To make it worse, Suffolk as well as Nassau and NYC did not receive money from the program/ grant (whatever you want to call it) to hire new officers....

How many cops there are have little to do with crime rate, but alot to do with how many crimes are solved.
And just so you know nyc has a crime rate of 2300 compared to suffolk 2100 not all that low...nassau has 1500

We need more cops, we need more supervisors, we need more cars, we need a lot of other things too. Don't count on the current regime to do what's right for public safety. They will, however, continue to print "Accredited Agency" on every blank space they can find. Don't stand in one spot for too long.

Yeah, that's a real joke, with barely any real crime in most areas. Just look at the horrible carnage on the LIE that the scpba predicted when the deps took over. In fact it's so bad they're about to close the road to save lives.

Whenever you hear 'public safety' it's really about union jobs.

Thanks for bringing up the crime rate so I can again show how high the crime is exactly.
now just to put things into persepective, richmond county aka staten isle has less then 1/2 million people. suffolk has 1.5
their crime rate is 700 less then sc. There are 4800 nypd assigned there. All in all including east end there are 2500 cops here.
Nassau with 200,00 less population and 600 less crime rate has about 600 more cops.
notice the rise in crime from 07 to 08...200 increase. Expect that again for 09
Like my name says you be the judge

Sure, you can spin the 'stats' any way you want, but anyone living in the real world knows how little TRUE crime there is in suffolk. Mostly BS misdemeanors included to pump up the numbers. No one with a clue believes the rate is higher in suffolk than Queens.

Not only is it higher its significantly higher, and there is no spinning here, that would be at suffolk county hq where they are trying to make it appear favorable.
Whats significant is the rise in crime, not that its drastically higher, but it is higher. Not a good trend

As a cop who spent 12 years in the 110, 105, and 108, and came out here, I'd say you were wrong.
I'll go further and say, there is 1.5 times the population in queens then suffolk, and yet almost 3.5 times the number of cops working there not including the outside agencis like mta papd.

Are you referring to 511 arrests again you know mandatory in queens no matter what level as opposed to only felony in suffolk county?
how about suspended reg, a ticket only offense in suffolk but a arrest in queens?
How about facilitating agg unlicensed? A summons only in suffolk, but again arrest in queens?
switch inspection? switched registration, fail to surrender revoke license, fail; to surrender revoked plate? Suspension sue to insurance lapse?
All of which are mandatory arrests in nypd, and tickets in scpd.
Keep it coming scpd basher....I could do this with my eyes closed

lets break it down

You want to go felonies?
suffolk had 7800
Queens has 13500
roughly 1.7 times as many felonies crimes.
Population
Suffolk 1.47 million
Queens 2.25 million
1.52 times as many people.
Police
suffolk 2500
Queens aprox 8000
Roughly 3.2 times the cops.

biggest difference is that between 04 and 08 crime in queens has dropped by 2-3% a year
since 04 crime has risen from 6800 felonies to 7800 felonies in 08 in suffolk

PS. I cannot say that every cop on scene just stand around, I would say about 75% were on their hands and knees doing CPR / tending to a patient. The remaining officers looked more like some kind of news reporter collecting data on the patient.

In other words a vollie, if you are even telling the truth there.
I've been a cop for 15 years in a busy sector, that covers 3 separate fire districts. Between me and my other sector operators we get about 2-3 cpr in progress calls a year. Thats about 10-15 a year. At most 5 a fire district
and here you are a simple vollie, not a paid paramedic, whos claiming several dozen cardiac arrests, where the patient not only needed to be defibbed, but where scpd didnt "do something".

First off dick head if you didn’t notice I was not bad mouthing you shows how adult you are NOT, no wonder you’re a Suffolk cop. Second off if you were in a busy area like the area Sayville Community Covers Or Brentwood and so on you would see A LOT more CPR calls so go shit in your hat and realize when someone’s busting on you and when someone’s standing up for you. To the officers that help THANK you to PRICKS like this guy why don’t you retire because you are NO help to the public you are in it for the wrong reasons

ems calls suck.surrounded by 20 vollie buffs all with misinformed opinions. tell me "know it all", with the limited equipment the county has given me for the wide variety of ems emergencies, what would you, the one with all the knowledge on how to do "my" job, like me to do? i'll assist a fatty back into bed, or throw some o2 on someone's face, at most hook a defib up and press the button, but beyond that, i'm gonna just stand there and get their name and dob. if i wanted to be a medic, i wouldv'e joined an ambulance company. is that a good enough reason? now go get that ticket your sister got and bring it to the 43 and let me see if i can take care of it,AGAIN,for you...... ungrateful fucks....

This is funny, we all get angry and spelling / typing goes down the crapper. The point is like someone said, some are in it for the right reason and others are not and should retire. Emergency service is important and the public deserves the best we can provide. Yes there are a lot of 911 taxi rides and many times for the wrong reasons but still according to guideines they warrant transport to the hospital. It's sad how a system can get over burdened. However there are no excuses for some of the things that go down.
