What is the pay? It used to be on the NCPD Home Page, but its not there anymore...

From my recollection, 23K k in academy, 31k after academy, 36k 6 months after that. Then 44k, 18 months. Then about 5 k per year after that, with a max of 86k after 8 years.

The starting pay is fixed until the contract expires (end of '06), so it gets a bit complicated after the first 18 months because there's some raises that apply to the pay steps after that (this is from an article I had saved from the NYCPBA site last year):

Starting pay for rookie cops during their first six months in the Police Academy will be upgraded from $21,000 to $23,000, but the raises under the contract will not be applied to that salary, and the rates for cops hired after Sept. 15, 2003 will remain frozen at $30,000 during their second six months out of the academy, and $43,244 for the succeeding six months on the job

Pay hikes of 3.9-pecent retroactive to Jan. 1, 2002 and Jan. 1, 2003, with another 3.9-percent raise next Jan.1;

A six-month freeze beginning Jan. 1, 2005;

Raises of 3.9-percent effective July 1, 2005 and July 1, 2006

Police Officers in Nassau County will receive pay raises of just over 21 percent under a six-year contract award issued by an arbitration panel Sept. 14, bringing maximum salary to $92,400 as of July 1, 2006

nypd is a honorable profession. not the big bucks that are out here, but a great experience take that job while you are young, take this test(suffolk) when you can. you cant worry about what losers like above think.this jobs all about retirement, dipwad,got on when i was 21 retiring at 55 well 56, 3/4 pension,full benefits, home in manorville and florida, all the toys i need, and over 300,000 in the bank + investments. 1 kid thru college 1 on her way, fully paid by me. not near donald trump but alot better off than you'll ever be. think about it 75,000 a year pension.
