What was not reported is that the car was spotted by a Deputy Sheriff checking the airport grounds as is part of his patrol function for over 9 years now - since 9-11. He found the suspicious female taking photos of the Air Guard entrance and monitored her for some time until her actions caused him to conduct a car stop on her. As he approached he found her in possession of two fully loaded weapons. An AR-15 and a Pump shotgun. I guess there are other Police Officers in Suffolk County who are at risk while doing their jobs. Wrong again skippy. The Airguard now calls the sheriff's office directly for any Police assistance. They have been doing this for many years. The quote from the base commander was that they were sick and tired of SHTPD taking over 2 hours to respond to anything. Just like most businesses in Hampton Bays call the state PD directly so they do not have to deal with the townies.

Funny you say that...seems to me like the East End PD's should be more bothered over the fact that SCPD detectives conduct investigations on crimes on the east end. This has a much more detrimental effect on those po's than the deputy making that arrest. The East End Departments don't need to have any more units then they have. SCPD is more then capable of doing all the jobs we do for them!!
East End Departments, especially Southampton, are some of the biggest SCABS! They have more part time cops then any Department in NYS!

Wrong again SCAB (tryin to start trouble). What we have is equivalent to the SCPD's general squads in the pcts. It would be pointless to have our own homicide, arson etc, because of the rare occurences. To be proficient at these cases you must investigate them routinely.

By the east end towns having their own pds, and by managing their own dept, it actually costs jobs, as they do not provide the same coverage as scpd. Riverhead has 4-5 cars...if that was part of scpd it would have 10+

The county charter that set up the police districts provided a centralized service for these specialized units. As policing advanced these depts either agree to use the services of scpd or get their own. There is no law or rule saying any town has to use scpd's services.
When a town hires a cop it uses scpd's list, and most of scpd's applicant investigation, and academy to check and train the po. As they are interviewed it is explained to them that they will have a great career but never be more then just a po. They have the option of taking the job, or waiting for scpd. Or after getting on taking the test again and becoming scpd.

well for k-9 to be effective he has to be tracking within 5 minutes of incident. for a dog to get from scpd hq to the western most town is a minimum of 15 minutes.

It used to be-do a prisoner transport to Rikers then my partner and I could get lost for the rest of the day, but some of these guys with a few years on think that this could lead to something big. They can't get it through their heads that once Levy is gone that the gig is up and they'll be back to doing what they should be doing and the county will be in shambles.
