they gave back two weeks salary which came to $655.00 per deputy. The money will come out of a two week lag.

Better not run out to the Benz dealer yet boys!

Check the facts.... seems now that we have this "agreement" in theory the arbitrator will be taking some more time to figure in a third year... which means he won't be releasing his ruling until December or January!

Then there's that 12 million in deferrals.... well if you do the math figuring the possible raise (about 3%/year x 2) you'll find that the retro, after each member gives up around $6500+, will be between $3000 and $4000 before taxes! Since the retro will no be paid until after January 1 we'll be paying full SS tax on it as well... so after all is said and done.... the retro checks will average about $2000 take home! Not really a monster check! And remember... the county is saving 6.2% on SS tax now by not paying out the raise but having it deferred!

Overall it's not really the great deal you think it is. But would you expect anything less from Levy and company? It's a nice deal for the PBA board.... some of which will be jumping ship very shortly... they lock in a nice raise on their SCAT pay (that third year) and really don't have to defer anything if they leave in early 2010! For new guys on the job... it's a long play with the deferred money!

Take a GOOD look at what the "agreement" says... when and if you ever get to see it in writing.... then make your mind up!

You don't EVER make deals with the devil.... he'll screw you every time.... and no doubt Levy will play this one out and make this "agreement" worthless!

No, those chargers will be drivin by Levys select croonies. They arent going to SCPD. Yeah, they will probably get highway back, but Levy will have them driving beat up spare cars before letting them drive new chargers. So you would prefer we do what? Dig in, refuse to negotiate and watch PD jobs continue to be farmed out to other agencies? 2 3year deals is better by far than 3 2 year deals. When was the last time we DIDNT go to arbitration? Did you see todays Newsday?
He's the CE, he appoints the PC, he will always have influence over the PD. But to have it IN WRITING that he won't continue to dismantle the PD is invaluable. If you can't see that, you deserve to work wherever you get transferred to...
