Probably because there is little commercial ie. industrial tax base, the homeowners, who are middle class, must carry the bulk of the expenses for the schools. The East Meadow Schools and their teachers are some of the finest anywhere (your art and music programs) are the finest.
If the county land ie. parks and jail along with the hospital would share more of the responsibility your salaries would be fairer and the expense would be more equitably distributed among those taxed.
