Im an Islip Park Ranger, and we only use the PD radio for emergencies. Sometimes your dispatchers call us, but rarely. Trust me, were not buffing out on PD calls. I used the PD radio once, to call for assistance...15 units showed up(thanks) That's what it is there for. The use and dissemination agreement with Suffolk County states the PD frequencies are to be used for emergencies and for matters of 'mutual cooperation'.

I agree with what the Islip guy says and he sounds like a proffessional but we all know the unfortunate reality. Another Rumor is down sizing of Suffolk Marine Bureau in October. Fact or fiction I dont know? Who is going to take up the slack if that happens/

think about this, who is on command band? who among those commands would just discover that many outside agencies use it? most guys on command band have a few years under their belt. most would have discovered the outside agencies using it years ago. there havent been any promotions, or new classes in the past 2+ years.

I hear the Medical Examiner on command band every few months.....I find that unacceptable. And those parks cops, who honestly are heard the most by call volume on command, they are bad too. I guess command should just close its doors and only let scpd on, as that makes the most sense for public safety!

ON 12/25/01, FIVE burglars went into the house of a MTA cop and stole 3 of his weapons. The bugrlary was set up by his next door neighbor, a first class scumbag that even set up his own sister for a street robbery when she brought the receipts from her father's business to the bank.

The Glorious SCPD detectives would learn of this and would never bother to tell this POS MTA cop that his own neighbor was responsible for the burglary of his home. I had to track the guy down and tell him who did this to him and his family. So shaken by this crime, the cop and his family sold their home and moved to another neighborhood.

Why in hell wouldn't a cop tell another cop that his next door neighbor robbed his home?

Far as I know the weapons have never been recovered, and the detectives investigating this case never bothered to give him a heads up.

You know what moron....blame your command staff for the radio procedures. In the 90s they went to us for dispatching. All we do is dispatch for them. A family memeber had their bag stolen at a beach and called 911, it went to SCPD CMND and they were there in no time, 2 cars and a guy on a bike. Only 3 guys working at the beach and they scoured the area and got the pocketbook back. They work and I'll give credit for what they get paid, I am an SCPD

Just for the record command band and the 5th together on the midnights is not due to personnel shortage. Still the same amount of dispatchers as before just someone showing he's the boss and can do what he wants. Until someone gets hurt or killed due too to much radio traffic between 5th, marine,aviation,es,parks,980 units,k9, and whom ever oh well save a few dollars now pay out a few million down the road.

Emergency Services and K-9 are the ONLY real users of command band and they can be on the pcts.

Park Police have a band already and we know that SCPD scab their jobs anyway,

COMMAND MUST BE DIS-BANDED iT HAS OUTLIVED ITS USEFULNESS.

There may be no more Highway sectors or MC however you still have Motor Carrier and Safe-T. There is Aviation, Crime Scene, ES, K9, and a few other unitsas well as Parks or the Deps requesting an assist from ES Aviation.
In addition Command is the frequency outside agencies, State, Feds, et al, use when contacting SCPD.
So no it has not out lived its usefulness.
