View Full Version : Superintendent of Farmingdale Schools
A tired parent

I know I am not the only parent fed up with how Farmingdale schools are run. The middle school has a principal that in inept to say the least. To make matter even worse the superintendent refuses to meet with parents. She tries to pawn you off to others, and uses her secretary as a guard not to even allow a parent to talk to her. But don't we pay her salary? It's a bout time the concerned citizens of Farmingdale know what is really going on in these school and not let these problems be pushed to the back burner. They are worried about their salaries not how the kids are treated in the least. Again a sad state of being these Farmingdale schools. To this neglect of children I thank Ms. Gerold and Mr. Pena. Congratulations for not caring about the kids only your pay checks.

We were glad to get rid of her from Miller Place. Enjoy.

She is one in the same. I can only hope she leaves Farmingdale and real soon. Time to go to the board and report her. Maybe Newsday and the TV news they do have education reporters, let them investigate her incompetence.

What you need to do if find out if there is a civic in Farmingdale. If there is see what they think about the Schools, and hope that they can help you out. 5 to 10 people coming down on her will wake her up. Good Luck!

and go to the school board meetings!!Prepare a list of your questions and give each attendee a question to ask. Demand answers in a public forum. Parents often fear retaliation. Not true!!! It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Good luck.

I'm more than tired of her banter. She refuses to meet with parents and her secretary said that is what she has people under her to do. Incompetence breeds more incompetence. Seems I need to go to school board meeting and go with a petition signed by other parents as disguised as I am over her collecting a salary for what? Refusing parents rights and allowing child's to be ruined. Some educator she is. Another I only care about lining my pocket with money.

I, for one, never have a problem seeing or talking with Dr. Gerold. Her office door is always open to me and the parents I know, so what you write is a surprise to us. My sister-in-law, by the way, lives in Miller Place and says Dr. Gerold is missed. Go figure!

Hey Bailey or is it Infoman?. We will miss her when she is gone also. But she has to go Get your self a copy of the Budget and take a look. You will say the same thing we are all saying. As for the Farmingdale Civic, I thing all they care about is the airport

I for one have also NEVER had a problem with the accessibility of Roberta Gerold on several issues. We have had telephone conversations AND met face to face. I also have never had a problem speaking to the Howitt Middle School principal. I do however agree that the budget is a concern. I have decided to be diligent about attending Board meetings and listening and questioning more than I have in the past. We need to encourage more people in Farmingdale to do the same.
IMHO, the CCAF civic organization is concerned with MORE than the Airport. They, along with the citizens of Fdale and the Town of Oyster Bay, managed to get the Liberty Superfund classified for cleanup. They also are focused on the proposed Stop and Shop deal on said site. For more you can visit the website at www.ccaf-civic.org.

is to atend Board meetings and voice your opinion. BTW. I think that her contract was renewed this year for either two or three years.
Also, there is a Schoiol Board position open for appointment as Marie Collaluci is retiring. Anyone who is a resident of Farmingdale, a voter and can read and write may apply by sending a letter to the School Board by Friday, August 6th.

The meetings are usually the third Thursday of the month. Next one is in Sept. Check out the website and the Observer has had several stories on CCAF in the last couple of months.
You can read featured stories by going to fdale.com and clicking on NEWS and then the Observer. They even have archived issues.

:"> So who gets punished no and to boot it didn't cost the district a penny but to teach the residents a lesson they cut something that is good for the kids. Not personnel not the high teacher salaries, but lets take away from the students. If there are fewer students there would not be a need for all of these experts the district has. What an idea, but one extra kid in the class and rid us of some dead wood.:"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :">

I don not know where you got your "old" info from, but the Driver's Ed program this summer IS self-sustaining. One of my friend's son is taking it. They had to "pre register" and make sure they had enough money, before the program was allowed to start.

Summer drivers ed was reinstated as was suppose to be driver's ed this fall/spring. But, as stated by Dr. Gerold it was taken off the budget when it wasn't passed the first time, even though it was/is self sustaining. It costs the tax payers nothing and by doing this is shows that the kids come last once again. The KEY WORDS HERE ARE SELF-SUSTAINING but it won't be offered again cause the original budget was voted down. Again I say who is punished no one but the kids by the uncaring people who run the schools. My son will be forced to take it at either Wantagh or Plainedge by the way which is about $100 less then Farmingdale was charging so who was making $$$ off of driver's ed??????? So again if your child could take it this summer they were lucky we had a vacation already planned for 2 weeks and my son couldn't miss one session so it was a no brainer he couldn't take it but would in September, but alas the kids gets cheated out of something good once again. Thank you to the Farmingdale Schools District for caring only about yourselves not they kids which is why you have your jobs. :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :"> :">

So I am figuring you will be at the next School Board meeting voicing your opinion to the Board?? Or is just your place to rant and rave?
I am not ALWAYS pleased with how this school district has handled different things, but I have ALWAYS said my peace. Sometimes it went the way I wanted it to and other times not. I think there are a lot of other people in this community that would love to know that there is no longer a "self-sustaining" Driver's Ed program for their children this fall.

This is from Life long Republican post
The self-sustaining driver education program, which was to be reinstated under the original budget as a tuition-funded program, will also be eliminated.
Driver education is gone The price was $40,000 on its budget line. With 0 to be paid by the taxpayer.
But the costs associated for administrators and board members attendance at conferences and memberships dues for professional associations is $104,000 Yes $104,000
THEY ALL HAVE TO GO!!!

the tax levy for for TOBAY is 11.8%. Town of Babylon is a little less. So, yes it is different than 8.8%. Is this due to the decrease in State aid? I am not quite sure I understand how they arrive at that figure.
Anyone have a reasonably easy to understand explanation?

The Board of Education would like to thank the applicants who have generously offered their experience and time by volunteering for the position of trustee for the 2005-2006 school year.
As is our practice, each Board member chose three applicants that they would like to interview. This is evidenced with a "YES" vote. The top three applicants chosen to be interviewed are the ones that have received the majority of "YES" votes. This process was completed on August 1, 2005.
The following applicants were chosen to be interviewed:
Shari Bardash-Eivers
John Miller
Phillip Cappello
Due to scheduling conflicts, vacations etc., between applicants and Board members, the interviews will be conducted on September 8th.
After the interview process the Board will vote and the individual that receives the most votes will be appointed to the Board. Baring any unforeseen circumstances, the applicant will be chosen immediately following the interview process.
Again, the Board thanks all the applicants for expressing their desire to serve the Farmingdale Children by expressing a desire to be a member of the Farmingdale Board of Education.
