Official reports have been spreading through the school district that the Shea (Superintendent), Lack (Assistant Superintendent), and Romanelli (Assistant Superintendent) tried to keep the young blood out by spreading rumors that they did not support the bus drivers at all and would eliminate their positions if they were elected. The bus drivers in this district are some of the hardest campaigners during the South Huntington Schools elections. Shea, Lack, and Romanelli, said that one of the candidates was best friends with the owners of Huntington coach and that the Huntington Coach owners paid for the lawn signs. I spoke with the candidates and they said these rumors were totally false. The new blood paid for the lawn signs with their own money and they have receipts to prove it. Also, neither of them would recognize the owners of Huntington Coach if they ran into them again. And they also are big supporters of the bus drivers in the district........ STORY DEVELOPING

How 'stained' is this district? The Director of Music,Arts and Adult Ed(go figure that)plays his Grand Finale at the end of June, taking a job with less work and more pay.The Director of Special Ed cannot stand the loonies who run the show and retires early. The Business Manager cashes her chips in and departs for another district because she was unable even to be home before 10pm most nights. Now the rumor is that the exiled HS Principal who was 're-assigned' has accepted another Principalship in a much more affluent district.
Sniff Sniff......something smells rotten here folks.

Albeit a problem, the question is why are all these administrators leaving? Is it because maybe they'd rather 'jump ship' before they end up in the crosshairs of certain board members and made to 'walk the plank'?
The district is going to end up chock full of $600 per diem SCOPE goats who are just here for the quick buck.

This is the year that Kaden and the old board get sent out!!!!! It is time for those of us who remember Geoff Touretz and what happened last spring to rise up! It is time to get those new candidates in order.....let the good times roll! Kaden goes down in 2005!!!!!!

The ousting of Kaden will be a difficult task to complete. There are going to be two seats up for election and with the impending resignation of Garetano it'll be three. We'd be lucky to maybe find two qualified candidates but a third I doubt.
The best hope is for Kaden to bow out of Presidency of Board and allow either Archer or one of the new members to step in.Time will tell.

Mr. Kaden and his wife have been maligned on this site. But Jim has a great deal of support in the community for his years as president of the school board. He has achieved accolades from many of his peers and from many in educational circles. As a school board member he has served the community he lives in with distinction and honor.

Dennis was a hard and dedicated worker for the board of education. He will be missed. He brought a sense of values to the job that will sorely be lacking when he's gone. Lets hope he can take that energy and integrity he has and put it to good use.

The gangs which you are referring to cost taxpayers much less than the corrupt teacher's union that has a stranglehold on the district.

Could someone tell us the actual story re Garetano and the "alarm"? The references to it have been popping up a lot of late and maybe there is some truth to share.

Dennis Garetano
01-11-2005, 12:12 PM
There is nothing to this story. My letter explained why I resigned. If you want a copy call the district office or me in my office.

We had a company win a bid on installing our alarm systems and cameras, out of five companies they were the lowest bidder by more than $10,000 . That company is owned by my Brothers Joe and Mike(WW Graduate 1967), I have no interest in their company which is based in Hauppauge.

Let's not try and imagine that Brennan or anyone else with, or formerly, of the schools are responsible for citizen anger. The Board has been running the district like it is there own little game. Each board member has their obsession and it usually impacts their children directly or their former career interests. Some boards are at eachother's throats, well not our's. They support their individual agendas. Want new roofs...gotcha. Want to attack the HS Guidance Dept. because you kid didn't get into their dream school? Go ahead. Want new wrestling mats? No problemo. Want to fire wonderful dedicated school leaders? Right on. Want to hire morally bankrupt supe's? You go Board. What a crew.

01-17-2005, 06:25 PM
Are you saying that Board members who spend hours and hours of their time are somehow better than the rest of the parents in this community. Do you actually they can actually be totally neutral on all issues.. That's not why we elect certain board memb ers. we elect them because of their strengths adn their interests. If we have a need for a board member who is involved in sports we vote for a sports person, or a building person, or a curriculum person. And how could you not expect them to come in with certain issues and a plan to take care of certain things. As far as the three you mentioned, I have not problem fixing the roofs that were leaking, or provinding wrestling mats that are used in gym class, wresling teams and cheerleaders, and certainly keeping an eye on the guidance department, or any other department for that matter, cannot hurt. If our board members are understanding each others' reasons for being on the board and working to solve those particular problems, than my hat is off to them.

OK Pattiwhack....we all know you've been gunning for MS for sometime now but the big question is why? That man busts his ass and cares about the kids more than you or any bd member ever will.Maybe you should focus on some of the six figure rotting stumps at the d.o?

ptamom/mompta...Pat.....Your reply couldn't be more self-serving, but I am not surprised that this is how you see things. The problem is that each of you never present a balance to anyone else's bad ideas. If a recently former board member wants to send his troubled daughter to a full-time cultural arts program...Sure let her go!..Of course no one had ever gone there fulltime from SH before. If the informal volunteer coach wants new wrestling mats..fine. Of course that was the year the HS put a thousand kids in study halls to keep costs down. And MR. Cranky wants to talk roofs...Well sure, lets all talk roofs, busses non-stop...How about talking about LEARNING! You? Let's support the arts (dance) programs at the exclusion of everything else and then let's blame the counselor for your kid's grades. You each push your own programs and do not look at the BIG PICTURE. How about the Superintendents? The last 4? Crook, Crook, Fool, Stooge....nicely done. Let's talk about who has left and should have been with us forever? You guys never learn. Your power quest has gone to your heads. Thanks? Yeah, for nothing.

You're so wrong. Boards spend 90% of their time overseeing a 100 million dollar operation. If they thought about education and learning it would be a full time job. Why not run and see how easy it is.

So what, isn't that how people know about things. Did you ever think that a school board member has people from the community request results....a school board member is a member of the community...why shouldn't they have certain concerns. your argument is rediculous. What are they doing for themselves?

If this board was so concerned about the taxpaying resident then why are they allowing GEMS to rent property at LESS than half per square foot any other tenant in any other building in the TOH would pay?Dennis....care to reply? You Pat?

Its not the GEMS rent, where to put the busses, what board members child got special treatment, or whether the last 4 sups were crooks, or even why we spend over 100 mil to teach our kids. To paraphrase a political slogan, Its the kids stupid! How about changing the SHSD logo from 21st century school district to KIDS FIRST? Nah....never happen.....

Kids r' Last

1- Salaries come first
Teachers
Administrators

2- Benefits come first
Teachers
Administrators

3- Support Staff
Although first to suffer in war between the above and public

4- Parents come first
Their needs have to be met as much as the kids

5- Political and Corporate Greed Comes First
Least talked about but most important
School Districts receive their money from the way land is assessed and taxed. Local governments long in collusion with real estate businesses assess property in favor of those who make money from that. Just take a look at some of your property taxes and you'll find that those who don't rent or speculate on their property pay more in taxes proportionately then those who do. This is great for speculators and landlords but bad for school districts which means bad for kids.
