gone so there was no lapse in coverage. In fact by having the stand by crews in place the response time was actually less then it would have been on a normal day.

The outcome was not good but that had nothing to do with the volly system or the fact that they went to parade.

You call it "our" NassauFDRant. If you were one of "us" then you would know that the standards on that site do not allow members to post information about a criminal investigation. Unlike this site that will allow any asshole [insert your name here] to put any type of slanderous and erroneous information up at any time.

As far as the fire goes, NO ONE called 911 or the FD direct for this alarm. The only call received was from the medical alert company. And when the ambulance arrived it called in the fire.

And, finally, to show how dumb and uniformed you are: There were standby crews in Bellmore's quarters who were on the road within seconds of the call being alerted and the first due truck company [who happens to be one of the best in the County] were able to locate the victim and remove her. It is tragic and unfortunate that she passed.

It amazes me that this site is allowed to continue to exist with so many people posting slanderous and libelous information. Maybe you guys should stick to online porn and get a new tube of Vaseline to keep yourselves entertained and leave firefighting and policing to the men and women who actually have the intestinal fortitude to do the job.

why is the fire dept taken out of service for a b.s. parade that serves no poupuse or service to the public. the only things parades do is allow an excuse for buffs to compare rigs and drink beers. i know i have been to them

depts should not be put out of service to go out of town for this garbage.

at lease there was an in house crew waiting in quarters for the alarm to come in, probably better crews and response than the regular ten minute pager delay, too bad the standby crews didnt know the district as well as the locals should.

maybe paid crews that dont go out of town for drinkfests could be a good remedy to this problem

Now, on point 5 I disagree. Many vollies do NOT want to become paid firefighters, and the reasons are simple:

-You can't drink on the job anymore.
-No alcohol in firehouses.
-No use of the Firehouse facilities for your daughter's sweet 16.
-Accountability.
-you can't come and go as you please, have to commit to a full time job most likely incompatible with your other job.
-You have to meet physical standards.
-No racing.
-No more Chief's and sassistant chief's and first responder, 2nd responder, and 3rd responder SUVs, free gas and free insurance and maintenience.
-No more free Ford F450 hydraulic dump truck with hydraulic liftgate and plow for any member's personal use which the stationhouse really has no use for whatsoever.

No matter what your opinion is of the Bellmore FD, the 6th Battalion or the concept of volunteer FD parades, keep in mind one thing. Keep in mind that because there were stand-by (relocated) fire departments in the Bellmore fire House when this alarm was received, the response and action taken was actually quicker. Had the fire taken place at any other time, the time that it took for the fire service to answer the call would have been longer due to the fact that firefighters would have to respond to the firehouse, get gear on, get on the rigs and then respons to the alarm.

The night in question a fully staffed engine and ladder company (yes from other departments) were on scene in less than half the time it would have taken an average volunteer fire department; to turn out.

Also please keep in mind that firefighters from the ladder company that was on stand by crawled into that house and at times were NOT under the protection of a hose line, and removed that lady from the house.

Sadly the lady past away and no one is making excuses, nor advocating for anything in favor of or against the current system. Just keep in mind that the response was in fact quicker and the actions of some of the first firefighters on that scene were exceptional in comparison to that of many other firefighters in this County.

1 drinking is pretty much extinct unless you are a city clown. Our firehouse is 97%dry.
2 use of district owned vehicle. Correct members can use it with limitations. How about your batt chiefs being driven around by a paid driver.
3 chiefs respond with their state bid vehicles, yes that is correct. You forgot to say that most chiefs are cfr or better. In my department the board monitors the vehicles use thru tracking and our chiefs are not allowed out of Suffolk.
4 Physical standards, another bullshit rant. We have to take a physical given by an outside agency. Fail and you are exterior, at best. Hey fritz, I have seen some of you 12 ounce cowboys in thelocal gym. I hope the next save you make is someone that looks like olive oil.
5 Come and go, the biggest go-ers are the city guys in our department. You know the ones, full of stories, experiance, the big hero that does nothing to help the vollies. Most of your paid guys are the 3% booze clowns. Also, you must maintain a certain amount of points to stay in. Once the city hires you, unless you are out sick and get caught doing construction, you receive a paycheck.
6 the big benifit of being a vollie, besides the satisfaction of helping my neighbors was the big 200 I saved on my taxes.

great job in Bellmore yesterday 9/19/09. where a elderly female dies in a fire because of our archaic system that needs to change.
Bellmore was too busy at a parade out of town boozing it up to be in town to protect its residents. They had to rely on outta town depts to "save the day", and a b.s. ambulance corp to call in a fully involved house upon their arrival for a medic alert (probably was fully involved because it took them 10 minutes to get a crew and another 10 minutes to get there, the lady was probably already dead before they rolled)

but according to our nassaufdrant.com all the posts say great job and kudos even though it was a fatal and had a collapse.

FYI: at our annual 9/11 service we mention all who died not just ff's or pd or EMS.

They knock us but it's all envy. I honestly wouldn't want to be be a city fireman...I take pride in what I do and how good I do it. I give much respect to every Dept. even internationally...we have people in our dept who can't do the job but we use them in other ways so it's a bout people in a town helping their town the best way possible and always trying to improve...

I'm sure I can teach a city fireman somethings as he can teach me some tricks of the trade...
