Yep, it's called civil service test, if youre so concerned about being paid so much as a PSA then take the PD test, you knew how much you were going to make when you accepted the job so you have no reason to complain, unless you one of those Workfare people that were forced to take it a couple of years ago, then I understand why you are whining. I find it hard to believe you are really a PD civilian employee because there is nothing more than the utmost respect and cooperation between the civilians and PO's in the dept. Get real. The point is, the cops are ok, but it's crazy that:

1) there are still some spots where the cops and civilians work side-by-side, doing the same job for different pay (property, court liaison, data, etc, etc, etc).
2) you union guys negotiate contracts without regard to any other union or tax impact. Shouldn't all the unions in the county act in a more teamlike manner? Isn't that why your union went crazy when the deputies union supported levy?

I don't profess to do the same job you do. Is it too much to ask, however, for a decent annual raise? You don't have to convince me. I just went through five years of stalking & harrassment after making a civil complaint against SCPD & Sheriff's. We lost but only because the jurors feared retaliation. It was evident in the courtroom who was in charge. A overpaid arrogant Assistant County Attorney & a sleeping old judge. then of course it was me and the only attorney who had the balls to go against them.

Sure it's an old saying... but come on guys... has the Levy team and all the "change" in the department got us to the point that we're jumping on each other... that's NOT what it's all about folks!!!

I have the utmost respect for our civilian employees... to a person the people I've dealt with in 16 years are wonderful people that do a fantastic job and I enjoy working with them. As much as the moves that the department and Levy have made to sour this relationship I know that when this dog and pony show is over we'll (Both Civilian and Uniform workers... the ones really doing the jobs in this department day in and day out... not the hacks and a$$kissers ) still be here... as it has been through all the changes and administrations in the County over the years. Moves to replace Cops with Civilians have caused hard feelings... but we all saw it coming and the folks at AME didn't turn down the positions when they were created... but this shouldn't sour the relationship our sworn and civilian employees have ALWAYS enjoyed. It's just pennypinching political types and union slugs reinventing the wheel! I'd like to say that WE'RE all better than that!

As for the arguement that civilian employees are doing the same job as uniform members for less money... please think about that for a minute... perhaps daily tasks are the same in some cases... but can you say that these folks are the same as a sworn member? Working weekends... holidays... being called out when emergencies arise... dealing with situations and people that are much more fun on the TV than in person... sure I make a good salary... but I have to deal with the downside that we often overlook... we all get paid for the jobs we took on... and we all earn it. None of us should be unhappy or looking at what the other guy is making or doing... it's easy to get caught up sometimes... but would you really want the job that comes with the paycheck?

We all have different jobs to do... and we took them with the full knowledge of what the terms and pay would be. Some unions have done better then others... no doubt... and in many cases that can be blamed on the FAILURE of a union to do the best possible job to benefit it's members... to say that one union is taking something away from another is silly... it's up to EACH union to make the best possible case for it's members in negoiations... and to keep it's membership strong... please don't let the current cast of characters running the County and the PD tear down the relationship we all have in the department...

You seem to have interactions with the police that are out of the routine. "Normal" people don't have this type of experience. You need to see that the problem is YOU, not the police or anyone who disagrees with you.

I have had plenty of interaction with police officers. In my long driving history I have received 13 traffic tickets. Even though I received a ticket, no officer was anything but polite (of course, I was polite in return, even though I was not happy). And before anyone jumps on me - I learned my lesson and have not received a ticket since 1988.

Many police officers have been to my home. My Mother-In-Law was frequently sent to the hospital via ambulance and the police always showed up, too. Again, nothing but professional well mannered individuals.

Several years ago I needed to have an order of protection granted and served. Several police officers, the court liaison, the judge and several deputy sheriffs were (you guessed it) nothing but polite.

The problem is you Patti, and no amount of bitching and moaning will change that. You need to take a long honest look at your part in causing the turmoil in your life. Then do something about it. Get help. Improve your life. Stop blaming others!!
