Garden City School District

The Garden City Board of Education re-appointed the firm of Miller, Lilly, & Pearce to serve the district as the independant auditor for the 2004/2005 audit year, despite the firms involvement in the two fraudulant cases of management stealing taxpayer funds intended for the education of school children in the Roslyn and William Floyd School districts.

The Garden City Board of Education and finance team went out of their way to retain Miller, Lilly, and Pearce as the independent audit firm inspite of public concern and went out of their way in the Garden City News Article as of Friday July 9, 2004 to explain why they should continue with the firm, and why Miller, Lilly, and Pearce had no responsiblity for "detecting" the fruadulant activities.

This action raises strong questions about the Garden City School board and management's integrity in putting the public interest of the students and taxpayers ahead of the public interest?

Why do they want to retrain the auditors for Roslyn and William Floyd, when their are hundreds of more reputable firms on the island?

Any thoughts on why?

Which other school districts are using this firm?

"concerned" ? When the GC News front page 2 weeks ago featured the board president defending the firm of Miller,
Lily and Pearce, indicating a renewal of their contract would take place the first of July, where were YOU? MANY of us wrote to the Mayor who is usually right on top of things - and to folks on the board - having to remain nameless because several of our wives teach in the district, and could be faced with "embarassment". Monoghan obviously talks loud and long enough to get HIS way. Last week his justification was expressed by insulting the board in Roslyn who were "looking for a cover". This week his justification was to put blame on Roslyn's and William Floyd's internal auditors. Miller also audits Three Village - another undetected loss. So I guess 3 internal auditors are all incompetent, and the very competent outside auditors of MLP bear no burden of mistake or guilt! But my dear friends and neighbors of GC just sit back and let things happen until AFTER the fact when they express "concern". Our community gets what it deserves because of complacency and Monday morning quarterbacks! Wake up Garden City!!!!!!!!

We have used Miller and co. for 14 years. This is not good business. I do not want the auditing firm becoming friendly with the school staff. We have only one school (new one on the way) and very small staff. I believe they have done a good job with our school budget and we need to have safeguards in place. It is time for a change, bring in new audit firm and rotate every 3 years.........The auditor was asleep at the wheel in several school districts, go to Roslyn 1 page 2 user name Roslynny, you will find out where it all started.

Check out their address... same as Miller Lilly. So the auditing firm also provides the financial software. Roslyn and William Floyd use Finance Manager and have Miller Lilly Pearce as their external auditors. Can you say CONFLICT OF INTEREST??

Unbelieveable info...thanks! I live in a village close to GC. I do attend bd of ed meetings and I plan on finding out about this software. Hopefully, after all these scandals, Long Islanders will wake up and DEMAND accountability and responsibilty on the part of the district administration!
Our tax bill may lessen as a result!

In light of the indictment of andy miller of this auditing firm who probably cooked our books to how do we ensure that the auditors in there now are (1) competent and (2) Reviewing what was "supposedly audited" in the past to ensure there is no malfeasance.
