Most were city cops or sgts?.....I don't think so a--hole, There is only one Sgt. in this class and three guys with military experience over 5 years. old man winter is right, this job statred going down the shitter when we dropped the maximum age requirement of 29(at 29 you were no longer eligble except for the addition of 5 years military). Very few had to use that option because they were smart enough to pass a competative test and score high enough on the list to get reached on their first or second try!....So the old guys are doing better than the young guys, and you know this after how many days?... Come on the job at 40, Oh yeah, your going to look forward to pushing a PD at sixty(which is when you can retire) unless you other time credited toward your pension. By the way, I was a City Cop and still got on Nassau at 25 and half my class 18 years ago was city cops.I believe the oldest was 29 and had 3 years military. So, Go back to your books and keep bracing those walls rookie!

Big deal...if you were a city cop you would realize how bad it is and that many of these guys with many years in the city want to provide a better living for their family so they come to Suffolk/Nassau/MTA....many of these old coots are miserable. Its unbelievable. You don't have to kiss my ass when I'm new, on your job, but a simple good morning or good evening when I relieve you, on time, would be nice.

I never bash new guys unless they are cocky. I'll never get the no hello types or cops who don't talk to new guys o na call. Thats not cool. You have to work with these people everyday and they may save your life someday.

Just a thought....if you're 40 now and you retire at 60 that's still much better than most people I know in all other professions. I'm not in this class, but I was in my thirties when I went through and its just silly to suggest that there's something wrong with that. One of the guys in there right now is my neighbor. He's NYPD and he tells me the young guys are in worse shape than the old guys. He's rock solid. You want lazy kids relieving you my friend?

You really don't need to be young to do nothing. This nonsense is funny.

I'd take an NYPD cop with 10 years on of real police experience and over 35 over a 21 year old wise ass anyday.

Seriously, if you want to be a police officer why would you want to join the NCPD? They don't even know how to write a friggin summons out there.

this thread is awful.

01-22-2007, 12:26 AM
yes let this thread die. go on with your lives, don't wait, if you get called, then good for you.

Nassau is changing fast --- not as good as it used to be. Sure pay is OK and there is benefits, but can do much better in business world with a good education. The bosses suck. The brass forgot where they came from. And too much public scrutiny.

i think he meant to say cop. and the answer is yes...but women will latch on to you for the benefits and the coin, and then if you piss them off enough, they will call your command and say that u pointed your gun in their face. Just a nickels worth of free advice. By the way...who is TOOL who asked about getting his gun. That statement scares me...even if it was in jest, you get into a shooting...trust me, you'll never be that unhappy ever again in your entire life while that fiasco is goin on!!

Women and alcohol. Two of the biggest dangers to a cop's career.
