Yesterday, the Suffolk County Legislature overrode Levy's veto of a bill to create a public safety task force that would look at staffing levels within the SCPD. The vote was 12-6.

I would like to thank the legislators that voted to override the veto. As others and I have posted, the number of officers (sector cars) serving the Police District have stayed stagnant, while the population has almost doubled. Public safety should be the number one priority of government. Allowing the ratio of police to public to widen is dangerous. I hope that those legislators who voted to sustain the veto will be asked of their constituants why they did so. Some of those legislators represent affluent communities who pay a lot in taxes, but would eventually receive reduced police protection/service if things were to continue as Levy/Dormer would like to.

Now that it appears a task force will be created, I hope that the public will be made aware of the TRUE staffing situation within the SCPD

They would not have overridden this issue if Steve Levy showed them the videotape he received of a highly paid and married SCPD COPE Officer on the JOB entertaining his unrelated married girlfriend for well over an hour at the expense of and the lack of concern for the safety of the Suffolk County taxpayers.

So because he's doin' your wife you have to rat him out?

You were not hired and well paid to hook up with your girlfriend on the J-O-B so you can be home on time to have dinner with your wife and so she will be none the wiser. You were hired to serve and protect, not get your rocks off at 105 grand a year.

I'm thinking somebody got caught with the hands in the cookie jar... I'm also thinking that the old saying about a "women scorned" has something to do with all these posts about this COPE cop... But it's a male Cop and these posts are from the Ex... perhaps she didn't get a good attorney when she dumped his rear (or visa versa)... she got the house no doubt... because if she settled for less and was getting half his pension she'd be a fool to be looking to get him fired.

Keep up the good work Honey and keep reminding us why guys do silly things...

Has nothing to do to with a married cop and his wife on the hunt with her cast iron skillet frying pan that should have gone up side his ego inflated head...It has to do with a Police Officer who was hired to serve and protect and wants a huge increase in salary...Even more so when a wanted known criminal involved in a gang rape is living right down the road from his COPE station, hanging around his dope dealing brothers while this Officer thinks is it more important to take care of his own personal needs instead of those he was hired to serve and protect.

You still sound pretty scorned Honey! He must be some Cop... he has his own "Cope Station"... and how is it you seem to know so much about this guy... what (and apparently who he does), what crimes he should be dealing with, his martial status, and his day to day comings and goings? Perhaps you aren't the ex-wife... perhaps you're last month's flavor and he's now sampling a new ice cream cone... and you don't like it one bit... either way enough with your venom for this guy.

The COPE cops in my neighborhood have been doing a great job cleaning things up. It's the day to day quaility of life issues that effect most of us (me included). When I've called with a complaint it's resolved. And as for the kids making a mess of things while hanging out (litter, loud music, crusing) the COPE guys fixed that too. The cars with loud mufflers and fast cars with the radios blasting seem much fewer as well. I guess the kids know better after they get stopped and ticketed.

I feel pretty "served and protected" thank you. Sorry you have an ax to grind... but is this the ONLY Cope Cop in your precinct... or is he just the one that shows up on your radar?

WHAT THE REAL ISSUE IS THE LEGISLATURE IS NOT SO IGNORANT LIKE STEVE LEVY!!!!!!! THE LEGISLATURE REALIZES THAT THE POPULATION IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK HAS GROWN ENORMOUSLY IN THE PAST TEN YEARS AND THE STAFFING LEVELS STAYED THE SAME!!!!! THATS WHY A TASK FORCE NEEDS TO BE ESTABLISHED TO EVALUATE THE AMOUNT OF POLICE OFFICERS VERSE THE POPULATION!!!!

Editorial in Newsday today has a small blurb that states the S.C. Legislature has better things to do than second guess the police commissioner on manpower allocation.

Tell me, what is Newsday afraid of by allowing a committee to study police manpower? That the public will find out the P.D. is understaffed and more cops should be hired to do the job properly? That their conclusion will embarass Levy and Dormer and prove they're gambling with public safety? That Dormer will not be able to play his shell game with manpower by denying selected communities their police protection (that they pay for) in order to provide increased protection for others? It should be obvious to even the most casual observer that Dormer was appointed for the sole purpose of carrying out Levy's agenda with the police department, which is to reduce manpower and police costs. That's fine, but allowing him the power to deny taxpayers the police patrols they pay for is both dangerous and wrong, and there must be legislative oversight to prevent the manpower shortage from becoming a crisis.

Thank goodness the legislators were intelligent enough to see through Levy's smoke and mirrors. Now all they need to do is push for full disclosure of the tapes to see what our County Executive is like behind closed doors.

It sure would be nice to get the tapes out! Levy and aides are probably setting up damage control right now.

for a rainy day. This is how it goes. Levy will be the bitch of whoever holds that trump card. Not that he minds being treated like a bitch by other men, but thats a whole other story.

He was the bitch who held the trump card when he recieved a videotape of a married Suffolk County Police Officer hooking up with his "play date" on the job while he was supposed to serve and protect, paid by taxes when the Suffolk Cops demanded a huge increase in salary.
