I know there is no money being spent on hiring county wide especially police officers, but does anybody know of any real savings with the Suffolks cops leaving the LIE or with civilian staffing thus far? Are there any real saving numbers to look at considering the O/T the Sheriffs are spenting to meet the task of staffing the LIE.

There is no savings if they can ever FOIL the records(which they still have not given to the legislature) you would see this is polictal corruption at it's worst to a union that backed him. Read this great job Steve http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-lifire1912983105jul18,0,5860389.story. This is the epitomy of stupid behavior or just another SCPBA lie? The Legislature said they will abide by whatever decision is reached at the PERB hearing, (like there was a choice anyway?). The Legislature also said they would like to see a full year of numbers before making an "informed decision" as to whether this is a cost saving measure and whether the SCSO is doing as good, better, or worse on the Highway Patrol than the SCPD did. Here's a number Newsday wasn't provided by Jeff Frailer; In the first six months the Deps have the HP they have changed 204 tires for citizens who have traveled these highways. The SCPD numbers for this -0 (ZERO), why? Because the overpriced, overpaid puzzy's do not as a general rule change tires for their taxpayers!

So you Frailer fluff boys can continue to Blog, write "anonymous" pamphlets, etc. to NO END. It does not matter one single bit, at the end of the day the PERB case will decide who stays on and who remains off the highways. Yes, sorry to say for you PBA azz kissers, this will be decided in a fair and honest forum and without the usual SCPBA pandering, arm twisting and political blackmail. Just one honest Judge, (who by the way seems to have a disticnt dislike for the SCPBA and the crew they have marched through the PERB hearings so far).

202 tires changed? Big whoop. I guess they're trying to get into the tow operator, auto club, and DOT motorist assistance business also. Beside, does anyone really believe that after their "honeymoon" period, the deps are going to be changing anyone's tires?

Highway assisted plenty of motorists. They just didn't pat themselves on the back and put out a press release every time.

Is that because maybe the DS pulled CC's themselves? Instead of just changing the tire? You have to be a moron to think just because the SO went to the LIE people started calling 911 for a flat tire or a disabled motorist. Come on now. Sounds like the DS just pulling cc's to pick up their numbers.

Interesting how you ASSume that the Sheriff's Office is working even one hour of overtime on the Highway since the Quarterly numbers won't be available until August? I guess you are just one more FRAILer / PBA "FLUFF BOY" looking to stir the pot with rumors, ASSumptions, and outright LIES! Nobody will know if this is an accurate cost saving measure until the Deps have been properly trained, (training with the State Police was completed in April), and after they have been on the Highway for one full year. Then and only then can we take an HONEST look at the numbers and see who is cheeper. I will go out on a limb and predict that we will find that the SCSO is far cheaper overall than the SCPD for the same services. But, I'll wait for the numbers in April 2010, then I'll decide for myself who is cheaper.

I guess the Deps were too busy changing flats to be ENFORCING the VTL on the highways.... seems that's the job they're being paid for! It's nice to help out a motorist... but most should be able to change they're own tires... we NEED THEM WRITING TICKETS AND MAKING ARREST FOR DWI!!!

If they're going to make their main function "road assist" calls and document them to justify their time away from doing the job they are there for we can just have a highway H.E.L.P truck up there with a 21 year old kid making $25,000 changing tires!!!

Even if the deps made the same as SC wouldn't it still cost the individual taxpayer less? Since sheriffs budget comes from the general fund paid into by everyone not just the 5 western towns. Not to mention they get a piece of any back taxes collected.

Also, people call AAA for tires not 911

The only way it costs less is if a scpd was fired. If you move him around and the deps around the cost is the same.

18.5 disabled motorists a day for 10 months?
So in the past 10 months disabled motorist calls have gone up 300%??
Thats funny, foil has the average number of d/ms during the last 5 years of scpd hwy and the annual number has never been 3000.
When you lie in the future you should really think a bit before you post, because when you make something up this farfetched, you sound very stupid.

Yeah ok, who is the idiot that believes a press release would alter anything.
SCPD hwy wrote 50k tickets a year, and 25% of all the dwis in Suffolk pd.
The deps will never come close.
Levy has a grudge against scpd, and wanted them off hwy. Thats the bottomline

I want a tax refund, not EXCUSES and smoke! If this was really about you forcing the state to cover THEIR roads you'd pull county employees off the road and refund our taxes, but I guess we know that's NOT the real story, don't we you gay midget!

Yeah thats it, not because scpd makes 30k more then deps....lets see 200 tires changed compared to 2000
10k tickets compared to 50k
scpd hwy was more productive by far...
btw my female family members were taught to change tires, so they can fend for themselves.
